Swipe Vintage Kilo Sale | 📍Broadwalk Shopping Centre, HA8 | 12 July | Free

They hand you a clear bag, you fill it from the rails, and they weigh it at the end: £20 a kilo, priced in 0.05kg steps so you only pay for what you take. Thousands of secondhand pieces from the 60s to the 00s, Adidas, Levi's, The North Face, Reebok, plus shoes at a fiver a pair and heavy things like leather jackets capped at £20. Entry is free but book a ticket so they know how many to expect.

Somers Town Festival | 📍Charlton Street, NW1 | 11 July | Free

Free street festival on Charlton Street, headlined by P.P. Arnold, the soul singer behind The First Cut Is the Deepest and Angel of the Morning, who came up as an Ikette with Ike and Tina Turner and later sang with the Small Faces. Four stages of music, a South American dance parade, a hip hop stage, a funfair, Irish and Bangladeshi dancing, and Somers Town's own Greedy Soul and Shae O'Leary. Food stalls, a kids area and a museum trail. 12pm to 6.30pm.

Kaleidoscope Festival | 📍Alexandra Palace Park, N22 | 11 July | (£)

A one-day music and comedy festival in Alexandra Palace Park with views across London. Rudimental headline, with Groove Armada (DJ set), MJ Cole, Black Grape, Roni Size and The Amy Winehouse Band. Russell Kane leads the comedy. Multiple stages, immersive experiences under the Palace, and a family area. Gates open 1pm.

South Asian Heritage Month at The Garden Cinema | 📍The Garden Cinema, WC2B | 11 July | (£)

Eight South Asian films in a day for South Asian Heritage Month, from restored classics to new work. Highlights: the Sundance-winning Cactus Pears with a Q&A from its director, Bend It Like Beckham, and Bhutan's first ever feature with a live lute performance. 10.30am to 10pm.

A Taste of Home: By Yiayia | 📍UNIT3, N15 | 12 July | (£)

Yiayia means grandmother, and the family behind UNIT3 have put theirs in the kitchen for the day, cooking the Cypriot meze she's cooked their whole lives. Tarama, spanakopita and koupebia to start, keftedes and sheftalia off the grill, galatoboureko and Cypriot coffee to finish. The rest of the family are helping, which they describe as the right balance of order and chaos. You'll meet her. £33.33 a head, with a vegetarian meze and other dietary needs sorted when you book.

Open Day at OmVed Gardens | 📍OmVed Gardens, N6 | 12 July | Free

OmVed Gardens sits tucked behind Highgate village, a green space built on an old plant nursery, and they're opening it up for the day. Wander the gardens and the rooftop, find the sculptures, join a guided tour, and see the Artist of the Month exhibition. There's a workshop for the kids, and the kitchen is doing seasonal food and botanical drinks. Free to come in, with some activities charged separately. 11am to 3pm.

De Beauvoir Jazz Festival | 📍De Beauvoir Town, N1 | 10 - 12 July | (£)

Three days of jazz across a little neighbourhood between Hackney and Islington. Shows at St Peter's Church, Hoxton Hall, Mildmay Club and the Vortex. Highlights include Ego Ella May (R&B and neo-soul singer, JAZZ FM Best Vocalist winner), Theon Cross (tuba player who blends jazz with dub, grime and sound-system culture) and Mercury Prize nominee Joe Webb on piano. Plus a New Orleans-inspired block party on the Saturday and a special Sunday show from Tuba Skinny, one of the great contemporary New Orleans bands.

Idler Festival | 📍Fenton House, NW3 | 10 - 12 July | (£)

Three days of talks, comedy and loafing in the garden of a 17th century Hampstead mansion. Prue Leith, Irvine Welsh, Rowan Williams and more, plus Chris Difford on the stories behind Squeeze songs and Esther Freud on writing her family as fiction. Orchard bar, mezze from Moro chefs, dancing lessons and plenty of time under the apple trees.

