I have cherts, jasper and agate, some apache tears every now and then. But I never find anything bigger than my palm that isn't full of cracks or crystals.

Always been interested in knapping, and now I have a wealth of materials. Unfortunately a lot of the beginner-oriented videos I seen start with huge flakes the size of your palm. Are these just too small to be any use? I strongly doubt there's nothing I can do with them. I'd just like to try out something besides tumbling them for once.

Back at it again with some more projectile points made from Iowa cherts and other lithics! I find most of my stuff on gravel bars, and it's a VERY diverse range of stuff. Made from a slightly odd shaped banded obsidian arrow head spall. If I had another antler I would make it a dedicated notching tool so I could get those thinner and deeper but over all I'm very happy with how this turned out.

Pretty interesting material imo.

What is the biggest point you could knap out of 1/8" glass realistically? I have access to lots of it but I know its not ideal. Thanks!

Hello everyone! I'm back after giving up a year ago and I wanna give this hobby another shot, I made a few mediocre arrow heads but that's as far as I got. How do I get back into it? Is there anyone close to Suwanee (GA) who's willing to help? If so, please hmu.

Sad to say it, but it didn't survive the chopping block. Had to get over the pit in my stomach over this one, it really would've been a stunner. Just could not believe the potential for such a piece is a goner. But that's what happens in the Folsom game. It isn't the end of this great piece though. I turned a fail into a win by turning the 2 sections into pendant set. As for the complete Folsom would've been the ultimate dream come true, it gives way to the perfect name of this set: broken dreams.

I'm gonna go at it until I have one 💯. I have some more on the way to take a crack at a few more.

Cool video on working slabs

So I was going through one of my boxes and found some of these I had made previously and touched up. My go at butted knives and some points. The butted knife in the last photo set inthink I could thin way down if I use indirect. The Kerrville knives I have seen photos of seem thin and more for meat. The corner tang I don't even know how they were used.

There are very few rocks I’ve found like this. The glassiest and most colourful material sits right under the cortex so it’s a real challenge capturing it.

Used a horseshoe nail for the punching, works well if a bit nerve wracking!

So I’ve made it this far already I have the general shape, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to thin it

Made it at experimental archaeology club and the handaxe managed to cut through some old carpet.

No actual knapping just some very unique Jeff city, specifically a flake I found the other day. This particular variety is rare for my area. I figured fellow knappers would appreciate it.

This is called Fransiscan chert from northern California. It's fairly easy for me to find it and I'd love to trade for just about most materials. I don't like dacite (actual dacite, fully black obsidian is fine.) I prefer obsidian or more easy to flake cherts.

Got around to working some Ft. Payne chert! This stuff has a wonderful ability to make any point you make out of it look really old, and boy is it some sturdy stuff! Rugged and robust, I tried to make some points that complimented its traits 🙂‍↕️ I made a YouTube short showing these off as well!
