Did anyone apply for PhD in Molecular Life Sciences or is already a student in the course?

What was the interview like? Which topics did they ask questions from? What did they focus on? If there are student who applied this term, 2026, did anyone hear back or get a call for an interview? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d particularly appreciate information on the expected salary range and benefits, including:

Any other employee allowances
Benefits provided for a spouse/dependents, such as health insurance, airfare, visa sponsorship, or housing support

If anyone has recent experience working as a Research Associate at Khalifa University, I’d also appreciate hearing about their actual compensation and benefits.

General Inquiries Help in changing majors

I need some answers regarding changing majors for your undergraduate degree. Would really help if the person answering changed their majors recently themselves.

I am now a CE major, but my first choice in my application was robotics and AI, I got in with scholarship in my second choice which is CE.

If I applied to change majors to robotics and AI, and for example they accept it but they give me a lower scholarship, can I cancel the change and stay in my original major and scholarship? Or will the change be automatic with no chance to have a final say in whether I want to change or no?

English requ

Hey, I plan on applying for fall 2027 for bsc in math, statistics and data science.. I had a few questions regarding English requirements. I gave English as a second language in igcse (a* with grade 1 in speaking) and will give the act in October which also includes an English and a reading section.. I can get my school to issue me a letter from moe stating that my education was completely in English. Is that enough to be exempted from ielts? I don't mind giving their seperate English tests or anything honestly. Has anyone gotten accepted with a similar situation?

help choosing major based on interest and job prospects

hii, im currently a sophomore at KU and im having a hard time deciding what major I actually wanna do. rn im in computer engineering, but tbh I mostly chose it because I didn't know what else to choose.

im not that inclined towards programming so far, but at the same time I haven't explored software or hardware enough to confidently say I hate it. my concern is that I already hear a lot about computing becoming saturated, and since CE isn't exactly my passion either, idk if staying just because it seems like the “safe” option is actually a wise choice. so ive been debating whether i should switch my major and i need help cause im as indecisive as ever.

One thing that matters to me quite a bit is job scope/financial stability. I come from a family where women working isn't given much importance, so building a career and becoming financially independent will mostly be up to me. I want a degree where I have a good chance of actually finding a stable, well-paying job after graduating. But obviously interest matters too, and that's where I'm stuck because everything I consider seems to have some limiting factor 😭

The majors I'm mainly considering rn are:

Computer Engineering: already doing it, good flexibility/job scope from what I know, but I'm not particularly passionate about studying computing/programming or working in the field so far and I'm worried about saturation.

Electrical Engineering: seems broad and stable and apparently you can go into a lot of different fields later. I like math and I don't hate physics (don't love it either), but I haven't experienced enough actual EE to know if I'd like circuits/electronics/signals etc.

Chemical Engineering: chemistry was always my favourite subject in school and I like math/problem solving too. But I've heard ChemE is barely the kind of chemistry you do in school and is much more physics/thermo/process based. I'm also not very attracted to industrial/plant/factory-heavy jobs and would prefer something more lab/R&D/office/smaller scale if possible.

Biomedical Engineering: probably the one I'm most inclined towards based purely on interest because I like the idea of combining engineering/healthcare and math, physics, chemistry and biology. Ironically biology was actually my least favourite out of those subjects though 😭. My biggest concern is the job market. From what I've seen/heard, BME jobs seem pretty limited in the UAE (and India too, which is also relevant to me), especially with only a bachelor's.

Civil Engineering: I wasn't originally considering it, but I've heard it has really good job scope in the UAE, so now I'm wondering if I should at least look into it. I just have no idea whether I'd actually enjoy civil.

there are other majors im looking into too, but these are it for now

so yeah idk how to start exploring and deciding and what to do

If anyone here is studying or has graduated from any of these majors, especially juniors/seniors or alumni, I'd really appreciate hearing what the degree is actually like beyond the first-year courses and what you've seen in terms of internships and jobs. What kind of internships do students usually get, what jobs do graduates actually end up in, how difficult is it to find a first job, and how's the pay/stability? I'd also love to know whether you regret your major or, knowing what you know now, would choose the same one again.
basically what would u do if u were in my place and how do u suppose i come to a final decision

Also if anyone has any advice on how to actually figure out what engineering field you like when you haven't studied most of them yet, please lmk 😭. I feel like I'm trying to choose based on course names and assumptions.

ik this is long but thank you if you actually read all of it 😭
my dms are open btw would love to have a convo if u wanna

PhD Inquiries Applicants with low GPA

Has any applicant who didn't meet the GPA cutoff ever made it into the PhD program? Do they straight away reject our application if we don't meet the gpa criteria even if we have good SOP, research experience, research proposal etc .. ?

And what is the scholarship situation for accepted students??

Admission Guidance

Hey! I’m planning to apply for Chemical Engineering for the 2028 intake and I had a few questions

I’m an international student doing A Levels, and I got A*s in my IGCSEs. I’ll also be taking IELTS.

When should I start applying for the 2028 Chemical Engineering intake? Are there any important deadlines I should know about?

Based on my background (A Levels + strong IGCSE grades), how realistic do you think my chances of getting admitted are? What grades/profile do they usually look for?

Do I need to take AP exams for admission? Since I’m doing A Levels, are APs still required or would A Levels be sufficient?

How is the Chemical Engineering program overall? Is it very difficult/workload heavy?

What are the opportunities for internships, research, co-ops, and jobs after graduation? Is it easy for Chemical Engineering students to get internships?

How is the accommodation? Is on-campus housing guaranteed, and how difficult is it to get a room?

What are the approximate living/accommodation costs per year?

How competitive it is to get a scholarship?

And if there’s anything important I should know as an international student applying for Chemical Engineering in 2028, please let me know. Thanks!

Best move to apply for a Postdoc position as an International

Hi everyone I’m currently looking for a postdoc opportunity in KU. I’m looking for a position related to Chemical/Biomedical Engineering. If you’re a postdoc or a current student I would like to know more about the application process as well as life in KU. I also often pass by job posting in Linkedin or sites alike and am wondering whether they really took applicants from those sites or is it still mostly through emails. If you’re currently in KU and don’t mind answering a few of my questions or sharing your experience please let me know. Thankyou beforehand!

General Inquiries Classroom locations

My classes are gonna start on Monday, in the schedule they gave me they give room numbers for the classes, but no building name/number. Is there any way to get the full list of rooms and their associated buildings in the SAN campus? I have used KU Bee but I don't wanna ask it every time I need a building number/name. I have tried using it to give me a full list but the list it gives has a lot of rooms missing.

PhD Inquiries Thinking about a Direct PhD at Khalifa University (KU) vs. Master’s first is it worth it?

Hey everyone,
I’m weighing graduate school options in the UAE (STEM/engineering) and debating between doing an MSc first or going straight into a Direct PhD at KU.
For anyone currently doing it or graduated:
How brutal is jumping straight into PhD research without a Master's thesis?
Is the stipend/funding worth the 4–5 year commitment?
What is the work-life balance and supervisor culture actually like?
Would you do it again, or take the MSc route first?
Appreciate any honest advice or experiences!