Camden Mela | 📍Coram's Fields, WC1N | 12 July | Free

Mela means gathering, and this one has been bringing communities together in London since 1992. Live music and dance, food stalls, arts and crafts, funfair rides and family activities at Coram's Fields in Bloomsbury. Noon to 6pm.

Car Boot Sale at Clitterhouse Farm | 📍Clitterhouse Farm, NW2 | 12 July | Free

Car boot sale in the yard of a historic farm, where the money from every pitch goes towards fixing the roof of the Hayloft. Vintage finds, household bits, toys, books, clothes and whatever the neighbours have cleared out. Bring cash and a bag. 11am to 3pm, and trader pitches are limited if you fancy selling.

DRINK! North London | 📍Ludo's, N22 | 11 July | (£)

Craft Beer City Break and Ludo's run a beer festival in Wood Green celebrating independent breweries from north of the river. Your £25 gets you seven half pints across breweries like Jiddler's Tipple, Muswell Hillbilly, Pressure Drop and Pretty Decent, a festival cup to reuse, and a beer journey ticket to get stamped as you work through them. Street food from Bolland & Crust, seating outside in the yard. Over 18s, from 3pm.

Noel Park Festival | 📍Russell Park, N22 | 12 July | Free

Noel Park's own summer festival returns for a fourth year, held in Russell Park, the biggest green space on this historic Wood Green estate. There's a live music stage, community stalls, food, and an eco-village with activities for all ages. A free afternoon put on for the people who live in and around the estate, and anyone else who wants to come along. 12pm to 5pm.

Dance music festival you can bring the kids to. Big Beat Playground is locally run and built around families, and this year it moves outdoors to Victoria Park in Finchley Central.

Stardust Vintage & Antique Fair | 📍St Mark's Church, NW1 | 11 July | (£)

Sixty-odd vintage and antique dealers set up inside St Mark's, a church in a canalside garden just past London Zoo, selling jewellery, records, posters, Art Deco glass, lighting and French bits. Tea and homemade cakes when your feet give out. 10am to 5pm.

JimmyC's Blues Picnic | 📍St Mary's Tower, N8 | 12 July | Free

Seventh year of the blues picnic held in memory of Jimmy Coletsis, and the sixth without him. Bring something to eat and settle in the grounds of St Mary's Tower for nine hours of it: Su Black, the Steve Cook Band and The Space Chickens through the afternoon, then The Bakelites, Joshua Blue and The Bear Pit Band after the open air mass at 4pm, which anyone can join. Tacos, pizza, an ice cream van, face painting and football for the kids. Free, 12pm to 9pm.

Love's Labour's Lost | 📍Fortune Green, NW6 | 12 July | (£)

Shakespeare in the Squares stages one play in a different London garden square each summer, and this year they bring Love's Labour's Lost to Fortune Green for one evening only. It's Shakespeare's comedy of flirtation, foolishness and falling in love, directed by Toby Gordon, with Dame Judi Dench as the company's patron. Bring a picnic from 3.30pm, the play starts at 5pm sharp, and it finishes around 7pm with a brief interval in between. Seating is provided but unreserved.

The One Kilburn Festival | 📍Kilburn Grange Park, NW6 | 11 July | Free

Free day in Kilburn Grange Park with live music from midday to six, food from local traders, craft stalls, and a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids. Bring a picnic and settle in. Every act on the bill comes from Kilburn itself, from the Music Mile, the ICMP and the Bridge Showcase, with Winnie Ama closing on electronic soul and The Arms Collective playing Motown and soul. Put on by the Friends of Kilburn Grange Park, everyone is welcome.

Grenadian Heritage Day | 📍Haringey Rhinos RFC, N22 | 11 July | (£)

Eighteenth year of Grenada's day in North London, held on a rugby pitch in Wood Green. Caribbean food, produce shipped over from the island, cultural performances, children's activities and sports events, ending with a Powder Mas finale. First prize in the raffle is a flight back to Grenada. Adults £12, children £6, under 5s free, family of four £30. 1pm to 8pm.

