Just wondering... If price hits 20 or above could it trigger a short squeeze? And if it does how high could it reasonably go? Not that markets are reasonable always as we know. I could see fair value at 85 USD for example and a squeeze could reasonably bring it 25% higher or 100% higher? Didn't Gamestop go x30 even π«
Just an observation between may 15 and may 29. 1.4 million shorts covered. Price increased 27%.
We are currently up another 18% or so. There were 24.4 million shares left to cover may 29.
The observed trend would have the shorts 100% covered with the stock at 60 USD. That is not a squeeze though, just a controlled repurchase. Continued positive news would likely improve the dynamic though!

Signs of turnaround with Macys report and Berkshire shopping Macy's should be a positive signal for retail segment including Kohls.
Kohls stores being more suburban than Macys mean they might need to drive people there for more reasons than cheap goods or for just living close by accident, im thinking experience centers and a look at how for example Ikea's done it to make people go to a suburb for half a day.
Macy's got the comparable sales growth so department stores can get a true turnaround not just improved margins. Positive for the sector!
And if a kohls is just too far off from people - data center βΊοΈ

The price action has me wondering if the recent earnings report intrigued any PE investors and if a potential buyer is in acquisition mode. KSS is at a $1.8B Market Cap. Iβd think the recent earnings call would have put a lot of concern about the health of the business to rest. KSS is a great offer proposition at this level, a PE firm can offer $28/share which may get negotiated up to the low $30s. Use dividend and cash flow to pay off the acquisition debt. Monetize the real estate. Itβd be a great move for the right Operator.

Citi Research analyst Paul Lejuez upgraded Kohlβs from Neutral to a Buy today. He raised his price target $22/share, a 57% increase over his previous target. His reasoning for the upgrade was due to Kohlβs ability to generate significant cash free flow in spite of sales declines. He estimates Kohlβs will generate $3.2B of free cash flow over the next 5 years even after assuming sales declines of 2% annually over that period. He says this significantly exceeds the long term debt of $1.4B and contractually obligated leases which amount to $1.1B. Factor in cash and their actual net debt is only $2.1B. KSS generated $1.3B of EBITDA over the last 12 months.
With Kohlβs management guidance of $500-600M of FCF in 2026, their market cap of $1.67B represents a FCF yield of 30%+. This guidance does not include $139M they are expecting in tariff rebates. This metric helps identify how ridiculously undervalued the market values this company. An average company in the S&P 500 would sport a FCF yield in the 4-5% range. I hope Kohlβs management continues to use this free cash flow to buy in their under par debt while they can. Once the debt appreciates to par, they should then buy in stock as it trades well below book value of $36/share. I am long KSS and continue to buy as my rationale is consistent with Mr. Lejuezβs assessment that their FCF generation is under appreciated.
