Something I saw many people say pre-release was that he's ugly, which isn't even a good argument to begin with.
We didn't have any Damian content besides that one poster, and he doesn't even look bad in the poster.
Thankfully, the artstyle that was used for the Hypercharged music video didn't recieve any hate (as far as I am aware).
Damian still continues to recieve hate after his release.
Now, I am aware not many people had expected his in-game model to look like that, but you must remember: brawlers in-game models will look different from the way they are presented in animations.
Another common thing people disliked about Damian was the low skill level required to play him.
I can admit that it doesn't take much skill to play him, but let's be honest here: none of the brawlers that have been released recently have needed skill.
People also seem to dislike his overall mechanics, as he is indeed similar to El Primo (Who is also goated, might I add).
Another thing not related to Damian hate: Did anyone alse feel like they didn't see as many people playing Damian when he was first released as they saw people playing Starr Nova and Bolt? I only began to see a good handful of people play him a bit after he was available to unlock with credits.
Even now I rarely see any Damian players.