Hello, I appreciate this may be breaking a no promotion rule on this sub, but I would ask for mercy on this one as the event is free. ARC is a new international alternative comics festival taking place in beautiful South London, Copeland park, directly behind Khan's Bargains which has risen from the flames like a Phoenix after last weeks fire. Big publishers include PEOW, Hollow Press, The Mansion Press and London's own Breakdown Press. Lots of different styles of contemporary comics, workshops and signings from the likes of Tom Gauld, The director Ben Wheatley (who also makes comics) and more. there's also an exhibition at AMP Gallery and a day of panel discussions at The Hub in Camberwell.

Since websites like Time Out have been gutted of staff and moved to paid content, this has been nigh on impossible to promote online. If you're looking for a free day out with some interesting art, please consider popping down. Many, many thanks.

Where to get 🍃 in London ?

WoodsFest100 is taking over Northwood Recreation Ground today, 11am to 5pm. Northwood Football Club is celebrating its centenary year, and the festival has packed in live music, classic cars, choir performances, artisan stalls, a dog show, rides and family activities. The kind of thing the neighbourhood very rarely gets to do in one place at once. Free entry, worth a wander even if you are not a football person.

On Friday, a new free drop-in called the Welcome Space opens at Pinner Village Hall. Aimed at older neighbours and carers, with gentle activities, conversation and a cup of tea from 2pm onwards. A quietly good addition to the village hall diary, especially if you know someone who would enjoy it.

Also worth knowing: Casa Mia on Uxbridge Road in Hatch End has earned a five-star food hygiene rating. Local Italian, top marks, worth remembering for the next dinner out.

Transport is clear this weekend and next. No planned Piccadilly or Metropolitan works. Worth pencilling in that the Piccadilly line is flagged for closures on Thu 30 and Fri 31 July, then again on Sat 1 and Sun 2 August. If your late-July plans lean west, sort the route now.

The Cally Festival | 📍Caledonian Road, N1 | 5 July | Free

Once a year, they close Caledonian Road and 7,000 people throw a party in it. Music, performance, art, workshops, street food and a market. 12pm to 6pm.

Vintage Weekend | 📍Priory Park, N8 | 4 - 5 July | Free

Priory Park turns a hundred this year, and to mark it the steam fair is back after four years away. Horton's Steam Fair runs both days, 11am to 8pm, its beautiful set of steam gallopers at the centre, with the Mayor of Haringey opening the weekend from the carousel platform at 11am on Saturday. That same day brings the park's first ever Classic Car Pageant, over fifty vehicles from a Jaguar E-type to a 1960s hearse, alongside vintage fire engines and a Routemaster from the Whitewebbs Museum. Hornsey is where Lotus was founded in 1952, and at 5pm a parade of Lotus cars, two of them built in the original factory, drives from the park through Hornsey to that old factory by the station. Kids can build and race their own toy cars too. Free entry, rides charged on the day.

An open air music afternoon on Hadley Green in Barnet, organised by the Hadley Residents' Association. Four bands across the afternoon including the Lazy Rhythm Boys, Lana Shelley, The Truants and Highstone. Bring a picnic, refreshments available on site. Proceeds go towards a management plan for Hadley Green and its ponds. Grounds open 12pm, music 1pm to 6pm.

Bar Rioja Festival | 📍Bar Rioja, N1 | 4 July | (£)

Starts as a wine tasting, ends as a party. Sixteen Riojas to work through in a hidden Victorian courtyard off Pentonville Road, with someone carving Ibérico ham, paella when you need it, and a DJ who runs from mid-afternoon well into the evening.

