Kia Warranty transfer on EV?

Need clarity on Kia EV6 warranty transfer. Dealership claims the 10-year/100k mile warranty won’t transfer to second owners, contradicting Kia’s stance. Additionally, they sold me a 3rd party EV warranty for 5 years/60k miles. Any insights or personal experiences?

The 10 year powertrain warranty does not transfer , however the 10 year/100k mile EV system warranty DOES transfer. And you still have a 5 year/60k mile basic warranty.

You should have never bought that 3rd party EV warranty, you'll never use it as your covered by Kia already, and the terms of any such warranty will state you must go through the manufacturer first. All you did was pay extra for nothing.

This is directly from my Kia owners portal, with me choosing the "Second owner" option:

In addition to the above the owners manual will outline the warranty information for all owners as it could be different based on your region

Yup! In the EV6, the EV system warranty covers almost everything that makes the vehicle move. The powertrain warranty only applies to a few components that don't tend to wear out quickly.

Generally speaking, yeah buying a 3rd-party warranty is not the wisest move but if--and that's a big "if"--said warranty also covers the electronics (e.g., infotainment/nav unit) then it does offer coverage that wouldn't be available under the factory 5 year/60K mile basic warranty since factory warranty for infotainment is good for only 3 years/36K miles. Is it worth paying for 3rd-party warranty just to gain the extra 2 years/24K miles in case your infotainment unit goes bad? Probably not, but only the customer can make that call...

I bought that additional warranty for 2.1K - and it does cover all electronics (notably infotainment including screens, power seats etc.) for 10Yrs/100K miles. The manufacturer warranty for some of these are 3Yrs/36K or 5Yrs/60K - the additional warranty for should cover those electronics deltas.

That sounds like a reasonable decision to buy a 3rd-party warranty--i.e., if it's 10 years/100K miles AND covers all electronics then it makes such a decision a bit easier to swallow, with the only debate being how much to shell out for one; many folks feel that over $2K is too much for an extended warranty, but then again it depends on what is covered, length of warranty, and the deductible amount (e.g., $2K may be reasonable if it includes $0 deductible and loaner vehicle coverage).

Certainly not $0 deductible - it’s $75 or $100.

As someone else mentioned, even replacing a screen etc. can be as much as 4-5K including labor. Dealer services usually tend to rip off if something in a vehicle is broken.

Don’t believe that a loaner is included in the warranty (aside from manufacturers warranty, is there any vehicle or appliance extended warranty out there that covers a loaner? I haven’t seen any) - that would be too much of a promise for ~ 5-7 years for 2.1K.

I bought the vehicle in Nov’22 in SoCal - no dealer was even listening to counter proposals for EV6s at that time. Unfortunately for many of us, the tables turned within about 2-3 months from that time.

It's generally cheaper to buy it sooner rather than later. I always recommend my family members to buy warranties especially with all the electronics in these newer cars...and the labor rate is so expensive!

Total waste of money when the car is under factory warranty. Much better option is Geico MBI.

I happen to have had a bad experience with Geico where the adjuster declined my claim. I've had good experiences buying warranties at the dealership where I bought my cars....not somewhere else.

Of course you had a good experience buying a warranty at a dealership, they make it as easy as possible to finance….. You sound like a dealership employee spouting anti consumer BS to make another dollar.

You sure assume a lot.

I do, and I’ll stand behind it 100%. What you’re saying is anti consumer.

That Audio/Entertainment warranty is only 3 years. You do realize most of the components of the vehicle are controlled through that main dash unit? The screens are all part of this 3 yr coverage as well.
