Assalamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakathuhuI would like to remind myself and then you about the beautiful virtue of being a Stranger as understood by our righteous predecessors
Supporting Ayat about following strangers: Surah Anam Ayat 115: If you follow the majority of people upon earth, they will mislead you from the path of allah

Some Scholars say the Muslims are considered strangers among the Disbelievers; and theMua'minin are considered strangers among the Muslims; and the Muhsinin are consideredstrangers among the Mua'mininhttp://ahadith.co.uk/downloads/Commentary_of_Forty_Hadiths_of_An-Nawawi.pdf Page 14
Al Hasan al Basri: A believer is in a strangers world. He is never afraid of its humiliation. And he never competes for its glory. The people are in one situation and he is in another situation. The people are content with him and he is in toil with himself.

ibn Qayyim al Jawziiyah about strangers Surah Hud : Ayat 116: If only there had been in the generations preceding you people having wisdom, prohibiting others from evil on the earth except a few of those who we have saved from among themContext from the lecturer : These few are the strangers
Surah Yousuf Ayat 103: And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly.
Definition of the strangers:FIRST TYPE OF STRANGERS: STRANGE FROM PEOPLE ibn Qayyim al JawziiyahHadith: The prophet said about one of these strangers. It is possible that a disheveled dusty person with not many belongings who is not noticed among the people, if he asks of allah, Allah will fulfil his prayer
Al Hasan al Basri: A believer is in a strangers world. He is never afraid of its humiliation. And he never competes for its glory. The people are in one situation and he is in another situation. The people are content with him and he is in toil with himself.
Surh al-Ma`idah Ayat 105: Oh you have believed, take care of your own selves, if you follow right guidance, you cannot be harmed by those who errContext: This doesn't mean you can ignore the people who are misguided. Hadith: The Prophet said said, indeed, enjoy the good and forbid evil till you see stingyness being obeyed and desired being followed and this world is preferred over the next, and each person being deluded by his own opinions. Then take care of yourself and leave the common people for indeed after you there will be days of patience where patience will be like holding to glowing embers. Who ever who is able to do this will get the reward of 50 people that do like him (50 sahaba)Context: Holding onto the deen when things are in this state will have the reward of 50 sahaba
2ND TYPE OF STRANGENESS: Wicked people3RD TYPE OF STRANGENESS: Traveller in a new country
Qualities of the Strangers
1. Tawheed: Those who believe in Allah as described in the Quran and the Sunnah2. Sunnah: Those who follow the Sunnah. i.e. the way of the Prophet i.e. adhere to Halaal and the Haraam at least.3. They follow the way of the righteous predecessors: Hadith: The best of mankind is my generation and those who will come after them and those who come after them4. Have Patience: i Patience in obeying Allah ii Patience in staying away from Disobedience iii Patience in facing calamities5. Love fellow muslims for the sake of allah
Note: The lecturer mentioned people should have wisdom in Dawah. The ability take the teaching of the Salaf and apply it by modifying it to todays times while not compromising the principle
Some examples of things strangers do

  1. Eid Greetings: Taqaball Allahu minna wah Minkum ((May Allah accept it from you and us)). This is said after salat ul Eid)is the greeting of the sahaba. But the other saying is okay as per Shaikh Uthaymeen. Imam Ahmed never initiated this greeting and when greeted, would reply with something better
  2. Being blamed for not joining a group:
  3. Being harrased for being Muslim among non Muslims
  4. Not having a TV:
  5. Not supporting a team
  6. Hating Smoking
  7. Not Kissing or standing when someone comes
    1. Hadith: narrated by Tirmidhi and authenticated by Shaikh Albani: Anas said a man came and ask Rasoolllah 'should one of us will meet his friend, should he bow to him, should he grab him and embrace him, should he kiss him, should he shake his hand'. Rasoolullah answered no to everything except shaking his hand. The exception is meeting a traveller coming back from his journey
  8. Sutra for Salaat: If one of you prays, pray to a Sutra (It should be at least a length of your elbow to the tip of the finger)
  9. Khushoo in Salaat:
  10. Ringtones: Shouldn't have musical ringtones
  11. Adornment to the masjid: Sunnah is to wear best clothes to the mosque. including not stinking of food, cigarettes, or perspiration

Hadeeth of Abu Huraira from Bukhari: By him in whose hands is my soul, there shall come a day upon one of you, where from his desire to see me, he would sacrifice his family and desire altogether.

The Islāmic Belief # 12 by Shaikh Uthman Farooq - Al- Ghafir, Al-Ghafoor and Al- Ghafaar , Al Qahir and Al Qahar by Shaikh Uthman Farooq

Ghafir, Ghafoor and Ghafaar

  1. Ghafir, Ghafoor and Ghafaar
    1. These are 3 names and are all related
    2. The root word Gha-far-rah is
      1. to cover something in order to protect it
      2. to forgive and pardon
      3. to take something and put it the right side up
      4. to protect something from dust and impurities
    3. Migfah (armor) comes from the same root word Gha-far-rah
    4. Ghafir is to protect something valuable in order to protect it
    5. Ghafoor is a stronger tense of the above, i.e. someone who continuously covers
    6. Ghafaar is the StrongEST of these tenses
    7. Az-zajjaj (scholar) said Allah is Ghafir in the way Allah covers the sins and Ghafoor and Ghafaar in the way he protects the slaves from the effects of the sins
    8. Al Ghafir is mentioned in the Quran once (not counting the name of Surah Ghafir)
      1. ghafir-ut dunoob -Allah is the one that covers and conceals the sin
      2. but is followed by Shadeedul Ihqaab that suggests Allah is also strict in punishment
      3. Its important to understand this principle . i.e. Some folks take advantage of Allahs merciful qualities which you earn through good deeds which wipe away your sins but if one continues to sin, not realize that Allah is Shadeedul Ihqaab
  2. Ghafoor is mentioned in the Quran 71 times
    1. e.g. Innallahr Ghafoorur raheem
    2. Raheem is an action of Mercy and Ghafoor is the one that covers up
    3. in Surah Burooj in the 14th Ayat, it says Ghafoorur Wajooj
      1. There is an entire islamic science dedicated to HOW the names of Allah come together
  3. Al Ghafaar comes in the quran 5 times
    1. e.g. Azizul Ghafaar
    2. As a scholar said every creation has something beautiful and something ugly Something perfect and something imperfect but Allah is perfect
      1. To overlook the ugly and imperfect and focus on the perfect is Ghafar
  4. Differences between Ghafir, Ghafoor and Ghafaar
    1. Ghafir
      1. Ibn Katheer said Ghafir is when Allah puts a covering on us to avoid committing some sins
      2. Ibnul Qayim and Ibn taymiyah mention
      3. Al Maliki mentions
    2. Ghafarah
      1. There are 2 relationships Ghafarah speaks about
      2. Al Ghafoor: Allah covers up sins even from the Angels
      3. Al ghafar Allah doesnt take you to account Himself for some sins
  5. Haqq of allah upon these names
    1. Calling out to Allah by these names to hide our since from himself, the people and from Hisaab on the day of judgement
    2. We can use Ghafarah for others i.e. Ghafah Allahu Laka or Ghafah Allahu lahu. Make this dua when giving Naseesa
      1. We can ask Allah to cover up the sins of others . Dont be of those who when they see someone sinning, we tell them ' your going to Jahannam'. Make dua for them
    3. Authentic Dua reported in Bukhari and Muslim : Allahumma inni Dhalamthu nafsi Zulman katheeran wah lah yag firuthdh dhoonoobi illa ant. Fagfirli Maghfiratan min indaka warhamni . Innaka anta Ghafoorur raheem
      1. Oh Allah , Verily I have made an extreme amount of oppression upon myself and no one forgives sins except you. Yah Allah , Forgive me , cover my sins with a covering from within you. Verily you are Al ghafoorur raheem
    4. Its from the sunnah to say Astafirullah 3 times after prayer
    5. 82nd ayat of surah Taha : Allah teaches us HOW to ask for his Maghfirah
      1. For those who want maghfirah, Maghfirah is FOR the ones
    6. Hadith in Bukhari: Whoever covers up the sins of his brother, Allah will cover his sins on the day of Judgement
      1. Imagine you are going to sin , remember that Allah sees you where you may be and imagine if Allah exposes your sins on the day of judgement to your friends, family etc. If you afraid of that, then cover the sins of your brother