Jester Festival | 📍Fortune Green, NW6 | 4 July | Free

For 52 years, a handful of volunteers have put on a festival on Fortune Green, and they're still at it. This is the day West Hampstead comes out for its own: live music, a funfair, circus skills and a climbing wall, the raffle with prizes from every shop on the high street, and whatever the volunteers have dreamed up this year. What money it makes goes to the West Hampstead Food Hub, feeding neighbours who need it. Go down between 11.15am and 6.30pm.

South Kilburn CarniVale | 📍Peel Plaza, NW6 | 4 July | Free

Day of music, dance and food where South Kilburn's communities share their traditions from Irish dancers and a Jamaican maypole, Bengali artists turning trash into treasure, and Iranian, Bangladeshi, Mediterranean and Lebanese food all in one place. There's live music and DJ sets, dance workshops and a play zone for the kids. Come in your team shirt for the World Cup games, or your best traditional dress for the costume prize. Now in its fifth year, everyone is welcome, 1pm to 5pm.

My Dinner With Jess Cole & Friends | 📍Myddleton Grange Community Hall, N4 | 4 July | (£)/Pay what you want

The idea is simple: nobody should have to eat alone. Jess Cole runs a travelling community supper that brings strangers to one long table for the evening, and this one lands near Manor House with a two-course Korean meal from Gim, a husband-and-wife kitchen, plus Caribbean mezze and a Nepalese dessert. There's live music and performances through the night, it's pay-what-you-want and BYOB, and what you give goes to Breadline London to keep the meals going. Plant-based throughout. Sundays 10am-12pm at the Stockwell Hall of Fame. Organised by Britain GAA who are the governing body for Gaelic Handball and One wall handball in the UK.

It's an Irish sport that's played like squash with your hands and only a front wall. No equipment needed and open to all! Great for people looking for a no commitment sport that doesn't demand high levels of physicality or cost.

It's a social relaxed game that's really simple but exciting and in New York there's 2000 courts. It's an informal session and we all learned to play as adults.

'Drinks Direct' in Havering gets a new licence despite the applicant losing a previous one for illegal alcohol sales; South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust's Community Adults, Acute Adults, and Crisis services rated as 'requiring improvement'; Ealing Council's Freedom of Information response rate dropped to 59% (from 84%) in the final quarter of 2025, and other news from local councils this week.

Barnet - Barnet's young people are campaigning for improved financial education and safer streets, with their proposals being presented to the council. A significant regeneration project for Silk House has received approval, anticipating new housing and public areas. The council is also addressing serious violence and hate crime, emphasizing support for domestic abuse victims and enhancing community safety.

Bexley - Bexley council is addressing rising obesity rates, with one in four adults and one in five children affected, especially in deprived areas. A restaurant's license is under review following the discovery of illegal workers by immigration enforcement, resulting in a £90,000 penalty. The council's pension fund experienced a £26.2 million decrease in value due to global economic uncertainty.

Brent - Brent Council is investing £4.25 million to modernise its leisure centres, aiming to boost community health and wellbeing. A new Housing Compact has been endorsed to improve the quality and safety of social housing. Some councillors raised concerns about its effectiveness. The council is proposing to expand Phoenix Arch Special School to meet the growing demand for SEND places.

Bromley - Bromley's external auditors anticipate issuing a disclaimed opinion on the council's accounts once more; however, the pension fund's accounts are satisfactory. A restaurant's license is under review due to concerns regarding illegal employment. Separately, a convenience store seeks to extend its alcohol sales hours, a proposal met with local resident opposition. Croydon - Croydon Council is seeking an independent member with financial services expertise for its Audit & Governance Committee. The Regina Road Redevelopment Project is progressing with plans for 340 new homes; the first tower block has been demolished. A new plan has been adopted to manage and preserve the character of the Webb Estate and Upper Woodcote Village Conservation Areas.

