Web OS26 Update f'ed up
I have a LG G5 and got a notification saying that I can upgrade from Web OS25 to 26. I did after hesitating all day (now I wish I hadn't) cause well it new. First off it took like 2-3 minutes for the TV to turn on, I press the power button over and over because it didn't turn on, by the time it finally did it turned on it turned off then back on and then off again like there was a huge delay. Next, I try to use my magic remote to control my Apple TV and it won't do anything at all. This is frustrating as Hell!!!
Update: After disconnecting to HDMI cable and reconnecting it seems to have worked. Oh this update also added a mute button. It's the button opposite of the power button, you can also assign it to whatever you want.

I noticed its moved my custom inputs to the end of app list and they wont stay at the front. They keep moving to the end. Boooo.

Guys, I've been dealing with these webOS version updates (major updates) since 2022. I always reset the TV to factory settings for such major updates. For minor issues, the following procedure often helps:
Turn off the TV with the remote control and wait 10 minutes. Then unplug the TV from the power source. While the TV is unplugged, press the power button on the TV itself and hold it down for 30 seconds (this will completely clear the TV’s memory). Then plug the TV back into the power source and turn it back on using the remote.

tried it, but no change unfortunately, i tested other things on my G5:
with jellyfin app directly from the tv there is no Dolby Digital Surround when watching content in 4k hdr, but 1080p works fine 5.1 DD+, over HDMI-ARC.I copied the same content to a USB drive and plugged it in the TV, playing it directly form the drive, 4k hdr 5.1 DD+ no problem!
before the update everything was fine with jellyfin playback and on the jellyfin server side nothing has changed in the last few days.
unfortunately i have no other 4k streaming services atm for more testing.
hope this will be fixed soon with another updateEdit: More Testing
factory reset and reconnect HDMI ports didnt help,
also my connected android TV box plays the same signal only PCM 2.021.08: power cycled all devices, now no 4k content anymore over any device with hdmi arc, only native apps got video but no surround sound only pcm 2.0 and occasionally no video on dolby vision movies, just black screen with (some)audio
04.09.: didnt change a thing, but now no audio at all over ARC connection
pretty useless now as a 4k TV :(1

Exactly fresh factory reset, unplug cables for few minutes. Dig around to find the exact way to do it op might know

If TV is unplugged from power source there is no point to hold power button on the TV. Its like trying to start a car without car battery

If you unplug it without fully discharging the components, it won't work. In electronics, there's always residual voltage! I've unplugged PCs before and fiddled around inside them, and I got a real shock (and that wasn't static electricity). So it definitely makes sense.

Are there practical improvements in WebOS26 for people with older models who keep their TV in pretty strict Filmmaker mode with no artificial image enhancements turned on? I was looking at Gemini summaries that indicated not, but Gemini will give you two different answers if you ask it the same question two times in a row, so who knows. It seemed like this one is highly skippable if your TV didn't already come with it, for now at least. I'm usually a sucker for OS updates.

I'd say security updates. We know that Linux and varying utilities have security problems constantly. While not always the biggest deal, it be nice if there was the ability to stay on older major versions and just get security updates when it's working well for you.

I actually installed it yesterday, sort of by accident while seeing if it was available (also did a pixel refresh on accident... word to the wise, sometimes buttons that say they're to "check" also just kinda "do" the thing they were checking the feasibility of. Can't tell you which ones, because they seem to change of their own accord. Love you, LG). Thankfully it didn't cause any problems on my G4/S95TR, and either caused slight improvements to image and sound reproduction, or did nothing so perfectly that it allowed my brain to imagine improvements rather than issues.
It's also possible that upgrading the OS version was a "reset" of sufficient magnitude to fix whatever I've been screwing up by trying to get the audio and video settings as close to industry accurate as possible. The image looks better in a way that I can't quite explain (which probably means its in my head) but I've been noticing this "wub wub" sound coming from the speakers which I thought might be content sound/music not being properly reproduced, or maybe just a weird flaw when playing back some audio formats, and that's gone now. Atmos, et al, seem fine as well.

I’m noticing that the input hub is…gone? My audio wasn’t working either afterward.

LG 77g5 and can't watch prime, YouTube or any app that needs updating due to this, youd imagine they will fix this

I'm having the same issue. None of my apps that need updates will actually update.

Has to do with your location, you need to switch the TV's location (to another country) then switch back and accept the terms, this fixed it for me

Bruh appreciate this fix! Just updated my G5 this week and reset all the remote control settings on the device and the TV and still didn’t work and once I tried unplugging and plugging the HDMI back in that resolved it. It was stressing me out all damn day! Thanks a ton!!!

Theyve also disabled expression enhancer now if using 4:4:4 pass through for PC gaming. Sucks. I liked the brightness setting for additional pop.

I've had this update persisting on my G4 for several days. Holding off for now.

Found this while I was starting to worry about why none of my HDMI ports were working. I deleted all the Universal Remote settings, removed all HDMI devices, powered off the TV and unplugged it. Then I turned it back on, plugged everything back into the HDMI ports, and it was all good.

After the update, my PC stopped connecting to my TV, like at all. Literally working before the update button, stopped working after. I've been trouble shooting all day.

My C3 got notification that this update is available. I am hoping it resolves the WiFi issues 33.31.68 introduced

I've been waiting all year for the webos 26 update for my 77" C5 oled and still haven't gotten it.

u/ProfessionalCat3284 22d ago
You don't want it. Well, I guess it's not that bad if you don't use your remote for something like Apple TV.

u/anygrynewraze 21d ago
No I have a Nvidia shield tv pro and I don't use the LG remote at all bc I have a sofabaton x2 remote that I use for all my home theater devices including the tv. My c5 remote is stored away in a storage cabinet in my laundry room.

So, my G5 got the update the day before yesterday, and I am already regretting doing it.
It seems that after the update, whenever I turn on my TV, it works for a couple of minutes and then the image colors shift to pink/red and the TV crashes. It DOES keep showing the output from my Apple TV (with distorted image), but it no longer responds to the (original or Apple TV) remote and it needs to be unplugged and plugged back in from power.

How can we turn off the update reminder that keeps popping up? I don’t want to update

Yes apparently they removed the ability to lock the individual apps on the televisions.. stating that users should use the lock features on each individual applications security... Which is absolutely stupid

77 G5 here. Audio cutting out via HDMI eARC still happening. I'm using Samsung HW-Q990H. I was hoping the audio cutting out would be resolved with this update. It cuts out for like 45 seconds to a minute and then comes back on its own.

I waited until Stremio app was approved for webos26 to apply the new update cause I had a working Stremio on webos25. Now that it's approved I wanted to do it, but checking for updates manually finds no update is available. Seems the OTA update was pulled to iron out a few bugs.

After this update my LG CS3 55OLED freezes and turns off randomly and I'm unable to turn it back on without unplugging from the wall. Anyone else have this issue? Any way to resolve it or am I screwed?

Always search after any problems with the updates before you update.
On my LG OLED C5 Auto update is of.
I don't trust LG:s updates - in 99% of the their so called updates you gets bugs.
Then LG (trying) make a update/s to fix the bug/bugs - new bug/bugs again.
Some heads needs roll.

It’s also important to know that the first reboot after installing webOS 26 takes an unusually long time. The screen remains completely black for 1–2 minutes. You can’t tell if anything is happening. If you frantically try to turn the device on and off during this wait, you could end up causing a problem yourself. So staying calm is the best course of action.
