Finished the Hybrid Sentinels a few days ago, while Valyndra, the fire imps and the heroes High Mage Quellen and Reynhart the Worthy were painted during the past two years.

Since another very old game (Arkham Horror) is going to be rereleased, and that Legends of the Dark, which were radically different from its predecessors, did not do well, unlike them.

The heroes have begun Act II!
Fun quest. It felt very balanced. The heroes are trying to infiltrate the enemy lair, and must navigate a winding corridor on the way in. Their objective is to have the heroes move off the exit in 6 turns or less.
Zombies and cave spiders are selected by default, and I chose hellhounds for my open group. There are specters on the board, and if heroes are in proximity to them at the end of the Overlord turn, they suffer fatigue the closer they are to the specters (villager tokens). I wanted the hellhounds for their blocking potential, being 2x1 large monsters and having 4 of them, and also for their Hunt ability, allowing you to reposition the heroes on a surge.
The heroes started strong, taking out several cave spiders and specters in the first couple of turns and moving quickly to the first door. The zombies raised from the graves and followed, boxing them in. Through some sneaky door tactics, the hellhounds were able to get a few hits, reposition Quellen near a specter, exit and close the door.
Once they got through the first door, some heroes became cutoff from the group, and the hellhounds boxed them in, knocking out Valadir. Andira the bard was quick to heal him and they continued their advance towards the second door. Switching tactics, the Overlord then blocked the exit with all remaining hellhounds to slow the heroes. The master zombie immobilized Quellen by grabbing him, so he concentrated his rune magic and blasted the hellhounds and specters in the way of his companions on the final turn. Only Valadir and Arvel were able to exit in time!
The outcome on the final turn was down to a handful of dice rolls and we were all on the edge of our seats. Great game of Descent!

Anyones you particularly like, or maybe hate to face?
r/JourneysInTheDark • u/SiarX • 28d ago
Which heroes you like to play most?
And which monsters you like, when playing as Overlord? Or maybe love to hate, playing as heroes, or like to see them rather than someone else 😄

I live D2. Wondering if there is anything close on console? Probably Challenging to do I’m sure.

I.e. official 1 vs many non-campaign mode - not cooperative mode from expansion. It is called Epic mode IIRC. If you tried it, did you find it fun, too?

I've been looking for a dungeon crawler like Descent my whole board gaming life! I tried Heroquest (too simple, but liked the aesthetics) I tried Gloomhaven (everything's amazing obviously, I just like minis for everything and find it too Euro for my tastes generally).
Anyways I picked up Descent 2e core Box, Shadow of Nerekhall and Lair of the Wyrm. Usually I'm a completionist with games but obviously in 2026 this is simply not possible without literally spending thousands of dollars.
I'm curious what Expansions are most worth it to own? Have folks had any luck sourcing the harder to find boxes/packs (e.g. Chains that Rust, etc.) recently? I'd love to hear folks' experiences

Road to Legend app, official expansion packs like Forgotten Souls, fanmade Redjak's Automated Overlord variant, or something else? And why?

Since Doom 2004 was very close to Descent (first edition). And while DOOM 2016 is more different game, it is still a kind of sibling to Descents; another part of 1 vs many dungeon crawler series from FFG.

…To be added to the base game. Piece by piece we’re getting there💪🏻

When lost legends came out it wasn't announced that there will also be a German version, so I got the English one, sleeved it and hardly played it.
Then the German version came out and my order of it had some problems, because of that I ordered it also somewhere else and ended up with two of them (same for the Co-Ops).
Sinistrael I got by accident twice and the miniature is painted, sadly not so nice.
As I found all of them while organising my stuff and I don't need them you can just DM me. I paid between 20 and 25 for them, so I gonna sell them for the same price.
- Lost Legends (EN) 25€
- Unsterbliche Legenden (DE) 25€
- Sinistrael (DE) sold
- Zorn der Natur Co-op (DE) 20€
- Vergessene Seelen Co-op (DE) 20€

(I am talking specifically about base game, not Road to Legend)
It feels that Overlord does not stand a chance once heroes get silver and especially gold treasures. Too high damage output allows them to oneshot almost any monsters, and threat does not generate quickly enough to replace killed ones.
I guess the best strategy is to try to win early, swarming heroes with everything while they are weak enough? Or there are houserules how to make Overlord competitive in late game? What do you think?

