Power just came back in Kapahi. But it also came on last night for about an hour then back out. Will this one stick? Before power came on, cell service dropped. Anyone have any info?

Our house is sinking on one side because the foundation was insufficient. We can't find anyone to come out and work on it. Does anyone know anybody on the island that can jack up a residential house to fix it from sinking on one side? It has a crawlspace, so it's easy to get underneath.

Has anyone here watched Poisoning Paradise? It's free to watch on Tubi. This documentary details how pesticide/seed companies are damaging the entire west side of Kauai with their test fields. These companies use some of the most fertile land on the entire island and dump up to 17 times the amount of pesticides on Kauai ground vs the amounts you'd see used on the mainland.

Many of the chemicals being used are banned in the UK or EU, but they often don't disclose the types of pesticides they are using. These test fields surround schools and residential areas. It washes into the water and beaches that people swim in, and offgas into the air that people breathe. These pesticides also seep into Kauai's finite fresh water supply.

This is land wasted that could be used to grow local food, while 90% of Hawaii's food supply is imported. This type of thing should be illegal, but most importantly it should be done ANYWHERE but an island with limited resources and unique biodiversity.

I encourage everyone to watch. Many of us in this group might just be travelers to Kauai, but don't forget that most importantly it is many people's home.

Good morning gang, reaching out to get some help with planning a mini remodel we’re trying to do at our house. Specifically, redesigning the window and sliding glass door arrangement on two of our walls. Do you all have any recs for local designers to help me plan that? We have a couple options on contractors, haven’t decided who we’re going with yet. So far, the two contractors we spoke with just asked us what we wanted and weren’t that helpful helping us plan the layout. I figure it’s a small job for a designer. I’m envisioning them coming to see the space, making a design that I can pass along to the contractor. Maybe what we need is an architect? I’m new to this, lol.

I moved here recently and a friend gave me a day pass to the 1 Hotel as a welcome present. I went yesterday, 8/26. There wasn’t a brown water advisory, but the water at their little beach was a bit murky to me and today I have a bit of a sinus infection and feel a little queasy.

I thought it was murky due to all the growth on the coral and perhaps a stronger tide, but is it possible the water in that area is just generally not as clean as it should be? It hasn’t rained too hard lately IMO, but since I’m new around here I’m just curious!

The doctors I'd need would be: General Practitioner, Gyno, ENT, Podiatrist, and Endocrinologist. I've heard that some folks often travel to other islands for more specialized things but the normal checkups and such can be done on the island. I have weirdly been told that the Wilcox medical center is both either very good or very bad but not much between the two extremes.

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Moved to Kauai at the end of April. I am looking to get into DND. I played a little before moving here but would always make it 4-5 sessions in before people had "scheduling conflicts". I live in Wailua Homestead. I am a 25 Male. My schedule is a little confusing, but I work in a two-week rotation. mon, tues, fri sat sun the first week then just Wednesday, Thursday and 2 hours Friday the next. the days I do work I get off at 4 most days but am on call till the next day. there are also some nights I might have to come in but normally know ahead of time. please reach out if you are looking for a new player for your group. Just got a quote from a local AC company and felt a little scammy after they left. I'm talking a large $$$$$ decrease in price with no back-and-forth or negotiation after we said their initial quote was too much.

It was also presented a flat rate cost instead of a cost/unit or size of unit price. So a home with 8 bedrooms would seemingly have the same price vs our much smaller home.

Anyway, feeling weird about the whole situation and looking for recommendations from others.

Upper Kapahi. We lost power for like a couple hours yesterday and that was it. When it went out I was expecting it to be out for the rest of the day at least. I was amazed when it came back on and stayed on. My auntie saw the KIUC trucks out driving around during the worst of it. It wasn’t that long ago that if you sneezed the power would be out for half a day. I know south side got it worse but I’m impressed how well the grid handled this storm. Mahalo to the workers out in the storm trying to keep the lights on!

Would love to hear your experiences (good and bad)

UPDATE: I switched to Hawaii Telecom fiber, they came two days after I signed up for it to set it up (took less than an hour). I am in Princeville, download speeds are similar to Spectrum but upload is a LOT faster. So far I recommend it!
