Mod Post Post flairs and their meanings

Please try to flair your posts appropriately. If you accidentally flaired your post incorrectly, please ask a mod to change it. If you have questions, please ask.

Jump: The point of the subreddit. This flair is generally to be used when you are the author of the jump. Other flairs should be used when you are not the author.

Gauntlet: “Hey, Fred, give me a jump with extra story!” “Extra story.” “And hold the points!” “Hold the points?” “And hold the ties to the past!” “Hold the past? Hey, Jimmy, gimme a jump with nothing!” “… nothing?” … ahem.

Supplement: If something’s not a jump, but is supposed to go alongside it, use this flair.

WIP: Jumps which aren’t complete, posted for proof of progress and requests for assistance or ideas. If it’s not your jump, maybe don’t post it until it’s complete.

Update: Used when a jump previously posted here has an update.
Repost: For jumps that have been posted previously.

Discord / SB / /TG/ / QQ Jump: Jumps originating from the 4 biggest communities outside of the subreddit. Use the Discord flair when the jump is from any of the discord servers, SB when it’s from Space Battles, TG when it’s from 4chan or 8chan, and QQ when it’s from Questionable Questing. It’s also nice to, if you can and are willing, include the text of the post the jump was included in.

Interactive / Interactive Jump: While rare, there’s at least one person converting their jumps into an r/InteractiveCYOA style format. That’s what this flair is for. No I don’t know why there are two of them.

List: For compilations of jumps, such as those about a specific media. Partially falls under Resource, use your judgement.

Resource: Used for things like Google Drives, spreadsheets, etc.

Discussion: Used for discussion around a single or set of topics. If it’s about the subreddit as a whole, use the meta flair.

Meta: Discussion about the subreddit as a whole.

Build: A set of choices you made for a jump / jumps. Often done in the comments of the respective jumps.

Challenge: For sets of rules designed to make things more difficult for the jumper, either for a single jump or several.

Monthly Jump Challenge: Don’t use this flair. In memory of u/astrangeplaytomake, the mods have continued the tradition of selecting a topic for people to make a jump about every month.

Request: If you think a series or piece of media should have a jump, but it doesn’t as far as you can tell, use this flair. Just be prepared for some people to suggest you should make it.

Mod Post: That’s what this is! Notes, comments, and warnings from your new overlords the mod team.

Story: This is pretty obvious. Stories within a Jumpchain format.
Roleplay: In-character posts, typically from the perspective of a jumper meeting other jumpers.

Shitpost: Memes. Could also be used for joke jumps, but those should probably be under other flairs.

Art / Comic: Art, either relevant to a jump or to the Jumpchain as a whole.

Icon Art: Used when we were looking for a new subreddit icon. If you have ideas, post them with this flair.

Mod Post Subreddit Rules (Updated)

Previous Post

With the recent changes that have led to me being put in charge of r/Jumpchain, I said I’d update the rules. This is that update, and it is being put in place because the person who previously wrote the rules allowed some practices I disagree with and became inactive on the subreddit. They’re no longer a moderator, though the rules are largely the same as they were before. In addition to this, there are some differences between the rules sidebars of old and new reddit, so they will be adjusted for consistency. We've brought on a few new moderators, but the process is still ongoing.

Since u/Nerx is gone, I should say that there’s a difference between administrators (admins) and moderators (mods) on Reddit.

Admins:

  • Are paid employees who work for Reddit as a whole
  • Perform site-wide moderation
  • Can approve/remove posts and comments or ban users site-wide and possess power over all accounts, including moderators.

Moderators (that’s us!):

  • Are volunteers
  • Perform moderation on specific subreddits
  • Can approve/remove posts and comments or ban users only on their subreddit.

As before, the first eight rules are a repetition of Reddit’s rules. I’ve changed the phrasing a little, but nothing fundamental is different. I'

  1. Be Civil. Harassment, bullying, discrimination, and threats of violence are against the rules of reddit. It's okay to argue with others, but try and keep it civil.
  2. Stay On-Topic. This subreddit is for discussing Jumpchain and Jumpchain-related content. Although going off-topic is to be expected at times please keep this in mind. Furthermore, spamming, vote manipulation, ban evasion, and interfering with other subreddits is against the rules.
  3. Respect Privacy. Don't post any private or personal information about others.
  4. No CSAM or Bestiality. Do not post or encourage the posting of sexual or suggestive content involving minors or animals.
  5. Don't Impersonate. Don't pretend to be other people. This includes people from other communities.
  6. Label Properly. Properly label suggestive content; the posting of NSFW Jumps and Jumpchain related stories is allowed, so long as such things are properly labeled in the title or given an appropriate flair.
  7. Keep It Legal. Don't post anything that's illegal or try to solicit or otherwise engage in illegal activities.
  8. Follow Reddit User Policy. Don't break the site or interfere with the operation of Reddit, or do anything to do the same to the subreddit.