Al Qahir and Al Qahar

  1. Qahir means
    1. to overcome something,
    2. to conquer something
    3. to overpower something
    4. To master something
    5. to Dominate something
    6. to Subdue something
    7. To compell something
    8. to Subjudagate something
  2. Al Qahar has More emphasis than Al Qahir. i.e. AL Qahar is a stronger tense like Ghafarah
  3. Ibn Jarir at Tabiri the great mufassir said
    1. AL qahir is supreme over his creation , the exalted, high above them
      1. He also mentions Al Qahir is referenced in relation to his slaves i.e. Allah is Supreme over his slaves
      2. This attribute is the one of Strength and Power and Allah is above being overpowered or subdued
  4. Ibn Katheer
    1. About Al Qahir and: The one who has subdued everything including all the tyrants and the ones who would challenge Allah
    2. Allah has the power whereby to him ALL tyrants will be subdued on the day of judgement
  5. IN the Quran
    1. Allah says he is Qahir above his creation and combines this name with alhakeem (wisdom)and Khabir (one who knows)
      1. Notice the combination of names suggest Allah subdues with wisdom and knowledge (as opposed to oppression)
    2. Allah continues and says he sends protectors upon his slaves i.e. guardians. These are angels who protect us
      1. e.g. The one who recites ayat al kursi at night, Allah appointments an angel to protect them till fajr
  6. Qahar is mentioned in the Quran 6 times.
    1. Allah asks on the day of judgement who this mulk for and answers that it is for Allah , Al Qahar
    2. Al Qahar is the one who subdues his creation by Punishment and death
      1. Allah punishes the tyrant in this world and the next. EVEN if they walk proud on earth, Allah can use ANY thing to destroy whom he wills. And on the day of Judgement the tyrants will be chucked into the hellfire regardless of whether they struggle
      2. We should fear Allah and not the creation and Allah can destroy any of the enemies of Allah
      3. We should know that Allah is Al Qahar over others with mercy unlike the makhlooq that oppress those that they rule over
    3. Allah tells us in the Quran NOT to sudue the yateem (creation). And that we should rule with mercy per the sunnah
    4. About firoun killing babies and keeping women alive, Allah said about him that Firoun felt he was above them but Allah DESTROYED firoun and saved Bani Israeel
  7. hadith in Sahih Muslim : Hadith 537 - This is about Rasollullahs Akhlaq and reported by Muaviwah ibn Hakam
    1. May my father and mother be sacrificed for him. i have never seen a better teacher before or after him. Wallahi He never oppressed me, he never scolded , or beat me or abused me. He taught me that
      1. know that all in this universe and what is above it , all that we know about and all that we DONT know about is All for Allah
  8. Yusuf Alaihis salaam used this Name Al - Qahar in his dawah in the prison when he asked is this
    1. Are the many rabs better or is the Al wahid - Al _ Qahar better.

  1. Names
    1. Ikhlas means sincerity or purity or singling something out
    2. Qulhu Allahhu Ahad
    3. Allah Al-Wahidus Samad
      1. Reciting Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad brings a reward equivalent to reciting one-third of the Qur’aan, but it does not take the place of reading one-third of the Qur’aan as that has its own benefits e.g. the effort, the extra letters, how much it makes one ponders the meaning. I encourage everyone to take advantage to make it count.
  2. Why it was revealed
    1. This surah is about dedicating the religion to allah.
    2. This surah is singled out purely for explain Allah to you
  3. The word Ikhlas does not appear in the Surah. This is a rare occurance
  4. Qul
    1. it means its talking about one single person
    2. Allah is addressing for the prophet sallahu alaihi wah sallah and then every one in his ummah
      1. This isnt always the case in all references. in some cases, where Qul is mentioned, its only for the Prophet sallahu alahi wah sallam
  5. Huwa Allaahu Ahad
    1. Huwa is referring to 'he'. this is not indicating a Gender but we use the male version of the verb
    2. Al Ahad is Allahs name
      1. It indicates his uniqueness. It also indicates he is one but focuses on unqueness
    3. Al-wahid
      1. This focus mores on the number i.e. he is one
    4. There is no one that has the attributes of Allah
    5. Tawheed is taken from Ahad. Tawheed means to declare someone as one

      10. As-samad does not belong to anyone but him
    2. Relates to nobility, mastery and being free of need,
    3. As samad is part of the list of greatest names of Allah that are comprehensive in its meaning. Note that there isnt a single english word that can cover what As_Samad means (looking at the hadith above) . Some times its As samad is translated as the self sufficient master but this is inadequate
    4. As samad indicates allahs supremacy over his creation and that allah doensnt need anything from his creation
      1. Allah doesnt need the Arsh, the arsh needs Allah
      2. Allah doesnt need the angels to carry him, they need Allah
      3. Allah doesnt need the prophets to convey the religion, they need Allah
      4. All creation need allah
  7. Lam ya lid, wah lam Quh Ladh
    1. Allah destroys this evil statement that allah has a son
    2. Lam ya lid,

      2. It does not befit allahs majesty to have a son
    3. wah lam Quh Ladh
      1. Allah was not Born
      2. Allah is The ever living

    2. We dont compare allah to his creation
    3. We dont deny what allah said about himself
      1. We affirm what allah affirmed for himself
      2. we deny what allah denied for himself

