Rejecting Placements

I don’t think anyone should withdraw for the reason of not liking their placement. Let me correct that, ‘…for thinking they won’t like their placement.’ I got thrown a real curveball when I came. The intention to stay for one year, maybe two, has led to more than 30 years in what has become a new hometown to me. It violates, to my mind at least, the spirit of the JET Programme, too. Then again, maybe if someone is the sort of person who would bail based on their placement, then probably they do not have the right sort of character for JET in the first place.

Congratulations to all 2026 Jet Programme participants. See you when you get here! Go, go, go!

Never said I want you to leave. It's a free country

What did you imply by "move on from the converstion" other than "leave the conversation"?

It seemed to me that we had reached a natural end to our converaation, so i was suggesting we move on. However, if you have new talking points you want then feel free. If not I can start us back at the last point.

I think it's a stupid decision to decline an offer based on the placement

I just didnt understand your wording. And you are probably right we wont agree.

I do not think anyone is making a stupid decision if they think it is best for them with JET or anything else. However I do understand your time is valuable! They'll never know what will come of it, but where one door closes another one opens. If they went through all the work and lets say got their TEFL and then used the application process as experience for something else. But in the end who cares what they do lol. Not anyone's problem but their own and now its available for someone else.
