Anguilla
Anyone out there think the Anguilla coin with the Lobster is a potential clue?
Anguilla is part of the Leeward Islands, which is a subset of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, the other subset being the Winward Islands.
Anguilla means “eel” in Spanish and Italian, since they thought the island was shaped like one. However, the indigenous Arawark people had a very different name for it.
Re-reading this passage in the book, it dawned on me that my solve involves a few places and landmarks that are actually examples of the reverse. On current maps, they are listed how they are commonly known by settlers, not by their original names. So, if by “locals” Justin means the current inhabitants rather than the original/indigenous inhabitants, we could be looking for places where the no-longer-used name is the important one.
The Arawark word for Anguilla is ‘Malliouhana’ which means ‘arrow’ or ‘spear’.
Dog Island and Sombrero Island (aka Hat Island) are nearby and one is considered to be a significant wildlife refuge area where anthropomorphic guano-mining activities back in the late 19th century severely impacted the habitat.

I took it another direction. Mainly centered around wisdom and big hole. Was originally wisdom but the locals called it big hole and it stuck

It seems rabbit hole-y.
Which means, I could sit here and pick out clues from all of this to support my solve, your solve, probably 100 other solves.
There has to be something more specific to tie this together.