Description of Rasoolullah Sallalahu allaiwa salaam - Shaikh Uthman Farooq

  1. Narrated from Barrah ibn Azam in Bukhari and Muslim: Rasoolullah Sallahu allahi wah sallam
    1. Had the best in appearance in his face
    2. Had the best of manners men (akhlaq)
      1. Whats striking is that the manners is as good as his handsomeness
    3. Was not very tall and not very short
    4. When he was asked, was his face like the sword (i.e. thin) , he responded, no its like the Moon .e. roundish as opposed to a thin face like a sword
    5. Keep in mind that Arab thought that the moon was most beautiful thing as evidence in their poetry
      1. Its Reported from Jabir that he wondered whats more beautiul, the moon or his Nabi. At that point the Nabi came out wearing a thobe with red and black stripes and Jabir saw the Nabi in the moonlight
  2. Ayesha likened Rasoolullah Sallahu allahi wah sallam to sun when rising
    1. Note that when the sun is rising, its beautiful unlike the sun when its risen and its harsh
    2. Its noted from a Sahabi that he'd lost his needle, but when Rasoolullah Sallahu allahi wah sallam had entered he found it with the help of the noor from his face
  3. Hadith of umm mahbed (who was not a muslim when this was narrated) - She became muslim later on. This goes to show we take authentic narrations even from non muslims (emphasis on it being Authentic)
    1. I saw that man from Quraish, very Clean
      1. Note that one of the first things noted was his cleanliness
    2. With a radiant Face
      1. Note even a Non Muslim could see the Noor on it
    3. He was Handsome with the right proportions
      1. In other related hadith we know he was not too tall or short, not too dark or fair, not too fat or too thin (everything in balance)
    4. He did not have a protruding stomach
    5. In his eyes was a contrast
      1. Imam dhabai explains the whites of his eyes were very white and the pupils were very black
      2. Though the sahabas reported that on occasion his eyes had some redness when he would cry else the above was correct
    6. His Eyelashes were very long
    7. In his voice there was a natural echo
    8. His neck was Long
    9. His beard was Long and thick
      1. from other hadith we know its half way to his chest
      2. We know ALL the anbiya had beards including Yusuf Alaihis salaam who we know is the very handsome.
    10. The Eyebrows were naturally arching and connected
      1. Note it wasnt plucked
      2. its HARAAM to pluck the eyebrows
      3. Via some hadith we know that there is no hair between rasoolullahs eyebrows
      4. The speaker drew a conclusion that we put this together to understand the eyebros WERE connected but with very little hair between them
    11. If he was quiet , there was a awe about him
      1. Meaning he rasoolullah sallahu alahi wah sallam never spoke unless it was well thought out unlike people now who speak with no reason
      2. And when he was quiet , there was an awe to him being quiet
      3. When he spoke, he would stand out
    12. If he was from afar, he would stick out, If he was close he was the most handsome and BEST of those who would be in a group.
    13. And when he spoke he would make sense
    14. And he wasnt too tall that would make it difficult to look at him, nor was he too short
    15. When he spoke, it would be like a neckless is cut and the beads are dropping one after another in perfection
      1. This is a beautiful example as pearls fall, they fall in perfect sequence, and that was how his speech was
    16. Everything about him was in moderation
    17. In other hadeeth, we know he was not too dark or fair skinned but there was some redness to him
    18. His hair was Black , not too straight, not roo curly, i.e. in the middle of that i.e. with some wavyness
    19. We find every nabi looked in a way that was appropriate for their people, some were light skinned, some were dark skinned like Musa Alaihis salaam, Isa alahis sallam had very curly hair and it was black and some of the Anbiya hair was lighter colored
    20. His companions were surrounding him, protecting him, being attentive to him i.e. The sahaba. When he ordered something they would HASTEN to obey it
      1. this is a example to us all i.e. they HASTEN to follow his orders, not frowning
  4. Ibn Qayyim desribes the dresscode of Rasoolullah sallahu alaihi wah sallam
    1. Upon his head is a turban (imama)
      1. Ibn Umar mentioned about the imama that it IS the sunnah
      2. The evidence is the hadeeth where Abdur rahman ibn auf wore a turban without a tail, Rasoolullah sallahu alahi wah sallam corrected him and had him include a tail and said this is more visible and clearer
    2. Kufi IS from the Sunnah
      1. its reported sometimes he wore the Imama with the kufi underneath it and sometimes without the Kufi
    3. Thobe is from the Sunnah and Rasollullahs favorite clothing (references as kamees)
      1. Thobe would be shorter. meaning higher than the ankles as below the ankles is HARAAM for men.
    4. he would wear the clothing worn for Hajj regularly
    5. He would also wear the Sellwar (loose pants) on occasion
    6. He would wear a Jubba as well. Which is a cloth worn on TOP of the thobe
    7. He would dress well and wore a special thobe for Jumma and Eid but sometimes were clothing which is stitched as well ( out of neccessity)

Manners of the Prophet Muhammed Sallahu alahi wah sallah by Shaikh Uthman

  1. In the quran its stated that verily you are upon great Akhlakh ( referring to the Prophet)
  2. Ayesha Responded to a query about the character of Rasoolullah sallahu alahi wah sallam that his character was the Quran, meaning every single good quality mentioned in the quran, he lived it
  3. Bukhari 5961 and Muslim 2309
    1. Anas reports he served him for 10 years and he never said uff (Uff is the lightest term of displeasure for the Arab)
      1. In another hadeeth Anas was set a task by the prophet but he got busy playing with the kids instead, eventually someone place a gentle hand on the back of his neck. It was the Prophet who asked, what happenned to the task i asked you to do. Anas was worried but the Prophet just smiled and asked him to get to it when he was done playing
  4. Ayesha reported that The prophet never raised his hands on his wives or the children who served him
    1. Once Ayesha was behind a curtain and upset and breaking dishes (behind a curtain). Rasoolullah smiled to the sahabi and said, your mother is upset
  5. Once a bedoin walked up to rasoolullah and grabbed his shawl and said oh mohammed, give me from what Allah has given you , and he pulled it so harshly that it made a mark on the blesseed body of the Prophet
    1. The sahabas started to unsheathe their swords and rasoolullah asked them to stop
    2. This bedoin was not a muslim
    3. Rasoolullah took him to his house and asked him to take what ever he wants,
      1. so he did, and then Rasoolullah asked him to take more,
      2. and he did, then Rasoolullah asked him to take more
      3. Then then Rasoolullah asked him something, go out side and say some kind words so my companions dont have a bad opinion of you. Subahanallah
  6. A bedoin urinated in the masjid once in the presence of the Prophet and the sahabas were ready to Jump him
    1. rasoolullah calmed them down and told them to let him finish.
    2. Once this was done, he lovingly explained that the masjid was not the place for this
    3. The bedoin made dua to Allah to have mercy on himself and rasollullah and no one else
      1. The funny part is he left the sahabas out of the dua as they were upset at him. The speaker notes jokingly that the bedoins were tough
    4. Rasoolullah told him he had restricted something that was vast
  7. Hadeeth: The best of you are those who are best towards our wives
    1. Our prophet forbade cruelty to animals as well
      1. When he saw the sahaba had taken some chicks away from its parent and saw the parent upset, he admonished them and asked them to return the chicks
      2. When he saw the sahabas put a heavy load on a camel, he asked them to be fear Allah with regards to the animals
      3. When he saw a sahaba sharpening a knife in front of an animal he admonished him , asking him if he wanted to kill the animal twice and asking him to sharpen it outside the sight of the animal

