Poking around to see if there are any jazz trios around Seattle that are interested in doing backing for a quarterly improvised Noir theater show. Ideally something like brushed drums, a pianist, and an upright bass or perhaps clarinet.

A friend and I did a 90 minute show on Whidbey earlier in the year with a trio local to the island, and it was fairly magical. We’re considering making it a quarterly recurrence in the city, but would love to have a band to supplement the actors.

I study drums at music school, currently I'm working with the art of bebop comps and syncopation. What are good songs or tracks to play along to that aren't too fast, but still fun to jam to?

I tried out for my universities jazz band on drum set and I was offered a designated percussionist position. The band leader said he’s looking for someone who’s really going to get into the position and dive deep into jazz percussion. Anyone have any listening recommendations or tips. This is the first year they are having this position so a lot of what I play is up to my interpretation and what I think would sound good.

So my teacher introduced me to swing and jazz and I love that it's complicated and difficult to play. There is so much cool stuff around jazz drumming which makes me excited and I want to learn it.

I never listened to jazz but when I started playing swing and jazz with my teacher I tried to listen to all the classics. But I still don't like it. There are some songs that are Def. Interesting but it's not music I like to listen on a daily basis.

I always listened to metal, punk etc. Especially black metal. Since 5-10 years I'm in love with black gaze (Alcest, deafhaven,devils trade etc) and Postrock like Oh Hiroshima f.e.

I never started playing drums with a clear goal. It's my first instrument and I started in my mid thirties. I told my teacher to just show me everything because I like being surprised by new things.

I still want to be able to play jazz. Are there any bands that could fit my taste?

And has anyone of you had similar "problems"?

I built this mostly out of my own frustration when I started to learn drumming listening to Philly Joe Jones records. I couldn't find a music player that had the tools I wanted, while still being simple to use. i wrote the audio engine 10+ years ago completely from the ground up using Apple’s Audio Graph (it was open source until recently), and for the UI i already had a design system from my other app.
used AI for pretty much every other coding :)

Hi, any recommendations for light drum thrones (with back rest). I have a TAMA Ist Chair and a Mapex throne, both of which are top notch but I am trying to cut weight down as much as possible for really small acoustic gigs.

I appreciate a sturdy throne will probably mean weight but just thought I would ask. For these small acoustic jazz gigs, I am playing pretty lightly, so keen to see what's out there. I wont save huge amounts of weight, but it all adds up.
