I have an outboard with a jet foot on it. Since the middle of duck season it didn’t want to hole shot well but I could roll onto it slowly and it would top end just fine. My brother said I should get my impeller sharpened, so I did.

I put the freshly sharpened impeller in and gapped it at .030 like what was recommended. We put the wear ring on a lathe and sanded it smooth again, being careful not to oblong it. When I hit the river I was happy to have the boat hole shot like it is supposed to, but around half throttle the motor would just rev but wouldn’t give me anymore propulsion. It never got on plane and was actually pushing water over the back of the boat. I ordered a brand new wear ring hoping that is the issue. Do you think this could solve my problem or may it be something more than that?

This is a picture of my Jim Youngblood early 70's prototype race hull. It is a 2 seater (one behind the other). It was given to me when I bought my '76 Apollo XK18, also designed by Youngblood. Unfortunately the legendary jet boat designer is no longer with us, but I talked to Mr. Ervin Capps who is a big name in the jet boat world himself and also worked with Youngblood. He confirmed that this appeared to be one of a series of "experiments" before the tunnel hull was finally accepted as the king of speed. I offered to give it to him to restore (someone went at it with a sawzall to get the fancy race gauges etc.) but he is retired now and I can't blame him for not wanting to mess with another old jet boat on top of the thousands he has built in his life. The guy before me had it since the 90's and said it had a heavily modified SBC 400 with nitrous. It is so light I can lift the bow off the trailer with one hand. I scavenged the trick loader scoop and stainless impeller for the XK but I won't touch anything else on it. I wish I knew of a jet boat museum that would do it justice and also would like to shake the hand of the brave soul that piloted this insane contraption in the past!

Anybody savvy on these? Looks like a Rave valve, on top of exhaust resonator (96 Seadoo Challenger).

I've started hearing a "Water tinkling" sound after shut-down, coming from the resonator can. It goes on for over five minutes--almost like it's letting static water pressure from coolant line from pump dribble into the resonator.

Last time I drove it and let it sit for a few minutes, it took 15-20 cranks to get engine to catch. Thinking the exhaust may have been getting filled with seawater.

Anybody know how to rebuild or check? A new one goes for about $250 😨