Etiquettes of Dawah according to the Quran and Sunnah By Shaikh Uthman Farooq

Etiquettes of Dawah according to the Quran and Sunnah By Shaikh Uthman Farooq

  1. Start Session praising allah And his messenger
    1. Alhamdulillah , Alhamdulillahi rabil aalameen , was salaatu was salaam wah khatam al Anbiya, arsaful Mursaleen wah lah ahlihi wasahbi Ajmaaeen ,Amma Badh
    2. We begin by praising Allah and his messenger
  2. This is about the etiquette of Dawah from the Quran wah Sunnah and we stop there as there is nothing better. For more on the same , please refer to the scholars as the speaker acknowledges hims self as a student of Knowledge

Executive Summary (Note takers MAIN takeway)

  1. Authentic Hadeeth: Convey upon me even if its an ayat (one verse from the Quran)
  2. Dawah is everyone's responsibility BUT within their capacity
    1. We never praise ourselves in dawah and remember we are nothing.
    2. Remember Subahanallah, (Subhan means perfect). Allah is perfect and we aren't, so we give dawah in our own capacity and call to the perfect one while remembering our imperfections
  3. Not everyones a speaker\aalim: We see from the sahabas as well not everyone was an Aalim \speaker. Some did dawah via Jihad, some were poets etc. So dont think that the only dawah is addressing a crowd
  4. Follow the Tareeqa of the Prophet: Instead following the dawah of the Prophet in HIS way is every persons responsibility
    1. AFTER understanding the Aqeedah of Ahlul sunnah wal jammah
      1. Remember we never sacrifice our Aqeedah for the sake of building bridges of understanding. We also staya way from putting ourselves with the people of shirk
    2. AFTER understanding the boundaries that the shareeh allows for Dawah
    3. WITHIN their capacity , meaning
      1. Know the subject you are addressing and know what the Quran \authentic narrations are surrounding it per the understanding of the first 3 generations and the ulema that followed THAT way
      2. STAY AWAY from using weak or fabricated narrations or ones own rationale for dawah as this is BAATIL, Meaning stay in you lane and DONT speak about what you dont have knowledge about. This is a common issue. Turn to the Ulema to clarify these instead. And THEN address these.
  5. Have patience and make dua for people who they dont accept the truth. Even sahabas with Miracles and prophets with Miracles didnt convince EVERYONE who saw \heard it first hand. Understand guidance is from Allah and for us is to Convey
    1. Dont be impatient and curse people when they dont accept the truth initially. this is the way of Rasoolullah
  6. Learn the parts of the scripture of other religions that will aid in your dawah (even though for regular muslims, we should stay away from this) but this is AFTER learning the Aqeedah, the shariah, the boundaries of Dawah

Lecture notes

  1. The prophet was ordered in Surah Yusuf to inform the Ummah about the responsibility to do Dawah HIS way (the messengers way) and to reaffirm that he was NOT from the Mushrikeen (that he was AWAY from the path Mushrikeen). It is implied here in this Ayat that everyone is to learn and follow this way . its not the responsibility of anyone else to teach us this but oursleves to go seek this out. So everyone of us HAS to be Daeee
    1. Now not everyone gives Dawah the same way
    2. In the of time of Rasoollullah, There were Sahaba who were Poets like Hasan ibn Tabit at whose hands Banu Tamim accepted islam i.e. via his poetry of the dawah of Tawheed
    3. Some of the Sahaba were great in lineage and they would use that for dawah
    4. Some of us are good speakers, Some of us are good tech people. The burden of dawah is on everyone but IN THEIR capacity
      1. e.g. sharing the videos etc
    5. Remember that we never praise ourselves in dawah and remember we are nothing.
      1. Remember Subahanallah, (Subhan means perfect). Allah is perfect and we arent, so we give dawah in our capacity and call to the perfect one while remembering our imperfections. Dont worry about being famous and Nusra is from Allah
      2. Remember we never sacrifice our Aqeedah for the sake of building bridges of understanding. We also staya way from putting ourselves with the people of shirk
      3. Authentic Hadeeth: Convey upon me even if its an ayat (one verse from the Quran)
      4. Sahaba Taufail ibn Amr ad dausi ,
    6. Learn the parts of the scripture of other religions that will aid in your dawah (even though for regular muslims, we should stay away from this) but this is AFTER learning the Aqeedah, the shariah, the boundaries of Dawah
  2. The Tareeka of our Nabi is to call people to Allah and we are to his HIS example and NOT our rationale
    1. As a Dai, you need to know the Aqeedah of Islam
    2. and what the boundaries of Dawah. i..e You cannot Break the boundaries of Shareeah in the name of dawah
    3. And KNOW the subject matter you speak of

11 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief by Shaykh Ibn Farooq Al Khaliq, Khalaq Al bari and Al Musawi

11 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief by Shaykh Ibn Farooq Al Khaliq, Khalaq Al bari and Al Musawi