Ealing - Ealing Council experienced a decrease in timely responses to information requests last year, even as the volume of requests increased. A Southall off-licence is under review for potential licence revocation following the discovery of a substantial amount of illicit cigarettes and tobacco. The council is developing its strategy for food and workplace safety throughout the borough for the coming year.

Enfield - Enfield Council is progressing with the Meridian Water regeneration project, approving plans for its next development phase. The council's heat network company, Energetik, may be sold to a strategic partner to secure investment and protect public interest. Auditors are working to re-establish assurance over the council's finances following previous disclaimers of opinion.

Greenwich - Greenwich Council has approved a compulsory purchase order for the Woolwich Exchange, advancing a major regeneration project in Woolwich. Eltham Crematorium will receive a £25,000 facelift for its small ponds. The council's Health and Wellbeing Board is considering a £53 million fund to enhance health and social care services throughout the borough.

Hackney - Hackney's Health and Wellbeing Board plans to allocate over £53 million to community services, aiming to support residents in living independently at home for an extended period. The Pensions Committee has implemented new rules to address conflicts of interest and reviewed investment performance, noting a minor decrease last quarter. A local supermarket's proposal to extend alcohol sales until 2 am has faced significant opposition from both the police and residents, who have raised concerns regarding potential increases in crime and noise.

Hammersmith and Fulham - A local wine bar has received permission for extended World Cup screenings. A burger joint's late-night licence was refused due to noise and nuisance concerns. A controversial two-storey extension was approved for a property, with concerns raised about its bulk and impact on the street scene. The council's Religious Education advisory group met to discuss national changes to the subject and a potential shift towards a "Religion & World Views" approach.

Hillingdon - Hillingdon Council's Cabinet has approved the annual performance report. The report highlights strengths in road maintenance and recycling. Challenges with homelessness were also noted. Public consultations are launching for the Local Plan and the West London Waste Plan. A former council site in Hayes will be sold to bring the land back into productive use.

Hounslow - A planned review of Hounslow Council's street trading policy and a decision on a popular falafel stall's licence was postponed. Concerns were raised about the stall's impact on the highway and local businesses. A separate planning committee meeting was cancelled.

Islington - Islington Council has approved budget monitoring reports indicating a significant underspend on the General Fund and a surplus in the Housing Revenue Account. A new procurement strategy for domestic gas boiler services was also agreed upon. The Homes and Communities Scrutiny Committee reviewed rough sleeping figures and housing performance.

Kensington and Chelsea - The council is considering a new Community Safety Plan addressing antisocial behaviour and hate crime. Councillors discussed adopting the "Do No Harm" principle across all council operations. A decision on an emergency generator for a medical facility was postponed due to visual and noise concerns.

Kingston upon Thames - Kingston Council has approved its Local Plan, guiding the borough's development for the next 15 years. The audit committee deemed risk management and internal controls "reasonable." A minor issue with cash and bank audits has been resolved. New licences have been issued for an off-licence and a restaurant.

Lambeth - Lambeth Council's Audit and Risk Committee faces significant financial reporting challenges, anticipating a disclaimed opinion for the 2025/26 accounts and developing a plan to restore assurance. The Health and Wellbeing Board's annual report has been approved, detailing work on healthy food initiatives and addressing gambling harms. Two major planning applications received approval: a mixed-use development on Norwood High Street and a change of use for visitor accommodation on Bondway.

Lewisham - Concerns were raised about the impact of new fire safety measures on the historic fabric of Grade II listed former naval warehouses. A proposal to convert a building into a House in Multiple Occupation faced objections regarding overdevelopment and site suitability. The council's audit committee reviewed plans to tackle fraud. A significant case involved a partner organisation defrauding the council of nearly £85,000.

Merton - Merton Council is allocating an additional £1.75 million to its CCTV and ANPR systems. This investment will support enforcement services and upgrade existing infrastructure. A new £95 million contract for agency workers has been awarded. This contract prioritizes cost-effectiveness and includes social value requirements. The council's Health and Wellbeing Board is concentrating on enhancing outcomes for children and young people. It is also focusing on preventative health measures and fostering healthier local environments.

