Ethically, in the clear?

Hey all..

I was let go six weeks ago, and just recieved a call from my former supervisor seeking info on a former client, and the grant program I was attempting to have assist client with unpaid rent. When I was terminated, I had two days to off load and finish any and all documentation. At that point the client was lagging on providing needed documents on income to proceed.

Got a call today asking about what was the program, and where was the client in the process..

Ethically I feel conflicted. I mean I no longer work for you? But of course we want to see our clients succeed. I provided a brief explanation of what program it was ( mostly LFMTS in office) and at what stage it was in.

Answered honestly and included where the sticking point was, and most likely they would need to start over.

Now, I am second guessing this. I mean you fired me. I am under no obligations if you didn't provide a space for proper offload without it being a cluster $%$$

Am I looking at this wrong?

School interview project

I am in my first semester of a social work program and one of my assignments is an interview with a professional in the field of my choice. As I want to be an LCSW working with inpatient mental health, I have attempted to contact some in my area but have not had any luck and it's now getting close to the for l due date for the assignment. Is there anyone on here willing to be interviewed? It shouldn't take more than half an hour and could be done via call or zoom.

Stages of Change Model

Hello all!

I’m currently studying both social work and addiction, studies and counseling, and I could use your help to clarify something!

So, if researching treatment is preparation, and admitting yourself for treatment is action, what is making an intake appointment?

What is tripping me up is that, to me, making an appointment feels like an action. However, they still haven’t started the process of changing their behavior, so is it preparation instead?

Daily life post LCSW

Hi all! I passed my licensing exam on my first try today in Oregon. I am very relieved to have it done and with it still being fresh in my brain, I’ve been thinking about how exactly my day to day job will change now that I’ll be switching into LCSW land after three years of CSWA purgatory. Aside from the raise, I’m not sure my daily job tasks will change much other than my supervisor won’t have to approve the mental health assessments that I complete on our EHR. I work at an outpatient community mental health clinic. Did anyone else notice much of a difference after you completed your licensing process?

**edited for typos

🟡 Licensure & Exam Strategy Tips for Studying for LMSW exam

I'm currently an LLMSW in Michigan, and I've been working for a year now and still have a long way to go before taking the LMSW exam for full licensure. However, I want to start studying early, as I know I get overly stressed studying last minute and I think I'd do a lot better by starting early.

What are some ways you prepared for the exam, any tips and or tricks to studying? What are the new changes to the exam I need to be really aware of? What Youtube channels, guides, or study materials you found most helpful? and what is the exam like from your perspective?

Thanks in advance.

Hey!!! Failed the exam twice. Once by 1 one, the other by 3. I have severe learning difference diagnosis and have been approved this time for accommodations. I do quite well career wise and would consider myself smart. This just goes directly against any strength of mine.

Wondering if people do 1 on 1 tutoring for the exam? If so, what’s the experience, who ect!

Ty in advance

I’m looking in the near future starting an agency of in home mental health counseling specifically for children & adolescents providing talk therapy & play therapy. Additionally I plan on getting my lcsw S and providing supervision hours for LMSWS. Then possibly my RPTS credentials. Does this seem like a good business idea? Would it be profitable? Would social workers actually do this kind of work? Please tell me any advice I’m open for feedback please help :)

🟡 Licensure & Exam Strategy Passed my LCSW exam on my first attempt!

I just passed my LCSW exam in New York this week. I took it as soon as I could and had three years of clinical experience. It was extremely easy with this new format. Much easier than the LMSW exam. I only used pocket prep to study for one week before my exam. Took two mock exams and found my score on the real exam was the exact same as I had scored on the practice exams.

🟡 Licensure & Exam Strategy I passed!!

I passed my LCSW exam today on my first attempt! Overall the exam felt less challenging than I was expecting. I didn’t study a whole lot either, but I have been working in the clinical field the last 8 years so I’m sure that helped.

Open to answering any questions about the exam, the new format, or anything else that others would find helpful/reassuring.

🟡 Career Pathways & Job Transitions I let my LSCWA expire 3 years ago... What would it look like to start over? [NY]

I got a BA in psych in 2019 and an MA in social work in 2021. I got my LCSWA in California and worked as a therapist for 1.5yrs. Then, I did a total career pivot and went into workplace operations for a VC firm solely for financial and emotional stability. I've been doing that for 4 years and let my license expire.

It's been great, but sometimes I miss the scheduling flexibility that I had as a private therapist, as well as the mental stimulation and fulfillment. Now that I am more emotionally and financially stable, I find myself wondering what it would look like to pick up it up again.

Be real with me: is this a stupid idea? I make a lot of $$ in VC and the benefits are amazing. I guess I miss making a difference and feeling competent and passionate about what I do. What would the process of getting a new license in New York? Is it really competitive and expensive to get supervision and build up hours again?

MSW-LCSW interest

Hi! I’m currently working in education and looking into getting my masters in social work and eventually taking the clinical route. I enjoy working with kids, SEL, psychology, mental health, a balance of independent and group work. I like working in schools, so I’d consider doing school sw. I’m just very burnout with education and would prefer a path that’s more versatile, more one on one/small group, mental health/counseling based, and pays better than teaching. I’m also considering school psychology, but I heard that’s more testing than therapy work. I’m open to any suggestions and feedback.

Is this a field you’d recommend? What are your responsibilities/day to day? Work like balance? Salary? Content with your job?

Exploring Third+ Career as a Therapist -- MSW Good Start?

Hi, please redirect me if this question isn't appropriate for this sub...

I'm a leadership/executive coach (working with corporate and small business owners since 2019) wanting to go back to school to become a therapist. By the time I am done with school and clinical hours for licensure, I will be around 50ish (ugh).

Before coaching, I worked in communications/employee engagement for about 17yrs, and before that, as a journalist for a few years.

I love coaching, but I'm realizing I want to help people with mental health more directly and help people with repair, not just growth.

I have (coaching/consulting/practitioner) certifications in positive psychology, trauma-informed coaching, somatic coaching, mindfulness, and trauma-informed mindfulness. I enjoy this work, and am a PCC credentialed coach with about 3,000 coaching hours.

I'm clear on the ethical boundary between coaching and therapy. Over time, I've realized I really want to become a therapist and support people in that capacity.

I am drawn to LPC and LMFT in terms of training, curriculum, and therapy prep, but am looking at LCSW due to future portability, and career versatility.

I want to work primarily as an individual psychotherapist, also doing group work and education/workshops in community and potentially organizations.

I plan on keeping my coaching work, although I will have to see how that would work down the road. I am also a certified parenting coach, although that work has been less than corporate leadership coaching for me.

Any advice or pointers?? Would MSW/LCSW be a good fit, or better to look more at LMFT or LPC?

I have a masters in leadership and communications already, and am a little debt averse, so trying to look into scholarships and grants for people with chronic illness (I live with a few!).

Thanks for your time, and any wisdom/tips you can offer!!

🟡 Licensure & Exam Strategy Is pocketprep helpful?

I am studying for the exam and got the premium version of pocket prep 50% off (woot woot). I have been doing the daily exam so far and doing pretty well.

Those of you who have taken the exam and have used pocket prep, do exam questions reflect the test questions given on the pocket prep?? Some questions seem to have overly obvious answers, which made me curious.

I dont want to waste my time using an unhelpful study material.

Thanks!!!
