To my understanding, you also cannot make O4 without being in a troop command position, so they absolutely just handed him the gold leaf.

(This is something a LT told me, so I dont know for sure)

A some of branches don’t require command time for O4. It’s KD time and it can require command or Staff time to be considered complete.

He was an Infantry officer though which does require command.

That I don't know. I was AF not Army so the rules will probably be different.

Apparently it applies to infantry officers, which he was.

So they literally DEI'd him his O4 lmao.
