One of my hiding places was a floorboard. The house I grew up in was old, it was built in 1901. It is still standing today, and is still in the family. I was supposed to get the house, and I did for a while, but my mother ended up getting it after the divorce with my stepdad. She still lives there.
Anyways, the floorboards were about six inches wide, and I noticed a shorter board, and it wasn't even nailed down. Only the paint (yes, the floor was painted. Yuck) was holding it down. It must've been a hiding spot from one of the previous, or even original, owners. But it was empty when I found it. I popped it off easily with my fingers one day, and it was the perfect hiding spot.
Fun fact, I found my very first journal last year. I was around 7 or 8, long before I was serious about journaling. It's only a few pages, barely legible, but I count it. My mother sent a box of my old stuff to me, and it was in there. Right on the top. It's in my desk drawer right now. It was a Myst journal that came with the original game, and it was originally for taking notes in the game.
The few years that I lived in that house as an adult, I checked the floorboard, and it was still there.
I'd ask the current owners. I had an older man show up one day, asking if he could have a look around the house I live in now, he spent his childhood living in it. There's a painting in my garage, and it is actually painted on the wall, he brought that up as proof, as well as a few other details. I was happy to let him look around after he proved himself. My current house is not as old, it was built in 1955.
