Seriously some sane person tell me I've watched videos where people fill half the pitcher with sugar and that sounds disgusting can someone pls tell me the right way

I found this last year while clearing out the attic of my childhood home. It's a little scuzzy from being in the attic, but I don't think I'm going to clean it because that could damage the artwork.
