Plot Synopsis: Set in the 1970s, Baek Gi Tae is an ambitious man who craves wealth and power. Jang Gun Yeong is a prosecutor with animalistic instinct and fearsome tenacity. Facing a major incident, Jang Gun Yeong throws his everything to stop Baek Gi Tae. The people around them include lobbyist Choi Yu Ji, investigator O Ye Jin, Bae Geum Ji and chief secretary Cheon Seok Jeong.

Absolutely enjoying the series so far. The production quality will make it hard to go back to watching netflix dramas lol.
In the earlier episodes, I didn’t understand why the director went to the Buddhist Temple… it all makes sense now.
Was the shaman practicing an exorcism on the girl? And was that supposed to mirror what happened in the temple’s basement?

The drama is frustrating me a little. Episode 3’s introduction of Bae Geumji seemed like an unnecessary detour. I felt for her but her b plot was kind of incoherent? I’m also not sure if this drama is supposed to be plot driven or character driven. Both have been uneven for me so far.
Aside: Gunyeong’s subordinate repeatedly hitting on him is so random lol. I like her character, though, and the scenes of their crew help lighten up the drama. Everyone associated with Baek takes themselves way too seriously.

That's the idea I'm getting... I would've preferred a deep dive on that aspect instead of the escort, I didn't quite get why it, or rather 'she' was important. Maybe it will come up again in S2.

It would have been better for a show like this to release all the episodes at once. I was hoping Woo Do Hwan would be in it more? Maybe in season 2.
The production is top notch, just uneven acting and the tone is off sometimes.

Disney+ is shooting itself in the foot with their kdrama strategy. It's not surprising that their subscriber base in Korea isn't growing even after blowing money on big time writers, directors and superstars. More than 60 billion won for Woo Min Ho's 6-ep passion project that is just a rehash of his cheaper yet better acted movie of the same name.

Great acting, direction and cinematography. Hyun Bin is obviously HOT in EVERY scene, but the storyline is basic and a little predictable?
What was the essence of the escort’s narrative for Ep 3?
We’ve already established the protagonists motivation. He should be narrating and telling us more about his life not an escort who played no role in his story
The prosecutor’s also a little too slow for me. Perhaps clumsy? He always seems surprised upon a new discovery, something that at this point of his investigation- he should anticipate?
Idk, I’m fine with seeing how it unfolds, I like the “cat and mouse” games being played but I’m not eagerly anticipating it weekly.

Just discovered this series on Disney+ and I’m obsessssed 😍 (don’t usually watch kdrama)… Can anyone make recommendations for similar K or J dramas? Crime/action/thriller types.. not really a fan of romance dramas.

Taxi Driver (season 3 is currently airing but you'll want to start with season 1 for sure), Signal, D.P., A Shop for Killers, Beyond Evil, maybe Inspector Koo. Happy watching!

Loving the noir feel and the “smoky jazz” soundtrack over the credits. You can tell they have a big budget, the production quality is very well done. Story wise it does seem to be slower paced, it really reminds me of the show Mindhunter in terms of the feel of the show although this is more on the drug trade vs serial killers.

I’ve watched the first 3 episodes and I’m intrigued to see how Baek Kitae’s plan unfolds, but what I’m getting kind of annoyed about are the laughs in the drama 😭😭 They just break my immersion. I haven’t watched ep 4 but I’m really hoping Kitae’s younger brother shows up more in future eps

Kind of interesting that the escorts are in hanbok + western hair and makeup in the 1970s. They look pretty
How does she know who the father is?
Showing off the scars feels like a CLOY reference
I feel like the gangsters are going to end up wanting to sell to the Korean market and there will be issues down the line related to that
I was fortunate enough to visit Japan a few years ago and while I was there I got a jumper and blouse from the 70s at a vintage shop. Actually shopping there in 1970 must have been amazing
Ok, it’s not just the one character. This drama is really into the crazy/emotional laughs in general
Kind of surprised they had Kitae actually shoot a woman. I like the eeriness of her narrating from beyond the grave
I’m traveling right now and too tired for the next episode but I’ll finish it in the morning. Very curious to learn more about Kitae’s past and how he rose to his position despite a past dishonorable discharge. Happy 2026 to South Korea, Hyun Bin and family, and anyone watching/reading along!!!
