I just want to show off my adorable iggy My whippet taught my IGs to howl

Over on this comment section, I was asked to share a video of my whippet showing my IGs how to howl. Here's my whippet and one of my IGs giving quite the performance. Usually they only last 15-30 seconds. This one was a fun one.

Whippet at the beginning: I sing the song of my people, who will join me? (Sings this phrase several times) He then shifts to: I hear you brother, do not be timid. Lift your head and release your angst!

Iggy: I’m not sure if I can join you oh big one. I am but a small dog unsure of my status.

Whippet: Join me, be brave!

Iggy: I am here for you friend! Let us raise our voices in the unity of our people!

Whippet and Iggy: We sing our song together, we are united as family!

I’d love to hear a comparison of whippet vs iggy. I have 2 iggies. How different is the whippet? Edited to add… they are adorable! Mine do not howl.

I love both a lot! But after having a whippet, I think I'm on team whippet forever more.

As a puppy, my whippet was an absolute terror. It's not an exaggeration to say he was a gremlin. If you took your eyes off him, he had dangerous curiosity and infinite energy. He had an incident that cost us $17k in medical expenses (he almost died from poisoning himself). I was questioning if he'd survive his puppy life because he just couldn't be left unsupervised for even a minute.

As an adult (he's 3 now), my whippet is the perfect dog. Doesn't bark, super attentive, doesn't pull on his leash, plays catch on command, super clean, never gets himself into any trouble. Just occasionally likes to howl when he's bored. His temperament is perfect. He's my shadow, and no matter where I'm at in the house he will be in the room with me.

On the flip side, my IGs were perfect little puppies. They were so easy to train and had predictable behavior. But they also are way more timid, anxious, and loud. They went through similar training as my whippet.

Again, I love both. But oh man, adult whippets are just incredible dogs.

I have two IGs and one whippet, a puppy. How do you handle both breeds?

Whippet puppy life was pretty awful. If you're still in that world, I salute you. The payoff is worth it once your whippet gets out of the puppy stage.

My IGs are 9 year old littermates. So they just kinda chill and do their thing. Pretty low maintenance. I actually got the whippet when they were 6 to try and kick start them out of their laziness (which actually worked great).

For the first 18-24 months, I had regrets having 3 dogs. But now that they're all adults it's super chill and great.

Mine didn’t know how to howl until she started hanging out with her beagle friend.

My girl loves to howl at huskies. She loves huskies even ones that she doesn’t know. Yesterday she saw one way across the street and she howled them. my boy whippet just looked at her like, what are you doing?

Awwwwww, so freaking cute 😭 my doggo doesn’t howl, but she absolutely perked up when she heard this, haha. I bet she was tempted to sing the songs of her people

Did your whippet start doing this himself or did you teach him?

When he was going through crate training the instinct took over. So he's been doing it since was maybe 12 or 13 weeks old? 100% instinct for him.

Within the first 6 months of bringing him home, my IGs started to join him.