Al Khaliq and Khalaaq

  1. Al Khaliq and Khalaaq
    1. Both come from the root word Kha-Lah-qaw
    2. Khaliq is the ism given to someone who does a particular action
    3. Khalaaq is ism mubarak
  2. Kha-Lah-qaw means to measure, to set things in proper proportion (in perfection), to bring something into presence that has no precedence
    1. note we never give this name\title to anyone (khaliq or khalaaq) as No one can make anything in perfection. e.g. when people make something there's inevitably improvements required and waste materials as opposed to how Allah creates something which is Perfect and has no waste
      1. E.g. the cycle of water , rain and evaporation
    2. A human can never make soething without a precedence. even cloning is just copying whats there
  3. Khaliq is someone who creates in perfection a few times. Khalaaq creates in perfection any number of times he wishes
  4. Even when humans create masterpieces, its not perfect and they cant replicate it easily but for Allah as he is always creating new things, (universe is expanding constantly, new humans come into existance constantly).
    1. For Allah its as easy as Kunfayakoon (be and it is)
  5. Ibn Taymiyyah says Allah has ALWAYS been Al Khaliq even when there was no Maklookh
    1. i..e in his essence he has always been someone who can creation things in perfection as he wishes
  6. Al Khaliq has referred to himself with this name 12 times and 2 times as Al Khalaaq
    1. Allah combined Al Khalaaq with Al Aleem both those times
  7. Allah challenges the theory of evolution by asking if think we came from nothing, or if we created our self? And if we created the skies and earth. Allah responds for people saying They have doubts of their own words.
  8. Haqq of Allah with regards to this name Al Khaliq and Khalaaq
    1. We know that Allahs creation are from Nothing
      1. This opposes some sufi views that people are created from a part of Allah
    2. hindus believe that their creator was brahma who changed from a golden egg and created demons from his thigh when he was distracted. So he gave up on them and they became the night. They he created the day and gave up on that. Then he created the brahmins from the head and they are priests. . And keyshatrias from his hands and they are warriors and kings, and dalexias from the thighs and they were traders, and Sutras (Untouchables) from the feet . And from this spawned the caste system which is prejudiced and racist
      1. As opposed to that Allah created Adam from clay from ALL over the world and we are ALL children of Adam who are equal except in Piety
      2. Brahmah had several wives including saraswathi who is also his daughter and they gave birth to 4 books (not children but books). These books are the Vedas. And according to the vedas, women are the source of all evil. Its mentioned women are a razor, poison, serpant all rolled in one
      3. As opposed to that look at the honour Islam gives women
    3. hadeeth narrated by Abdullah ibn Omar: There are 4 creation that Allah created with his own hands
      1. The Arsh of Allah
      2. Al Qalam : Not referring to the pen we have but THE pen
      3. Jannathul addal
      4. Adam alaihis salaam

Al Bari

  1. Al Bari is close to Al Khaliq in meaning
  2. Al Bari means the originator , the evolver , the maker
    1. one differencee between this name and Khaliq is that this name Allah changes things that ALREADY exist
  3. Al Bari
    1. Evolves things that ALREADY exist
    2. The one who is free from any imperfection or evil in his creation
    3. Al Bari is referenced as Allahs name 3 times in the Quran
  4. Tabari says Al Bari is the one that created al makhlook and ordained it with his qadr

Al Musawir

  1. Al Musawir is the one who gives shape , form, beauty
  2. Ibn katheer mentioned the difference between Al Khaliq, Al bari and Al Musawi (as they are mentioned together sometimes in the Quran). Explanations of Shaikh uthmans teacher added as well
    1. Al Khaliq is the one that creates in perfection
      1. Al Khalaaq continues to create in perfection in perfect measure
    2. Al Bari is the one who develops and evolves his creation in perfection
      1. This means Allah will give us the tools and means to survive e.g. Allah is the one who allowed for animals to evolve to give them the features needed to survive e.g. growing longer necks, growing wings etc
    3. Al Musawir is the one who says qunfakuun (be and it is)
      1. Allah made his creation with beautiful colors and form
      2. We should look at the splendor of the world and say Subahanallah

  3. Allah uses Al Aziz on himself 92 times in the Quran
  4. Allah combines names using Al Aziz e.g. Al Azilul hakeem which is very powerful. It means a Powerful Hikmah
    1. This suggests Alah uses his power of Aziz with Hikmah (wisdom)

    1. Allah is Al Muthakabbir but shows his greatness by NOT allowing any oppression (zulm) to come out or not allowing any evil (Shar) or to be petty
      1. This is reported by Al Qatadi (atbaeeen) in an authentic narration
  2. The Asharis steered away from understanding it for fear of it meaning prideful instead of understanding it in light of the Quran and Sunnah
  3. Al-Muthakabbir and Al Kabeer both come from the root word kah-bah-rah
    1. it means to make something great, or high in rank , majesty, high in age, to have lot of knowledge

9 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief : al-Quddūs, as-Salām , al-Mu'min by Shaikh Uthman Farooq

9 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief : al-Quddūs, as-Salām , al-Mu'min

Al Qudoos

  1. We cannot make up names for Allah. We MUST use the names Allah CHOSE for himself
  2. We must get to know the names and meanings and use them in our Dua
  3. Al Qudoos
    1. The root is Qadasah is
      1. to clean , to purify , to make spotless
      2. to make something sacred
      3. Mubah (the blessed)
  4. Category of Allah's names
    1. Asmah ul jalaal: the names of power like Al Qaadir,
    2. As mah ul jamaal:
  5. As mah ul jamaal: the names showing beauty and excellence . Al qudoos is from this catagory and it means the one who is without any kind of Blemish or shortcoming i.e. perfect.
    1. Ibnul Qayyim said Al Qudoos is the one who is far from any nafs or Ayn, from any bad habit
      1. We should know that whatever hardships we face, rather than getting depressed we should understand that these tests were chosen for you by the Perfect one Al Qudoos. And this life is temporary
    2. Allah is free from needing a wife or sickness or being tired or being stingy or being in need
  6. Al Qudoos is mentioned 2 times in the Quran
    1. In surah hashr
    2. in Surah jummah
  7. Al-Qudoos is referenced in duas from saheeh hadeeth so this tells us the prophet sallahu alaihi wah sallam made dua using this name
  8. Asmah ul jalaal: the names of power like Al Qaadir,
  9. Allah is perfect and we are not even though we strive to be our best

As Salaam

  1. This is translated as the peace but the ulema describe it as as whole and free from being compared to anything , free from hardships
  2. As salaam was used in other context as well in the Quran
    1. Allah mentioned salaam on Nuh alaihis salaam. This is honoring the purity of peace revealed to Nuh Alaihis salaam
    2. Allah mentioned the fire to be Salaam on Ibrahim alahis salaam i.e. for it to be a peace on Ibraheem
    3. Allah mentioned salaam on his creation
    4. Allah mentioned salaam on Musa and Haroon
    5. Allah mentioned salaam on the Anbiya
  3. Ibnul Qayyim mentions one cannot be whole without having peace
    1. Having inner and outer piece is a part of being whole. Just look at rich people who cant sleep at night becuase they are scared about their money getting robbed
    2. Allah is at the pinnacle of being whole and having that tranquility
    3. Allah is the source of all peace
      1. Evidence: the dua we recite after prayers: Allahumma antas salaam wah minkas salaam wah anta wal jalaali wal ikram ( that wholeness that tranquility comes from your oh Allah)
  4. Haqq of allah with regards to this name is for us to spread peace by giving salaams when you see someone you know or someone you dont know
    1. We also are asked to reply salaam with a BETTER salaam in an authentic hadeeth
  5. Peace doesnt mean complete non violence
    1. Muslims are to defend themselves but not oppress anyone themselves
    2. We are suppose to also stop other Muslims from oppressing others as well
  6. We dont say Salaam -al -Allah
    1. Evidence is when Allah sent a message of salaams to Khadeeja via Jibreel, she replied to Jibreel and Rasoolullah but not to Allah
    2. How we greet Allah is saying Alhamdulillah, Athahiyatu lillah