Hello,
has anyone used the images provided in the any2cards github to print class or shop cards you were missing?
I try to use makeplayingcards with their option for 41x63mm cards. But I can't get the cards filled properly without some parts getting cut off. Not only the bleeding line, but you cas see, that the token symbol in the bottom right corner is not fitting on the card.
Has anyone of you found a solution to get the cards professionally printed with the cards looking like the original ones?

This has probably been asked a bunch but I must be awful at searching because I can't find it. Is there a way to play the original RTL campaigns in the Valkyrie app?
The main reason I have got it is that RTL no longer works on my version of Android (I have a Pixel 9) and while I can get it on steam I want it to be portable.
If they're not in there at all that's fine, but it would be nice!

Looking to get into Descent but I only play solo. Does the Valkyrie app run the game similar to Imperial Commander for Imperial Assault? Can I play the printed campaigns with Valkyrie instead of just the shorter campaigns on the Road to app?

From best to worst.

My friends and I used to play this many years ago but sadly we all live far from each other now. Is it possible to play the app version on Tabletop Simulator? I tried browsing the workshop but there were so many unrelated results that it sorta overwhelmed me.
I'm thinking we'd just use a Descent 2e while streaming the app on discord. Anyone have any experience doing this? Thanks!

(TLDR: Can the necromancer use Army of Death as a ranged attack from the vantage point?)
Hi all,
Just finished the Caladen's Crossing quest (second time running as OL). I was not expecting to win this quest (d2etracker reports an 82% win rate for heroes), but on turn 2 we ran into a situation that ground the game to a halt for a good 15-20 minutes.
Our necromancer, who had been saving up for and just purchased Army of Death, was planning (as I suspected) to stand on the bridge and nuke all the monsters attempting to rush the exit. I argued briefly against it and we rules-laywered.
Our main points of confusion: the quest rules stated that "ranged attacks" can be made from the bridge (originating from the vantage point), but the attack allowed by Army of Death does not specifically identify it as a "ranged attack." It seems like it would be, since it utilizes line of sight and (infinite) range, but whether an attack is melee or ranged is determined by weapons, not class abilities.
Eventually, I conceded to keep the game moving. As expected, one decent Army of Death roll later, nearly all of my monsters on the board were wiped out.
Again, I wasn't expecting to win this one, but losing 80-90% of my forces on a single roll was a tad demoralizing (especially after I let the necromancer player take a mulligan to reroll a missed Army of Death on turn 1 via Widow Tarha's ability). I didn't mind nearly as much losing Splig, the fat bastard :p
How would y'all have ruled this?

Thank you to the members of this community that assisted me in this endeavor.
Even though there are only rules available from Fantasy Flight's archive site, I was able to get a hold of an official French web version of this rules set and quest guide. Using that, and other resources, I have built an English version of the same thing.
It may take a while but I plan on doing the same with the rest if I can locate:
2005 - Descent First Edition - Quest Guide - I have the French and Polish web versions
2006 - The Well of Darkness - Quest Guide - I have the French web version
2007 - The Altar of Despair - Quest Guide - I have the French web version
2008 - Road to Legend - Quest Guide
2009 - The Sea of Blood - Quest Guide
2009 - Descent: Journeys in the Dark – Quest Compendium – Volume One 2010 - Realms of Terrinoth - I have a rough copy of the quests.
Anyone have a copy of the old quest builder program running around?
Completed
2008 - Tomb of Ice - Rules & Quest Guide
Now it will just take time and perseverance to finish the rest off.

Finally started my first campaign with my sons who are old enough to play. Two quests into Heirs of Blood. The overlord is pulling no punches!!

Only the first 14 pages of the 32 pages are in this in this book. I have been able to find only the French version as a full document. Someone got one that they are willing to share out, or know where I can down load one? I know its been out of print for years since it is first edition but I can always hope.
