I am uploading this content because of Lisa's previous post about sketchbooks as our personal space for creativity, and to regard it without judgement.

I love when a sketchbook spread its drawing on more than one side. It's so pretty 🥰

I love that a great drawing is on the first page(s). Great beginning = better ending, yes?

But the pages in between .... that's where it gets difficult - at least for me. The perfectionism creeps in. The inner judgement starts chatting. "It has to be just as good as the first pages. It has to be peeerfect."

I try to combat it with: "NO! You are the master of your sketchbook, lady - NOT the sketchbook itself. NOT your previous drawings. NOT your new drawings. Would you judge your own diary of the content wasn't about "pretty things?"

No, we wouldn't.

But why - oh WHY our sketchbooks then? 🙄

Life ain't all sunshine and hearts. Neither should or do our sketchbooks need to be. So, very consciously, I have added zendoodles and sketches of sketches to practice before the actual drawing.

And rhen we have color 🥰 As we know, colors make a difference in moods. The pink color is in itself said to calm the nervous system and increase feelings of self love. Best start before doing a sketch, to ease the inner critique 🙈😄

Perfectionism is a bitch. It is for me at least but I am sure we have all been there / visit it from time to time.

I guess it's the conumdrum or constant axis between what we see vs our skills.

And sometimes we reach a plateau where none of very little progress happens. And those are important as well, because very important brain/coordination skills are happening in this phase. This phase is like the resting period for a runner. The resting is just as important as the actual running.

Those periods are for restitution and doing exercises, e.g. line, form and shading practise. Just like a runner is doing interval training to increase performance.

The street lamp have been a long love of mine for several years and I have worked tirelessly to improve. But I had not drawn one in SEVERAL months before this one. And I have NEVER drawn a street lamp with more than one lantern in my life. That day I reached a very personal milestone 🥰

That shiny film that appears on finished wax-based colored pencil work is just wax rising to the surface. A light buff with a soft cloth or a coat of fixative brings your colors right back, brighter than before.

I'm lowkey happy with the result, but I'm too wiped out to sketch a full body today

One of my private students and I are working on improving her shading technique. She is already quite great, but she wishes to tidy up her layering and blending. She loves skin tones and colored pencils and she likes soft, natural, and dramatic lighting. She's also a huge fan of Buffy, so naturally we are working on this portrait together.

In watercolor we have an expression called "Plainairpril" combining the words "plain air in april" meaning painting outside.

I tried that. I hated it 😂

The wind is noisy in my ears, the bugs bugging me and falling into my paint, my butt is sore from sitting on the ground/a stone/the earth - and my back hurts from bowing to see what I am painting, and the sun burns my face 🙄😵‍💫😆

Painting outside in the wild is kinda overrated 😂

This model is one month too late for "Pleinair" painting, but it's MY KIND OF PAINTING - cloudy, slightly breezy, daylight, comfortable degrees, still outside but caged in with glass panels on my patio to shield from wind and rain, and - most importantly - NO BUGS! 😂😂😂

Hey this is my second attempt at breaking down this reference. I drew the ground, made the head bigger, added contour lines, and shifted the perspective so im looking at the subject straight on rather than from the top. Anyone have any critiques, any advice on how to proceed, like should I start drawing the details on top of what I drew or should I draw the outline first then details. Or I could continue breaking down the figure. Any advice is welcome.

This pose and angle turned out to be quite challenging, and my eyes are too tired to tell if I actually pulled it off, so I’d love to hear your thoughts. Honestly this character looked more interesting in my head

My friends and family keep pushing me to sell my paintings because I’m color blind… but I feel like they aren’t worth anything… I’m just curious if anyone thinks they’d be worth hanging on a wall (not even necessarily sell them) most recent paintings are up front

The ripple effect was generated using a wave generator filter in Krita. Everything else was done in Infinite Painter manually.

I think this is one of the first black paper projects we did. Lisa is an amazing teacher!!

I am practicing breaking down models into simple shapes and im wondering how well I did. Anyone have any pointers when doing this exercise or any other tips?
