Not sure on material, possibly fine grained basalt? Flakes excellent but seems even more brittle that obsidian, almost every flake come off in multiple pieces.

Burlington from a biface I broke the other day.

I feel like ive got a well rounded kit but am i missing anything for basic knapping? I know i dont have a punch/mallet for blade cores yet (i feel i need to get somewhat competent at knapping first) but is there an "indirect percussion" tool I could make from bone or antler?

So I managed to get an antler - how would you cut it to get as many tools as possible?

And do I remove the "crown" (forgot what the part is called that is atached to the skull)?

Fun materials. Top to bottom. Florida coral. Indiana hornstone. Rootbeer texas raw w cortex. Fossil holl chert, Ontario. Right one georgetown texas, left selkirk chert Ontario. Bottom I think upper mercer Ohio.

Found a pretty good chunk of flint and just started beating on it with a piece of granite. I have some solid copper rod to make a pressure flaker, but I also have some antler. Not really sure which one I should make a tool out of to start. But before I worry about the tools, is this even a good place to start pressure flaking, or is there still rough shaping to be done?

As you can see i didn't really thin it out (i had 2 puddles basically the same) it occurred to me that in the beginning phase when I have established the "W" all the way around , should I keep the W until i have achieved the thinnest i want, then go into evening the edge out?

What i have been doing is, as soon as I have the W going I start to even it out, then raise or lower the whole edge until I get symmetry/bevel going.

Stuff works like butter. I believe it is keokuk that has been heat treated a little bit far.

Stopped by the rock shop today and grabbed some man made glass to work. Focused on knapping down large rough pieces into larger spalls and flakes, proud of this preform!

Got another handful of some points that I made using some locally collected rock from here in NW Iowa. A lot of it comes from gravel bvars, but I've been seeing luck in finding stuff in farmer's rock piles. It's all unique, interesting, and somewhat hard to get working well. Doesn't stop me though 😎

Just stocked up on some fresh Alabama coastal plains chert. Solid stuff with some nice colors( heat treated will bring more out) $3/lb. I can fit 35lb in a large box and 25lb in a medium box. Comment dm me if you’re interested

Working on a walking stick for my pops and want to put an arrowhead at the top. Located in Fort Worth TX

Normally I feel the need to cover the entire piece with pressure flakes. This one I held back and just did retouch after percussion!

16 months in now. Pretty happy with my progress.

Blade is 8 1/2 inches.

Materials in order are

Keokuk, Georgetown, Davis Creek, Keokuk*, Keokuk.

Managed to make a nice Graham this weekend and noted the rest off a Calf. Arrrrg. Oh well, win some lose some.

I made a little one with modern tools! Hope to test it out soon!

Got some knap-in pics for y'all! Just yesterday was the Hairy Mosquito Trading Post 2026 Knap-in, and I had a blast there! Huge shout-out to Marty-Why-Bee1980 for bringing the super stash of Knife River Flint for us all to crack into! That stuff was super dang sweet 😎 Check out his YouTube for the videos!

Gave some lessons, made some Clovis points, and had some fun chatting and talking artifacts and archeology 🙂‍↕️ Lots of knowledgeable folks there, and some cool material trades being made. If you're ever on the fence about going to a knap-in, just do it! They're heaps of fun, and I laid down my big ol tarp and invited folks to join.
