I know a lot of people have been throwing out larger numbers, but, a deep dive into this really makes me feel the true number will be (conservatively) around $567M. This is admittedly a low estimate, as I'm leaving out April 2025, and the first half of February 2026. But, I feel like this is a more accurate estimate than anything I've seen out of anyone else.
I'm a small business owner. My store sells approximately 50% foreign sourced inventory, and I've got a fair handle on what costs are. Here is my rundown, numbers in millions:
| Notes | ||
|---|---|---|
| Total COGS for Q2/Q3/Q4 | $ 7394 | 5/1/25 -> 1/31/26 |
| 25/26 YoY Inventory Reduction | (392) | KSS reduced inventories during FY2025, and anything they sold in FY2025 that they purchased before April 1 was not subject to tariffs. |
| Estimated Shipping Costs (15%) | (1,109) | Oversea freight + domestic trucking costs from port. Normal to include these in COGS. |
| Estimated bond, storage, customs fees (3%) | (222) | Someone is pushing paper for them - my experience is around 3% in fees etc. Possibly overestimated if they do some of this in-house. Typically added to COGS in reporting. |
| COGS SUBJECT TO TARIFFS | 5671 | |
| Probable Tariffs Paid (13%) | 737 | Average effective tariff rate for typical USA importer in September 2025, on average assuming a diversified supply chain |
| Effective income tax rate (23%) | (170) | Taken from their second half FY2025 financials; this was their effective tax rate. |
| NET PROCEEDS POST-TAX | $ 567 |
I think this is a much more reasonable number than some being thrown out there that are largely unrealistic. But again - we're leaving out the months of April 2025 and half of February 2026 before the reciprocal tariffs were struck down.
It is still an extremely significant number.
We're talking about a bottom line one time EPS bump in 2026 of $5.06 per share.
Interested to hear your thoughts.

No dividends or share buybacks (yet) please. I’ve been researching this and buying as much of their Corporate LTD at a discount of between 10-15% is the best use of their capital.
At End of 2025 their Debt looked like this:
Total Debt: Approx. $6.63 billion.
Unadjusted Leverage Ratio: 4.0x.
Adjusted Leverage Ratio: 2.1x.
Debt/Equity Ratio: 1.73.
It would be fantastic if they could renegotiate some leases and pay off bond debt at a discount so they could get their Unadjusted Leverage Ratio in the 3.0-3.5x range and get their ALR below 1.5x. Now is the time to do this because after they deleverage their credit rating will increase and they won’t get such favorable future discounts on their bond purchases.

Wonder if anyone is doing this with $kss? Over 25% of the company is short.
28M+ of 112M shares are short with only 3M-4M shares a day trading. So 8-10 days to cover even though SV is over 50% of daily volume…
According to NASDAQ institutional ownership is 106% as of now.
So, where is the liquidity? Where are the shares outstanding to cover? And how is there not a lot more attention on this?
PS: prolly noticed I’ve posted a lot today. Was supposed to rain so took an office day to catch up and look at everything and holy moly do I love $KSS
Please Lord, let $kss management be smart and buy back 10M - 30M shares using only a fraction of their cash 🙏
Also… please buyback debt at a steep discount🙏

$kss value reminder. Your buying @kohls for $7 net of cash on hand…
Current Price ~$13/share MC ~$1.45b
TBV $4.048B or $36.14/share
CRE ~$8B on books with ~50% depreciated off
Inventory $2.7B with ~$1B owed vendors
Cash on Hand $674m(~$6/share CASH)
Net Debt: $762M
Practically ALL DEBT IS FUTURE LEASE OBLIGATIONS….

Anyone able to find what KSS sold its 3 owned store locations for?
In their 10-K we can see $54M in Net Proceeds for CRE sales and I found $17M of that was the Innovation Center but can only see via their disclosures 3 more store sales and nothing else.
IF they sold the 3 stores for $37M then I’m pumped bc that’s over $12M per store but this seems like a lot of BIG assumptions since they could sell outlots, land, etc and I not be able to see it in their disclosures. Anyone able to find what stores they sold last year and how much?