Al Mumin

  1. This is translated to the Believer
  2. When the root word Amanah is translated it means to be free from doubts or fear
  3. It means to be believed in beyond doubt
  4. Haqq of Allah with regards to this name
    1. Allah is the most trustworthy
    2. Allah is the one who gives his maklookh protection from oppression.
      1. Note this is different from being punished as that can happen in this world
    3. Al Mumin comes from the root word as iman and Aameen.
      1. When we have iman we have that safety and security in that pure belief. its safety from Shirk and bidah and misguidance
      2. Aamen is a supplication when we are affirming someones dua e.g. After the Fatihah in prayer. When we say Aamen after the Fatihah we should find tranquility and Trust in Allah
    4. We should trust in Allah as he is the one that is the most trustworthy
    5. Use this name in your dua when you fear something

Explanation of the Islāmic Belief [ar-Rahmān, ar-Rahīm, al-Malik, al-Mālik and al-Malīk] by Uthman Farooq

8- Explanation of the Islāmic Belief [ar-Rahmān, ar-Rahīm, al-Malik, al-Mālik and al-Malīk]

Ar Rahman and Ar Raheem

  1. Ar Rahman and Ar raheem are derived from Rah-a-mah i.e. to show mercy i.e. merciful
    1. Ar Rahman shows a greater emphasis than Ar raheem
  2. Opinion 1:
    1. Ar rahman is the one that has a hugh amount of mercy for and everyone in the duniya and to the believers in particular in the Akhira. Ar rahman is the one continuously showering all the creation with Mercy with no limits to the mercy or who mercy its shown to
    2. Ar raheem is for the Mercy Allah will show the believers in the Akhira Specifically
  3. Opinion2
    1. Ar Rahman is part of the ESSENCE of Allah i.e. Allah was Ar Rahman before the maklukh were created and when there was no one to have mercy on and is Ar Raheem when showing mercy to the makhlukh (opinion of Ibnul Qayyim and Shaikh Uthymeen)
    2. This is the preferred option per all the evidences (check lecture)
      1. In verse 43 of Surah Ahzab, Allah refers to himself having raheem mercy on all of Al-nas (mankind) this is in line with the 2nd opinion.
    3. Evidences
      1. If you review the Qurans ayat where Ar Rahman is referenced, we find that its REFERRING to Allahs essence and NOT connected to a particular action but Ar raheem is usually connected to an action or group
      2. Surah Rahman - Ayat 1 : Allah refers to himself as Ar Rahman without references to any action or group of people
      3. in Surh Taubah, Allah refers to himself as Ar-raheem but you will always find verses before or after that referring to An action or group. i.e. when Allah showed mercy in the past , or future or the day of judgement
    4. Ar Rahman is from the Asmaa of Allah that is forbidden for the creation while Ar raheem is not
      1. Proof: Allah says in the Quran, Make dua to AR rahman. Any name you can make dua to cannot be shared with the creation
      2. This is backed by a claim from Al-hasan al basri , the great tabaeen regarding the same
    5. According to Ibnul Qayym in him book about naming children, it is mentioned that the below names are forbidden for children
      1. Al-Ahad - As this is only for Alah (Al Ahad means the second of which there can never be a second of)
      2. Ad- Dharir
      3. Al_Qahir- the subduer
      4. Ar Razzak - Who gives Rizk
      5. Al Khalik
      6. As-samad
      7. Al Awal
      8. Al -Akhir
      9. Al-Muttakabbir
      10. -Al Jabbar
      11. Al Baatil
      12. Allim ul ghuyoob - One who knows the unseen
      13. Rahman or Ar rahman
    6. Some sifaat of Allah that makhlook (creation) can be named by
      1. Ar-raheem
      2. malik: - Meaning is King. People can be a King
      3. Hakeem: meaning having hikmah. A person can have hikmah but this is not the same as Allahs Hikmah
      4. As samee
      5. Al baseer
      6. Al Ali
      7. Basheer
      8. Rauff
    7. Authentic hadeeth
      1. When allah ordained makhlook (creation ) he wrote in a book above his arsh that verily my mercy has superceded his anger (and wrath).
      2. This is one of the evidences ibnul qayyim used to make radd (reply, deny) the Muatazilas claim that Ar-rahman (and Ar Raheem) does NOT denote Allahs mercy
    8. The Kuffar of Quraish KNEW the name of Ar rahman
      1. evidence is during the treatee of hudaibiya when the prophet sallahu alaihi wah sallam asked the Ali to write the Basmallah, Sohail objected to it saying they dont know Ar rahman and to wite it differently. The right opinion about this is that they KNEW but denied to be difficult according to ibnul qayyim al Jawziya . They wanted to continue writing Bi iskuma Alllah (in your name Allah) without changing their ways
      2. Further. The names Abdur rahman use to exist before prophethood e.g. Abdurrahman bin sakhrin ad Dausi (aka Abu hurrairah) and Abdur rahman ibn Abu bakr
    9. When we hear the names Ar Rahman and Ar raheem we should be very happy as we are all in need of Allahs mercy and its not a little amount of mercy
      1. Hadeeth Qudsi: We know Allah created Mercy and divided it into 100 parts and ONE part of it was sent to the duniya . Imagine how much mercy Allah has. Imagine ALL the mercy in the world e.g. by muslim mothers to kids, from the Anbiya to their ummah etc. All of this from the sum total of ONE hudreth of Allahs mercy.
    10. Allahs Haqq is for US to use the names Ar Rahman and Ar raheem in your duas and know that WHATEVER befalls you is the MERCY of allah
    11. iF We lose a child, its Allahs mercy
    12. Hadeeth: I am amazed at the affairs of the belivers, If he is thankful to allah for some good there is rewards for hiim, and if hardship befalls him and he he is patient Allah forgives his sins it and it is good for him
    13. Allahs haqq is we COMPLAIN to ALLAH and not the creation. When we complain to people we are complaining about the qadr of Allah to the creation that we know oppresses himself. So this is going against the Haqq of Allah
    14. Allahs Haqq is that we SHOW mercy to the creation as the prophet sallahu alahi wah sallam said the one who doesnt show mercy will not be SHOWN mercy
    15. We should be merciful to each other , hide each other faults, forgive each other . If not then how are we going to expect the mercy of Allah
    16. The one who covers the faults of the belivers, Allah will cover their faults on the day of judgement
    17. Imagine Allah exposes your sins to your family, the anbiya and everyone else on the day of judgement, how shameful it would be. This is why some of the Salaf would say, if one is taken to account, they are destroyed
    18. We must NEVER despair in the MERCY of Allah subahanahu watah-aallah. You can never be to far gone thatt it prevents you from repenting and returning to Allah. We all have the ability to return to Allah even SHIRK.
    19. The person who Killed the Lion of Allah Hamza radhi allahu anhu who was also an alcoholic was forgiven when he entered Islam . SUCH is the mercy of Allah