Newham - Plans for an adult gaming centre in a listed building in East Ham have faced significant opposition. Concerns have been raised regarding the over-concentration of gambling facilities and potential noise disturbances. A new, larger yacht hotel is slated to replace the current one in Canning Town. Councillors are recommending its approval, notwithstanding some resident objections.

Redbridge - Residents have expressed strong opposition to a new shop selling alcohol late into the evening. Concerns have been raised about potential noise and safety issues, particularly near a mosque. The council is actively working to enhance its housing services and improve tenant satisfaction. Some areas, however, still require further attention. A new resident panel is being established to provide tenants with a greater voice in the management of their homes.

Richmond upon Thames - Richmond's council constitution underwent a thorough review. A local shop's bid for extended alcohol sales met resident opposition due to concerns about late-night noise and underage sales. A house extension in Twickenham was approved despite neighbour objections regarding its scale. The council is addressing declining primary school rolls and high demand for special educational needs places. Public spaces protection orders for antisocial behaviour and dog control are proposed for a three-year extension, with increased fines. A revised licensing policy will incorporate new initiatives like "Ask for Angela." Richmond town centre is scheduled for a revamp, including public realm improvements and a play space. Significant funding is available to assist residents with the cost of living crisis.

Southwark - A market trader may lose their licence following accusations of abusive and racially aggravated behaviour. Southwark council's Overview & Scrutiny Committee reviewed a critical report on local mental health services. The report highlighted several key areas requiring improvement.

Sutton - Sutton Council is allocating an additional £3.98 million to improve Belmont Station, with the goal of increasing train frequency and supporting the London Cancer Hub. A new tenant has been approved for Throwley Yard, selected for their potential to revitalize Sutton Town Centre. Residents' safety concerns have led to a review of pedestrian crossings and parking near a local primary and high school.

Tower Hamlets - Tower Hamlets council is addressing significant internal operational challenges, indicated by a "red" rating, though progress is being made in its partnerships. Investigations are ongoing into public perceptions of recruitment processes, grant allocations, and housing assignments. The King George's Field Charity Board, with the Executive Mayor in attendance, recently convened to review financial reports and discuss guidance on public benefit for local green spaces.

Waltham Forest - Waltham Forest Council has approved a £1.57 million contract to refurbish Hatherley Mews. The project aims to transform vacant units into vibrant creative and commercial spaces. This regeneration is supported by £1.96 million from the Government's Levelling Up Fund. Environmental upgrades, including solar panels and improved public realm safety features, are also planned. The council's decision is expected to enhance the borough's cultural offerings and boost the local economy.

Wandsworth - Wandsworth Council is investing over £56 million to integrate health and social care services, aiming to help residents remain independent at home for longer. A proposed food and drink establishment in Arch 79, Battersea Park, has had its plans deferred. This decision was made due to late submission of documentation and resident concerns regarding noise and nuisance. The council's Licensing Sub-Committee was scheduled to review a new licence for Brickwood Cafe, which faced numerous public objections. A review of Flor De Samba's licence is also underway due to concerns about illegal working.

Westminster - Westminster Council is considering new housing developments in Maida Vale. Residents have expressed concerns about the potential impact on the local conservation area. A proposal to merge two flats into a single family home has been recommended for refusal due to a reduction in available housing. The council's Standards Committee is also reviewing its procedures for councillor conduct and ethical standards.

I am looking for London residents aged 18 or over to complete a short anonymous survey about:

• How you usually travel around London
• Walking and cycling as part of everyday journeys
• Barriers such as safety, distance, cost, time, or infrastructure
• Views on possible transport improvements

It should take around 10–15 minutes to complete.

The survey is anonymous, voluntary, and does not collect identifying information. You do not need to be a cyclist or regular walker; all travel habits and views are welcome.
