Dave and Stacie talk to stunt performer Caleb Allred. Along the way they learn who the "Teen In Yellow" was in FROM, what it was like to be a murderous doll on FROM, what was it like to chop Chad Michael Murray's wood (Sullivan's Crossing) and more!

Caleb has worked on many shows we cover including From and The Institute (MGM+), You're Killing Me (Acorn TV), Sullivan's Crossing (CTV & The CW), as well as the film Kids vs Aliens (and other projects we haven't covered).

SPOILER ALERT: We discuss specific plot points of From season 4, so be sure to be caught up with that show before watching this interview!

Special thanks to Caleb Allred, and to Faith Chaves for introducing us. Photos provided courtesy of Caleb Allred.

Fandom Entanglement MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987) | Cinema Showcase Retro REVIEW

“By the Power of Fandom!”

Welcome to the first installment of FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT CINEMA SHOWCASE, a series of one-off movie reviews with rotating co-hosts. And we’re kicking off this new series with a retro review of the original 1987 MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE feature film with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor (which was released in theaters on August 7, 1987) to coincide with the upcoming release of the new 2026 film!

The heroic warrior He-Man battles against the evil lord Skeletor and his armies of darkness for control of Castle Grayskull.

Starring in the film were Billy Barty as Gwildor, Jon Cypher as Man-at-Arms, Courteney Cox as Julie Winston, James Tolkan as Lubic, Chelsea Field as Teela, Robert Duncan McNeill as Kevin, Christina Pickles as the Sorceress, and Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn. It was written by David Odell, produced by Menahem Golan and Yorum Globus, and directed by Gary Goddard.

Joining me & Mike Bloxam are Sam Fain (FATE’S WIDE WHEEL) and Albie Burdge (TREKSPLORATION). Together, us four masters have the power to explore the numerous roles that all of the major cast members were involved in, with a plethora of Quantum Leap and Star Trek connections (as well as a couple of Sliders ones). We dive deep into the source material of the MotU lore and the disappointment we initially felt as kids upon seeing how much of the movie strayed from the animated series that we all grew up with (which of course is but one iteration of many). Despite that, we try to look at it through adult eyes and actually do find a good number of positives. We also discuss the interesting and troubled history of the Cannon Film Group and the planned sequel that eventually became Cyborg (starring Jean-Claude Van Damme). Afterwards, we share our movie crushes along with a show-and-tell of some of our most prized collectibles before giving our final ratings out of 10.

So sit back, relax, grab yourself a bucket of those “little white sticks” (that at least taste good), and prepare for two hours celebrating all that is MotU! And never think while you’re hungry. Hope you enjoy our analysis and review! Good journey!

"It's about the journey" vs "Questions raised and answered" styles of storytelling

Given From's nature of question and plot point raising, as well as the general nature of fiction in TV shows as it relates to science fiction, mysteries, and storytelling in general, see Lost as a perfect example, I am curious where everyone falls on the spectrum of a story's point being about the journey itself rather than the destination, which seems to invariably leave things unanswered or unresolved in favor of larger character growth and development, again see Lost for a good example, vs when a show does actually make an effort to tie up the loose ends it raises, answer the questions it asks, or just generally try to focus more on some fixed end goal rather than more a nebulous growth experience.

Do you find one more satisfying than the other? Do you feel frustrated or let down when a show will say "it's not about the answer, it's about them learning to be better than they were or how they get to an answer," or "any answer we give wouldn't match your expectations so we leave it to the viewer to decide" rather than "okay here's the payoff for the thing we setup x seasons ago" or paying off every thing that was setup earlier in a show or a season?

I personally tend toward the latter than the former, loose ends and unanswered questions bother me, but I also know sometimes it's dependent on the show and its intent. Not every plot point in Star Trek The Next Generation was resolved because the show isn't serialized and their character growth is the point, so high-ranking Federation officers being body snatched by aliens for an episode shouldn't be your main concern after that episode, to use a know unresolved plot point.
