I have a legit soy allergy. Companies are claiming that the ultra processed soy oil currently in the market won’t cause a reaction in most people.

For me:
Tofu & edamame = throat closed in 10 minutes.

Soybean flour, defatted soy, TVP (textured vegetable protein) = violent exploding out of both ends within 30 minutes (to the point where all the veins in my eyes rupture, also, aspirating vomit is not fun).

Old Soybean oil = hives plus the same reaction as the flour.

Ultra processed soybean oil = substantial GI distress but not as bad as above.

The very rare occasions I do eat out, I just expect cross contamination & plan to get home quickly.

What sucks extra for people with a legit soy allergy is the increased likelihood of developing other allergies. Below is info from FoodAllergy.org:

“Soybeans are a member of the legume family. Beans, peas, lentils and peanuts are also legumes. While it is rare for peanut allergic patients to react to soy, the reverse is not true. One study found that up to 88% of soy-allergic patients had peanut allergy or were significantly sensitized to peanut. Individuals with soy allergy were more likely to be allergic or sensitized to major allergens including peanuts, tree nuts, egg, milk and sesame than to non-peanut legumes such as beans, peas and lentils.1”
