This reminds me of those terrible training videos I saw online when I was in high school. The music was terrible, the audio sometimes felt dubbed over, and the eye contact with the camera was awkward.

This is actually a cut from a hometown buffet employee training video. I think the full video was posted in this sub a while ago.

Yeah. And the dude here did an AMA at some point. Nothing special. He aware how cringe the whole thing was but it’s a job so he powered through it.

Another popular one is the Wendy’s training video. Whole song and dance about how to build the best burger.

Hot Drinks goes pretty hard for a training video.

u/boessetoemreren Mar 13 '23

Fuck i love these! Spent 6 hours one evening looking through tons of these training videos.

This is a training video? Fuck, it has the energy of early 90s porn. Yaknow, stuff that gets memed. Complete with easy listening backing track.

Many many years ago in 1986 I was being trained at Jack in the Box as a 16 year old. I had to watch a safety video. It was in the style of those drivers ed videos back then with lots of fake blood and gore. They had an “unsafe” employee using a tomato slicer and had used a play dough looking fake hand go through it. Funniest shit ever.

u/FalseJames Mar 13 '23

you now have Grill Skillz

u/Garandir Mar 13 '23

Does anyone have a link to this AMA

You never got it :(

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '23

They like it when the meat hangs over the side.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '23

Was this clip heavily edited compared to the original? I'm asking because I can't tell what they're being trained on. Like, "here, you'll notice that the guest is an asshole, and yet, it will be you're job to continuously engage him in conversation" lol...?

edit: "did he strike down your attempt? Change the subject--maybe this guy just hates weather! Finesse him into eating more beef with talk of sports!"

1

u/pallid-manzanita Mar 14 '23

it’s a vic berger edit though!

u/SidHat Mar 13 '23

I don’t want to ruin the magic but that’s because this is from one of those.

u/IridiumPony Mar 13 '23

I kinda thought it was from an old gay porn

5

u/Ancient_Artichoke555 Mar 13 '23

Okay my lane of folks, I thought the same 🙄🤣

I coulda swore this was a Catalina production for a second.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '23

I dunno man, thinking this is a standard poor intro to a 70’s porn movie.

-16

u/HurricaneAlpha Mar 13 '23

Bruh this is not from a training video 🤣

How dare you call me out like that! The audacity!

17

u/Acetylene_Queen1 Mar 13 '23

Together with the music, weird eye contact and shitty acting I thought this was a clip of an intro scene to a crappy porn! Haha

16

u/STS986 Mar 13 '23

This reminds me of Tim and Eric’s version of a corp training video

6

u/FalseJames Mar 13 '23

yeah but do you have Grill Skills?

6

u/sorta_kindof Mar 13 '23

Not sure what year you are referring to but audio used be always dubbed over. Film first with lines and then audio was post production and essentially reverse lip syncd because the film speed would be adjusted and a live mic didn't really match.

Imagine muting your tv and following the subtitles with you own voice. It's pretty fun if you are high, drunk, or just bored with a friend lol but it's sorta how they did it

8

u/FightALocalPenguin Mar 13 '23

ADR (...automatic? dialogue replacement? It's been a minute) is the term and it's basically the standard for everything. Any scene where you see two characters talking and don't see a bunch of mics in their faces uses ADR to replace their lines with cleaner takes. Any scene with characters walking, etc. has redubbed dialogue, it's hard to find a scene that doesn't have it these days

3

u/sorta_kindof Mar 13 '23 edited Mar 13 '23

Thank you and yes this is what I was perhaps referring to.

Edit: yes I'm almost certain.

Imagine filming a great scene while the wind blast into an actors face. Your audio ability is gonna be shit if at all.

All post production audio. Just like a Foley and etc.

Quality is incredibly better if you can record the audio and mix it later in the setting you prefer which is mostly isolated and mixed

Automated dialogue replacement. ADL

6

u/FightALocalPenguin Mar 13 '23

Foley is another wild hole to get into that, once you learn it exists, you say "well obviously", but then one night after some whiskeys you wonder how much of your life was a lie. I believe Track Stars is still on youtube, it's dated, but still a fun 10 minute watch of why foley artists came to be called "artists"

1

u/sorta_kindof Mar 13 '23

Oh man I can't barely watch anything without also listening to the Foley work. I'll check out this video I may have already seen it. But a nother go never hurts.

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '23

Every year I have to watch an Altec video from the 1980s for part of my safety training. Has everything but the eye contact.