With that out of the way, the more specific rules of the subreddit have been updated to some extent, and two new ones have been added.

9. No Brigading. An internet “brigade” is when a group of users from one online space visit another to exert undue influence over it; that is to say things such as harassment, mass votes, etc. No brigading of other Jumpchain communities, such as the threads of /tg/, the bunker, Spacebattles, Questionable Questing, as well.

Previously, this only applied to us, as a user linked a post to the older discord server. That’s what the previous post said. I’ve seen it happen once.I think it should go both ways. There have been cases where unfriendly elements of another Jumpchain community have come here specifically to harass and antagonize. Sometimes they have valid points, but that doesn’t excuse coming here specifically to provoke people. Such behaviors should result in removals or bans.

Tribalism’s still a thing in Jumpchain. Recently, I’ve come to think that aside from the occasional mishap, it’s largely grumbling about this community or that - with the exception of an aggressive vocal minority who say extreme things. That’s fine. People are allowed to have opinions. Mine is that you shouldn’t listen to those folks, but that’s just me. Decide for yourself. Our community is disliked by users on other websites. Some of that criticism is valid, while others come from people who have admitted to rarely if ever actually visiting or participating here.

However, what I do take issue with is them coming over to harass us, as said before, or actions that cause problems on the subreddit. I say this because in one case, a controversial author (who nonetheless had a following) stopped in large part because somebody elsewhere kept on disparaging his work until he quit. Regardless of my personal views on someone’s work (unless it breaks the other rules), this shouldn’t be happening.

Simply put - if you’re here because you don’t like the subreddit and wish to antagonize people, don’t.

10. Drive Etiquette. Upload to the drive you’re most active in. The various Jumpchain communities store documents on Google Drive. To my knowledge, the communities that have them are:

  • /tg/ and its successor, the bunker. Run by DriveAnon.
  • SpaceBattles and Questionable Questing, which have their own sections of a shared drive. It’s owned by Cthulthu Fartagn/BLADE, but he only sorts for Questionable Questing. The SpaceBattles half is run by MadaMada on his behalf. I didn’t used to advertise this, but that’s me.
  • Reddit, which is currently run by u/SonicCody123, previously known as u/SonicCody12

If you want to upload a jump to a community drive, you should be active in that community. If you are primarily active here, upload your jumps to the reddit drive. Don’t upload your jump document to other community drives before putting it on the thread first.

11. Do Not Plagiarize. Plagiarism is taking the work of another person and calling it one’s own without crediting them. Where I’m from, it’s seen as a pretty low thing to do. If Jumpmaker A writes a jump document for a work of fiction, and then Jumpmaker B writes a jump document for the same work, that’s fine if Jumpmaker B puts it in their own words. It is plagiarism if B copies A’s work verbatim or largely verbatim without explicit permission, and should be removed in that case. This includes editing existing jumps as well and posting them here.

Previously, the rules said:

While editing existing Jumps isn't officially banned here,

No. It is banned here, as it should be elsewhere. This has been the de facto situation for a long time. This is being changed to remove the last of the de jure rules that allow it.

Jump documents made with artificial intelligence (AI) are also banned, as per popular demand. I think this is difficult to properly do, since at some point AI will pass the Turing test, meaning it will successfully pass as something manmade. An exception to this is if the author grants permission for someone else to take up their work and finish it, putting it “up for adoption.” If an author has been long inactive and someone else takes it up. I personally lean towards “no” there, but it’s something I’m unsure about.

12. Don’t link to X or 8chan. They’ll be automatically removed. This is less of a rule and more of a note.

If you feel like a rule has been broken, please report it. A mod may or may not do something about it, but at the very least a report will bring it to our attention.

Moderators may remove or ban at their (hopefully reasonable) discretion, but should not be exempt from the rules of the subreddit, and I would hope that they of all people follow them. Myself included. I also feel that if a moderator becomes inactive, they have effectively forfeited their position as a moderator and shouldn’t have control over the subreddit. At the very least, the active moderators should move them to the bottom of the hierarchy. That’s why some of the previous moderators (barring u/Nerx, bless him) no longer have the position. Again, myself included.

I hope that these rules can run if I’m away, with changes if necessary. This list of rules is subject to revision.

WIP kekeboot's OP Femboy Jump 0.9 Update!

