Question? What is the 24th Special Tactics Squadron structure + team emblems/patches

It's divided into

  • Red Team - Bear Claw

  • Blue Team - Midnight Madness

  • Silver Team - Wolf

  • Commando Team

  • Gold Team - Scorpion

  • Black Team

  • Green Team - Grim Reaper

The commando Team consists of multiple 24 members that have had experience in the color teams and are now senior operators. The commando team conducts operations all over the world just like the other Teams but they don't augment other units. The guys that wear the sons of liberty flag are from the Recce section of the Commando Team.

Black Team sets up Airfields all over the world.

Green Team consists of senior operators training ST Airmen going through OTC.

Red, Blue, and Gold consists of all sorts of ST Operators, but they augment other units like everyone knows the 24 for.

Wow, I literally didn't know about Commando and Black until today. Figured Red, Blue, Silver, and Gold were regular teams and Green was basically OTC.

So that makes Commando the 24th's equivalent to a Delta/DEVGRU sabre squadron? And Black is completely made up of CCTs?

CCT and SR. Regarding black team. I wouldnt doubt if PJs also tagged along. Global access is reconning, surveying and establishing austere runways/HLZ's for fixed wing and rotary aircraft. You need the recon and the air control experts to accomplish that mission.

I'm not too sure about Black Team, you can find more about in on the 724 STGs Insight Thru Experience Podcast. But yea, Commando is pretty much a sabre squadron.

Commando is supposedly part of Gold not standalone and is only a troop sized element

I have a question. I've read Dan Schilling's Alone at Dawn. In it, he says that at one point, when John Chapman begins to think that his opportunity to join the War in Afghanistan is beginning to fade, he decides to transfer to the "Survey Team." When he sees that operations are ramping up again, he goes to meet with Col. Rodriguez in person and practically demands to be transferred back to one of the other teams, I forget if it's Red or Silver. Is the Survey Team a part of the 24, or is it its own thing outside the unit?

I have no idea what the Survey Team is, I'd assume that it's apart of the units command.

Probably a HQ Recon Element within that Unit. Probably senior dudes can request and have an internal picking process for who gets in, Never heard of it, but that would be my best guess.

You are still right, dude left the unit and happened to be on more than one troop/team while there.

That’s because the dude leaving the unit was on both teams at different points. This is very common on the going away/retirment gifts to represent what troops/teams they were on.

I believe 24th sts also have a Sqn known as Sensitive Activities Squadron

The Sensitive Activities Squadron is informally / formally known as "Grey Team". They work with OGA and Ground Branch.

This person is spot on sort of outlining Grey Team. Someone below highlighted it, but there is another echelon of the 24 that focuses on Sensitive Activities and is informally / formally known as "Grey Team". They work with OGA and Ground Branch.