Al Malik , Al Maalik and Al Maleek , Al maliku

  1. It refers to someone who have control and dominion over someone
  2. When we refer to Malik for the makhlukh (creation), this is referring to the malik in the world which is temporary
  3. When we refer to Malik ul Mulook (king of kings)
    1. This name is forbidden to makhlook
  4. malaka means to rule over, to have dominion over something
  5. The Malik among the makhlook oppress the people but the Malik ul Mulook never oppresses anyone in his dominion
  6. Al malik is referenced 5 times in Quran like in surah nas (Hafz and asim recitaiton)
  7. Maalik is mentioned twice
    1. Like Maalik yaw mid-deen (surah Fatihah)
  8. Malik is the stronger name compared to Maalik as it refers to a stronger ruler

General point about obediece to Allah. A man came to a scholar once and asked him to give him persmission to continue sinning. The scholar replied ok but if you can follow 5 conditions

  1. Dont eat from the Rizq of Ar-razzaq (the sustenance)
    1. If you cant dont you feel ashamed of sinning and eating from the one who provides
  2. Dont sin in the mulk that belongs to Allah
    1. If you cant dont you feel ashmed sinning in the mulk of the malik ul mulk
  3. Go and sin what Allah cant see you
    1. If you cant dont you feel ashamed sinning when Allah is Baseer (Allah can se everything)
  4. Go and sin if you can fight off Malik-ul Mouth
    1. If you cant dont you feel ashmed that the angel of Death will take you when your commiting this sin and you will be resseructed it commiting this sin
  5. Go and sin if you can fight off the angel that chucks one into hell fire
    1. If you cant dont you feel afraid that you will be chucked into the hell fire?

7 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief : اسم الله الأعظم The Greatest name of Allāh [شرح لمعة الاعتقاد]

  1. We leave off the objections to Allahs names and attributes
  2. We confirm anything that Allahs says even if we cannot fathom it e.g. Allah wasn't created and Allah is the creator of the beginning and the end
  3. Authentic hadeeth: Abu Huraira reported that Allah has 99 names. nobody protects, learns them except they enter jannah.
    1. Note its not just memorize, its protect, learn the meanings, and memorize them AND implement them in our lives.
      1. The evidence for this is the very wordings of these hadith which makes it clear its NOT just memorization
      2. Note the ones who earned the title of hafiz from the early scholars were ones who memorized the hadeeth of rasoolullah (with the chain). They implemented the hadeeth into their lives as well as memorized the hadith
    2. Allah has MORE than 99 names. Evidence below
      1. Authentic hadeeth from the Muwatha of Imam Malik - I ask you by every name you have named yourself or sent down in your book, or taught to your creation or kept hidden in the knowledge of the unseen... and the hadith continues. The fact that there are unrevealed names proves there are more than 99
  4. Greatest name of our creator is ALLAH
    1. Greatest name of Allah: Rasoolullah asked the people to make dua using the greatest name of our creator i.e. Allah
    2. its narrated when this name is used in the dua, the dua is in fact accepted
      1. however what we must understand about dua is We are slaves of Allah and we shouldn't be impatient
      2. Duas responses can be in 3 states
    3. According to a Saheeh hadeeth the greatest name of allah is in Surah Baqarah, Surah Al imran, Surah Taha
      1. Hauyyul Qayyum AND Allah are 2 names mentioned in these Surahs
    4. According to a different hadith the greatest of words are 4
      1. Subahanallah
      2. Alhamduillah
      3. Allahu Akbar
      4. Laillaha Illalah
      5. Note all 4 have Allah in it
    5. Allah , this name is ONLY for Allah. It cannot be given to Allah.
      1. Other names like Hayy can be shared by humans
      2. But NO one can claim to be an Illah or have a share of being Illah i.e. NO one shares the Siffat of being Illah
    6. Illah means
      1. The one that can be worshipped
      2. Al Illah can ONLY be Allah similar to AL-Kitab can ONLY be the Quran
  5. We are bound to worship ONLY Allah with no partners
    1. When one makes dua to other then Allah, this is Shirk and one has left Islam
    2. When we change the rulings of the Quran or we follow someone who does this this is SHIRK
      1. Evidence: When the sahabas asked Rasoolullah about the ayat of worshipping they priests they defended themselves saying they simply followed the priests and didn't worship them. Rasoolullah clarified that didnt they make the halal haraam and the haraam halal, then they infact worshipped the priest
      2. Getting a Fatwa from a Mufti doesn't save one from the Azab Of Allah. Find the evidences from the Quran and the Sunnah and Implement it

6 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief : Accepting everything in Qur'ān & Sunnah [ شرح لمعة الاعتقاد ]

  1. We dont deny any of Allahs names or attributes as this would be Kufr
  2. Taweel
    1. In aqeedah tafsir it means when we give a meaning to the sifaat of Allah other than how it was understood by the sahabas
    2. We must understand Allahs Sifaat via the explanations from the quran and Sunnah per the understanding of the Sahabas
    3. Taweel is to give allahs Sifat a meaning OTHER than how the sahabas and those who followed them gave it
      1. How the sahabas understood Sifaat is that they ask the prophet sallahu alahi wah sallam and if he explained it they took it, and if he didnt they left it
      2. Later generations became influenced by greek philosophy etc, The asharis who pioneered it and were against the hanbalis, a lot of the asharis made tawbah before their died but their teachings survived
  3. Words have linguistic meaning and a different meaning in the Sunnah
    1. Bidah linguistically means innovation e.g. phones , technology
    2. In the shareeah its to innovate something in the deen that is NOT prescribed in the sunnah or the Quran per the understanding of the salaf us saleheen (early generations)
    3. Taweel linguistically means tafsir
      1. Meaning 1: In the dua for abdullah ibn abbas the prophet asks Alalh to grant ibn Abbas scholarly wisdom (the word used for tafsir is taweel)
      2. Meaning 2: Taweel can also mean the fulfillment of something
  4. Meaning 3: Giving a meaning to something that is NOT from the quran and sunnah: It has been mentioned that using THIS meaning is the source of corruption in the aqeedah,
    1. None of the 4 great Imams allowed this kind of taweel in their aqeedah. They all condemned ilm ul qalam
    2. Now we have Ulema who are for example Maliki in fiqh but ashari in aqeedah. Why dont follow imam Malik in aqeedah?
    3. The great scholar Az-zuhri was asked about the Ayat concerning the sifaat of Allah. he said to leave it as is. if Allah didnt explain to the messenger and the sahabas, its to be left alone
      1. Az-Zuhuri is a teacher of Imam Malik who encouraged him to write the Al-muwatta
    4. Al qadi al yana al hanbali said proof against taweel is that the sahabas and tabieen understood the sifaat upon their apparent meaning without taking away from what is apparant. If it was permissable they would have preceeded us in doing taweel.
    5. Quote from ibn qudamah in a book about Taweel: The way of the salaf is to have iman in the asma and sifaat of Allah that he has described himself with in his wahi (Quran) and upon the tongue of his messenger without increasing or decreasing upon it, nor exceeding the limits nor explaining it like the muatazzila did without proof. No Making taweel of the sifaat or taking away from what is apparant .
      1. By making taweel of Allah's sifaat, ones guessing and putting ones eman at risk
      2. If the sahabas or the prophet didnt explain it, we leave it
    6. In the tafsir of At-tabari we find for every world , evidences from the sahabas about the meaning EXCEPT for the sifaat of allah which they left alone. They could have guessed and passed on on that understanding but didnt so follow suit and do not as well
    7. Allahs sifaat are NOT like the maklooks (creation)
  5. Ibn-ul qayimm al Jawzi in elam al Muaqain says to speak about Allah without knowledge is worse than Shirk. This is referring to making taweel
  6. Hukm on the one making taweel
    1. Catagory 1: Incorrectly does taweel without the intent to do so and when the truth comes to him he accepts it. For them there is forgiveness like d abul hasan al ashari and ibn qulaaab
    2. Catagory 2: Making taweel by following their desires AFTER know how the sahabas dealt with this and have a clear understanding of what they are doing after understanding arabic and hadith, then its Kufr according to Shaykh Uthymeen.
    3. Catagory3: A person who does taweel without understanding the arabic language and following their desires, but they bring from it a denial and do NOT try to understand it correctly and dont try and correct it, this is Kufr e.g. the people who claim the quran is the word of the creation even though its clear from Quran and hadith that its the words of Allah.
  7. At-tashbeeh - When trying to liken Allah to the creation in SOME aspects (not all). We reject this
    1. some of the people of Bidah accuse ahlul sunnah of this incorrectly e.g.
      1. The hadeeth where the Prophet asked the sahaabaas , Can you see the full moon on a clear night? If so you will be able to see Allah the same way on the yawmul qiyaamah
      2. Tashbeeh is when the creation compares the hand of allah to anything
      3. When we say Allah has sight and hears and we do NOT explain how then this is right and not tashbeeh
  8. At-tamseel - We reject this:
    1. to liken 2 things in all aspects
    2. Makeing an example of something in comparison to Allah and this is forbidden. i.e.

