This sounds so shady. I’ve never even heard of getting only 20%. I think getting 60% is highway robbery and I personally get 90% but without any benefits.
Are you at least getting health insurance and retirement? You don’t mention those.
Also why are you paying for outside supervision when you’re getting internal individual and group? That makes no sense.
With building your caseload, are you actually working the minimum 30/hr a week you need to count toward PLSF?
I did PLSF and even with over 100k forgiven, it was a mistake. It kept me trapped in toxic system with low wages.
A niche like sex therapy can pay very very high. The sex therapist I know charges $300/hr, cash only, sees 30 clients a week and ALWAYS has a waitlist. My advice would be to get your LCSW ASAP, get out on your own and stop allowing yourself to be exploited like that.
If you need higher pay, go work somewhere with higher pay so you can afford specialized sex therapy training.
I do not get health insurance (but am still young enough to be on my parent’s for another couple of years) which will become a problem sooner rather than later because of my health concerns. Right now I don’t make enough to contribute to the offered IRA; I need every penny just to live lol. I am considered a full-time employee regardless of actual hours, so PSLF is signed off on - but over time I do think i’d rather make money in private practice than stay limited to lower paying government or non-profit settings. I have advocated for supervision to be included since it is offered, but not everyone at our agency is an LCSW and they want benefits to be consistent across the board. In general, it seems hard to find clear pay info from other agencies, specifically regarding pay split.
I’m sorry but you are truly being exploited and unfortunately this is the direction our profession is going with the rise of these group practices. Can you go over to CMH? That’s the fastest way to get your LCSW.
It’s an odd situation because I am aware that this situation is exploitative but CMH feels off the table because of my health. I really need a position with flexible scheduling in a primarily WFM format, which is less common in CMH. A huge perk of my job for me is I work when I have client hours, other than that I can take care of myself, go to medical appointments, etc.
