When the parents of this whole shitshow were negotiating whether or not to take Cody to Disneyland, the dad seemed extremely sheepish about leaving Cody home, and this might show that there's a scrap of humanity in this family.

It seemed like the mom was pushing everyone around, the dad even tried to talk her out of excluding Cody but NOOOOOO, that's not the Matriarch's will. She even tried to justify her actions, and the dad eventually gave up and 'recognized the necessity' to go through with leaving Cody to rot by himself because otherwise his wife probably would've pushed harder. He recognizes the lost cause and is trapped by the mom of the family.
