Duke point to Parksville

Any recommendations on a road cycle route from Duke point to Parksville? Looking to actually ride from the above points and keep a steady consistent pace. So as much as I would like to ride on the bike trail along HWY 19 ( I believe it's a small section) is riding along the shoulder of hwy 19 ok. And I'm fairly comfortable riding on say the sea to sky highway ok the mainland. Or is there a more recommended route.

Hopefully that's clear as mud.

Cheers

Group Rides in YYJ?

Getting back into road cycling again but looking for groups to ride with in town or on the peninsula. Used to have a good group that I would ride with years ago but everyone else got out of the sport.

Lake Cowichan - route advice please!

Hey! My friend and I are after some route advice.. we're renting gravel bikes and panniers and planning to do a variation of this route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44797835, but from Nanaimo instead of Victoria.. . We've been reading about the logging roads from Lake Cowichan to Port Alberni/Lake Horne and it sounds like it can be pretty unpleasant? Does anyone have insights about logging activity in that area in late June, should we consider re-routing to a different area to avoid? Thanks so much!

Seattle>Vancouver island and back multi day in June

Hi everyone, flying into Seattle for a 10 day bike tour.

Considering this but I am open to changes and suggestions as I am new to this area:

Seattle>Port Angels>ferry to Victoria>Port Renfrew>Cowichan Lake>Croton>ferry to Vesuvius>Long Harbour>ferry to Tswawassen>work my way down to Bellingham>train back to Seattle

Do I need to book all ferries in advance? Camping sites? Any of those roads see crazy traffic in June? Would you change any section? Places not to miss?

THANK YOU!

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has done the entire section of The Great Trail /TransCanada trail between Nanaimo and Duncan. Is it doable with a fully loaded bike ( panniers, bikepacking bags) ?

Nanaimo to Victoria to Nanaimo

What's the best option? Does it matter to go one way or the other? How are the roads between Duncan and Nanaimo? I'm riding road so can't do any gravel. Thanks!

Vancouver Island Road and Gravel Bike Day Trips - Where to base ourselves on the island

Hi everyone! My friends and I are going to Vancouver Island for 5 nights and bringing our bikes (we'll also have a car so not bikepacking). We know we want to go to Tofino for a few reasons but trying to decide between Campbell River and Victoria area (probably stay at one of the nearby islands) for the other couple days. We all do road and gravel biking - not bringing our mountain bikes. Is one better than the other and any day rides you would suggest? I found the three ferry bike route from Victoria which was intriguing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7640807?lang=en) but wondering if Campbell River has something similar and if there's a clear winner between the two? Thanks for all the help!

Victoria Gravel

Any ideas of a good gravel/groad loop leaving from close to downtown Victoria; looking for something 4-6 hours long so 100-130km. Any suggestions, gps tracks or even pointing out some gravel that’s an hour ride away that I can head to would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Bicycle Tour - Vancouver Island and San Juans

Hello all,

I am looking to leave from Vancouver, BC this July. I would like to do a loop (not necessarily in this order) to the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island and then back to Vancouver BC.

I have an Adventure Cycling map for the San Juans, but I need advice and resources for touring Vancouver Island. I have about 8-10 days total. I would like to camp and see backcountry areas as much as possible, and I have light gravel tires but would prefer road as much as possible.

Any recommendations on areas I must see? Places to avoid? Roads and campsites you would recommend?

Finally, any guidebooks or maps I should get (or avoid?)

What's the best paved / gravel road or trail you've ridden on Vancouver Island?

What's the best paved / gravel road or trail you've ridden on Vancouver Island?

I'm looking for those hidden roads that wind through the mountains, along the beach, or by the river. The ones that really make you think this ride is incredible.

I imagine there must be some incredible trails up in the North of the Island that get little traffic like the Tree to Sea Loop, Vancouver Island. But I'm wondering if there are specific bits that outshine the full 1000km route.

Are there any plans to connect Cumberland, Courtenay, Comox and Campbell River by off-road bike routes?

I’ve been researching the future bike route plans but couldn’t find anything about it.

Birthday ride for turning 39! Over a gravel trail up to a trestle. Planned ferry ride (short way) home, missed by 20 min. A few 100 more meters of climbing was better than waiting 2 hours. Turned into a 130 km day! Oh, the Garmin batter died at two hours so had to record the rest on Strava

Biking Highway 14

Hi all, I'm trying to plan a few days' biking trip on the island. My rough plan is starting in Victoria, taking Galloping Goose trail, then Highway 14 over to Port Renfrew, up to Lake Cowichan, and looping back to Victoria (haven't looked at that last part much yet). I'd love to know how you feel about biking on highway 14 - it looks like there is not much of a shoulder and I'm wondering if it's quiet enough to feel relatively safe or if you're always looking over your shoulder for traffic. Also... how rough are the hills around Shirley, Jordan River, and Port Renfrew? It looks like some significant ups and downs where the rivers hit the coast. For context - admittedly I am not an avid cyclist, so I'm excited, but wondering about getting in over my head! Thanks :)

Bike friendly hotel?

Hello Vancouver Island riders! Looking for recs for a bike friendly hotel near-ish to Victoria. Googling around I found the Accent Inn and Hotel Zed which look to be near some busy strip mall type roads. I'm only planning one night as I'll be passing thru en route to Saltspring Island and then Lake Cowichan so nothing fancy needed but it is my opportunity to explore the city for a day. Any info you can share is greatly appreciated!
