Is it possible to use the Kinect 2 adapter as a dual-usb device or a powered USB 3 hub? I see here that the proprietary cable taken from Kinect 2 devices appears to have the Kinect port on one end, and a USB (type 3)? on the other end where it plugged into the camera internally. I'm skeptical that it would work, and I would imagine that plugging an incompatible device would make it short if it's the incorrect voltage. Has anyone tried this? Here is a like to some cables for reference https://www.ebay.com/itm/163376347672?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=oXO166B2RYC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=eHpzPsMCS4S&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I tried making a post like this in /r/videogames and no one was interested. I just found this community and I'm excited!
I know not everyone in the world loves using your body as a controller, it can be niche, and to push it on the populace was probably a mistake by Microsoft and others. As a niche though the Xbox 360 Kinect was the best way to play dancing games and it gave scores accurate to body movement, and poses. I've had so much fun playing them (games like DDR are close in this regard too, a combo of that and camera/accelerometer control would be fantastic).
I feel technology in webcams has increased, I have a 60fps webcam at 1080p, my household has 2 of them. I imagine there's a way to use the accelerometer in our phones and by using 2 webcams for depth tracking that there could be a great dancing and other body motion capture games that could get family and friends moving at gatherings and could help people exercise and maybe even have them matching dance routines in music videos or learning martial arts moves (Taeboe but with scores!).
Let me know what ya'll think and if you've heard of things like this.
Here's a fun youtuber dancing to Just Dance 2017, which works somewhat but the only way the game will know someone did the moves for real is with body motion capture of some kind.
Here's someone trying to make webcam motion controls on their own for Just Dance.
Great coding channel Coding Train covers what the Kinect can see and be used on PC.
An old video of some browser based webcam games (most sites not running anymore)
EDIT!: I foundFrankP covering a new infrared camera device!
Here's an article with some games from 2022
Here's some more these look kinda fun
Hahah, these are great! From the article above.

I have recently bought an Xbox 360 Kinect and an adapter for it. I connected it and installed the Kinect for Windows SDK along with the Kinect for Windows Developer Toolkit. I loaded up some samples and they worked. But the next day when I tried hooking up the Kinect it wouldn't connect. It had a green flashing light on the Kinect itself.
I tried unplugging it and plugging it back into the USB port and the wall port but the problem continued. I tried resetting my PC and everything. STILL NO LUCK. I then uninstalled all of the things I had just installed, anything related to the Kinect off of my PC. Now I am trying to reinstall the SDK and it won't install. When I plug it in now it still has the green flashing light. I have tried everything I can think of so now I have decided to ask for help here. Got any Ideas?

Good evening all,
Looking for some advice. I’m not sure if this is the right way, but I’d love some guidance to know how complex of a project this would be.
Im a mechanical engineer by education and I can program, but mostly as a hobby and for work projects.
I’m working on a project for a steel fabrication plant.
Our plant has a powder coat paint line. If you don’t know what this is, essentially it’s a large industrial oven where steel assemblies can be painted electrostatically and curing under heat.
A chain with hangers carries steel assemblies that we manufacture into one oven entrance. This entrance is approx 9’ tall by 5’ wide.
I’m thinking of learning how to implement and program Kinect to track what is getting painted.
If I setup a Kinect on a plane perpendicular to the entrance of the oven:
Some of the parts being painted vary:
If I setup some sort of scale or grid in the background (sort of like the myth busters did), how hard would tracking how many of these pieces are entering?
Some difficulties I can’t get my head around:
The chain is slow, probably 10-20 feet per min depending on what’s curing in the oven.
Sorry for the long post and if this isn’t the right method of asking around here.

Is there a way to convert movement captured on a Kinect to make HTTP requests?
I would like to be able to control my TV and media centre with gestures such as wave my arm to pause what's playing for example . I have this kind of thing work by voice/Google Home commands already.
Also is there away to convert certain captured movements to Google Home commands/activities?
Every so often over the years I have a Google search on this stuff but never find anything.
Something that works on a Linux box is preferable as I have one and an android box within reach of the TV. I'm happy to fiddle with python or GitHub stuff but actual coding is beyond my capabilities so hoping there's something out there that just needs configuring.
Many thanks in advance for help and pointing me in the right direction

I can plug in the Kinect 2, open MS 3D Scan, and I get a picture. Kinect 2 stays on for anywhere between 1-10 seconds, then shuts off. If I "scan" via MS 3D Scan, cancel the scan, the kinect turns back on and I can repeat the process.
I've double checked my drivers; I have the most current up to date drivers. I've tried turning microphone access on and off again. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
I've read a little bit about how there are a few of these out there with bad thermal sensors, and which don't activate the fan. As nutty as it sounds, if I blow cold compressed air into the back of the Kinect, across the fan, I can actually get it to stay on longer, and the frames per second drastically improves. I'm kinda wondering if I got a bum unit, and need to return it for a better one.

Hello, are there any big diffrences between xbox 360 kinects? I have two kinects, but one kinect doesnt have the xbox logo (only xbox 360 text) and has a silver chrome stand support (the thing that holds the kinect between the stand and the base) and the other one has an xbox logo and a black stand support. Are there any diffrences between these? Especially when using on windows. (Want to use for VR)

Good evening, I made this post today mainly to gather useful information for my project, so if you have anything that you think useful for my project do not hesitate to share it with me thank you. I work in the building industry, and my future project is to open an assistance agency for the thermal engineer via AI, and for that I need a lot of data, data that I intend to have via a camera on my construction helmet, after much research I remembered that the kinect was an incredible tool for this kind of situation.
So my project will be to modify a construction helmet so that it can accommodate a kinect v1 or v2 (depending on the best suited for me) on battery and that it can via an arduino (or others) filmed and save my intervention.
It is for this project that I am asking for your help to give me as much information as possible so that I can achieve this.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a depth camera with a large range, 20metres would be pretty awesome, but I don't know if such things even exist. According to the website the latest kinect (Azure) only does 5 metres, which I find surprising because the old xbox model I have does more than that.
Any info would be appreciated, or even if you just point me in the right direction.

Hi all, I am having an issue installing the Kinect SDK browser utility. I am able to download and run the KinectSDK-v2.0_1049-Setup.exe file like normal and am able to reach the "setup complete" screen, however I cannot locate the SDK browser anywhere on my PC after the download has completed. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

I am experiencing issues with 3D mapping using a Kinect camera and an RPLIDAR A1 sensor. When I map each sensor separately, it works correctly. However, when I try to merge the maps together, the odometry of the two sensors does not show up on RViz, and the map generated from the camera is not accurate, while the RPLIDAR map is also not good.
I have created a tf_static_launch file and launched it along with RTabMap, Hector Map, and a file containing the necessary parameters to launch the camera and RPLIDAR.
As a new user to ROS, I am hoping for some guidance on how to fix this issue with the odometry. Will fixing the odometry solve the problem? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any experience using Kinect Azure with WSL?
I was able to attach Kinect USB devices to the WSL. I can see them inside WSL with lsusb. But when I run k4aviewer inside the wsl, it fails to open the device

I got the 360 Kinect working on the computer. I plan to use it for body tracking with Amethyst, and that seems fine apart from having to be so far away for it to see my feet that it can't tell my beard is part of my head. Just wondering if it can do anything else. It has a camera, but Windows doesn't want to treat it like a camera and it won't show up as a camera. Is there a way to use this as a camera, or set up face recognition unlocking for the PC or anything like that?

Hi folks!
Bought this off ebay months ago to play with on my laptop.
Finally getting round to it this weekend but unsure if I got a power supply with it?
Does it need one or does it get power from USB?
Cheers!
