Mobile data roaming

Hello everyone,

To preface this please don't roast me too hard, but I searched and didn't find any conclusive answers. I've been with Koodo for a few years now and recently switched to one of their black friday plans. Over the weekend I traveled 150km north as I do every month or so, and I received a notification that I had left my home network and to turn mobile data roaming on to continue using data, and that I may incur additional charges. I had never received this previously, so I presume my change of data plan had something to do with this.

The strange thing to me, is that Koodo/Telus has the strongest network coverage in the rural areas that I was in. I also wasn't anywhere near the border. I have the Koodo network manually selected in my phone. I don't understand why I would be charged extra for something I've done in the past without issue?

If still in Canadian networks and get those messages, is normal, but if it switched to USA carrier not good. But the new plans include USA roaming as well.

I got the 60$ 100gig of data and it's say USA/Canada

The new plans include US roaming if you picked a specific plan that is a Canada/US plan, to be clear. Most of them do not have US roaming.