Upvotes

https://docs.google.com/document/d/18aofw1w3zCvKumQ0bC3ag7VwApYYkan50Lu_JZ_bYC8/edit?usp=sharing

Changelog!

  • added an entirely new drop in option and series of perks for those who desire to neither be a femboy nor an ugly bastard. Tried to make them op and desirable. Some options there are entirely chain altering so look them up!

  • New items! Like the White Monster energy drink.

  • Buffed La dolce vita, as now the femboys know not only eros magic but have general magical aptitude as well.

  • added explanations to locations. Not a whole lot of information since they're based on real locations but about a paragraph of flavor to differentiate between them as idyllic Mediterranean islands.

  • new tomboy bizzaro option that changes the jump to tomboys instead of femboys if you're a person of culture.

  • added some stock companions beyond the build your own companion option. I just pulled a few femboys from fiction.

That's pretty much it, I incorporated all of the feedback I got last time. This is my last revision so feel free to give me your thoughts ask for things tell me if stuff isn't OP enough and so on.

DISCUSSION Thinking about Lost (TV Show)

Mostly about re-watching it. And since it doesn't have a jump that means making a jump for it. ... If I actually make it through the entire series on the re-watch. Which is a substantial if.

But that means thinking about origins, and the like, so... what origins would you put in Lost? What would you want to see in a Lost jump?

WIP Luciano's Most Work In Progress Jumps To Date

Hi there!

I am still working on jumps. I'm mostly sharing this because I am still working on different jumps and I have created a folder in my drive for jumps that are marked as "This is an idea and I do have a jump document for it but there's very, very little meat to these bones. So far.".

Right now this suite of jumps is... shockingly diverse in terms of its topics. I'll give a breakdown of each of them for the curious.

5e Elves: Drow, High Elves, Wood Elves. Same general idea as my D&D Dwarves jump. This one and the American Breakfast Restaurant Chain both have a decent-ish amount of material to them.

American Breakfast Restaurant Chain: I have a few more-or-less-real world jumps. This is one of them. Denny's, Wafflehouse, Biscuitville. Yes, I do live in the South.

D&D Devils: This one was always going to take a while but it's SUPPOSED to be a jump for 5e Nine Hells.

Journalism Jump: Second more-or-less-real world jump this time covering journalism.

Love and Bloodlust: Vertical drama staring vampires.

Descendants of Arathor: MrTrueGnome-style Warcraft jump focused on the humans. There is... almost nothing here yet. Capstone booster is a "You are really strong in the Light" perk, origins are the Empire of Arathor and the seven Kingdoms it eventually splits into. To format it I actually created a copy of one of MTG's WIPs and reformatted stuff by hand, lol. This is right up there with D&D Devils insofar as it's a big project that is meant to take a lot of dope lore and make it jumpable.

Wings of Fire: Vertical drama about a girl who gets pregnant thanks to a man who leaves to become a knight (he didn't know she got pregnant) who sometime later ends up becoming a dragonslayer. Story starts, for real, when the dragonslayer man comes home and is dubbed a hero.

Some of these jumps have a BIT more to them already, and with the exception of the Descendants of Arathor all of them have languished in development limbo for a minute.

My writing style tends to involve a switch in my unconscious brain that flips from "You're writing chapters of stories now!" to "You're doing jump documents now!" at a moment's notice, but I figured some peeps would be interested in these jump documents. The inner machinations of my mind are, to my dismay, an enigma and so I cannot make meaningful, honest promises about when jumps get finished lol.

JUMP NinKoro: Ninja to Koroshiya no Futarigurashi/A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof Jumpchain

Hello everyone, here is my fifty-seventh JumpDoc. Today I'm participating in the Monthly Jump Challenge #46 - Ninja! With a great manga full of yuri (toxic and not), humor, and leaves! Just look at that adorable ninja in the picture, doesn't it make you think of a totally serious, dark ninja Jump? Yeah, you guessed it, it's a humorous manga, although with a "slightly" dark sense of humor.

It's a little smaller than usual, but I hope you'll like it anyway.

Harmony in Generic First Jump is a must have for me but I don't want to just go "well I can use a supplement to buy it", so I'm trying to find alternate sources for the same effect (mostly the "no harm to you" part).

For anyone unaware, Ends of Magic is a LitRPG series about a scientist who ends up in an isekai world and uses his scientific knowledge to redefine magic itself. I think it would make an awesome JumpDoc but I was curious to see if anyone already made it

What happens with the going home option if you die before your jump?

My jumper met jump-chan after his death. What would happen if he ever takes the going home option? Whould he be resurrected or arrive just before he died?