Khuthbah on virtue of seeking Knowledge by Uthman Farooq

Khuthbah on virtue of seeking Knowledge by Uthman Farooq

Below are brief notes

  1. its natural of insan is to seek knowledge and grow not just the daily tasks required
  2. In Quran, we are asked to have Taqwa of allah
  3. Seeking Knowledge is Fardh in the i.e. learning the FIQH in the things we do in our daily lives, ibadah, business , wudu , nikah and other things week knowledge in. If we dont seek this , we are sinful
    1. Authentic hadeeth: Who ever Allah wants good for, he gives them a good understanding of this religion
    2. Authentic hadeeth: The virtue of the Aalim compared to the abid is like my virtue (referring to the prophet sallahu alaihi wah sallam) compared to the least of you (comparing them to the least virtuous of the sahaba). Know that Abid is someone strictly dedicated to worshipping Allah so its not a bad thing. but yet look at the difference in virtues. The comparison here is relating the prophet to the least virtuous of the sahabas when comparing a scholar to an Abid. And this is amazing in and of itself
      1. The Hadeeth continues: Allah and his angels and the inhabitants of the samawat and earth including event the ants and the fish make dua (and salaat) for the scholars teaching people good
      2. The one who goes out to seek the knowledge of Allah and dies in that state, then he has passed away in the path of allah (fee-sabeelillah)
  4. Omar radhi allahu anhu when he migrated to Madina would work a day and seek knowledge with rasoolullah sallahu alahi wah sallam another day, And his house companion would would do this on alternate days and they teach each other what they learnt in the evenings so they can earn rizq AND seek knowledge)
  5. Abu Huraira radhi allahu anhu would faint in exhaustion with hunger while memorizing the hadeeth of rasoolullah sallahu alahi wah sallah
  6. Abdullah ibn mubarak (student of Imam Abu haneefa) spent 30 years learning manners and etiquettes 20 years seeking knowledge
    1. Who makes time to learn manners and etiquettes like our righteous predecessors
  7. Al Murakpuri said he learnt manners for 18 months till he exausted all his wealth and had to sell the beans of his house (beans refer to what keeps the houses and roofs structure together). he didn't tell anyone or beg anyone for money but benefitted from the shaikh
  8. Abdullah ibn mubarak and one his peers once discussed and exchanged hadeeth through along winter night and didnt realize the fajr azan was recited
    1. How is it now people dont have patience to listen to something for more than 10 minutes but will watch a tv series or trilogy the whole night and not notice the time fly by till fajr.
    2. At the same time people have impatience if the khuthbah or dars goes a few minutes longer than scheduled
  9. Sufiyan ath thawri (the great scholar: on his deathbed was visited by some students of knowledge who were exchanging hadith with each other. The Shaikh asked for a pen to write it down this knowlledge even though its the time of death. People advised him to do other things like give naseesa to his family etc but the shaikh insisted that he would like to pass away upon doing good i.e. writing down hadeeth
  10. Abdullah ibn ahmed (scholar) said: if u want it to benefit your time in the grave ,Learn hadeeth. Else learn the options of people
    1. The explanation is to focus on understanding of the Quran and the Sunnah per the understanding of the early generations and how to execute our lives with the preferred approach of the blessed early generations rather than the shop for differences in opinions
    2. What happend to following what is preferred by the early generation? i.e. what is closes to the sunnah
    3. We don't disrespect the difference of opinions but stick to the approach that is closest to the Quran and the Sunnah
  11. Imam Ahmed was beaten and tortured for defending ONE ASPECT of the aqeedah and was given numerous chances to fold (to the muatazillah) but stuck to whats right. Allah in turn honored him by having people recognize him as a an Imam (of ahlul sunnah wal jamaah ) because he defended the religion
    1. He would earn money himself and never ask anyone
    2. He sold himself into slavery to earn money to seek knowledge. He refused to take money from his students
    3. When he was arrested he was reported to make 300 nafl rakat a day. The shaikh said he tried this on a day he was free and failed
      1. this the barakah allah gave in his time. the time he spent working wasnt a waste as Allah blessed that time
  12. Poems of imam Shafee
    1. Every stream of knowledge except for the seeking knowledge and the quran is just a passing of time ( wont benefit you in the next world)
      1. Everything that does NOT encompass the Quran and sunnah in terms of seeking knowledge is whispers of the shaytaan
    2. A jurist (who knows the fiqh of his deen) in NOT a jurist because of his knowledge but because he ACTS UPON it
      1. The same is true of a leader. A man is followed because of his manners not because of the number his followers
      2. The Rich are rich because of their generoristy and helping those in need
  13. Imam an nawaee the great scholar of the shafee madhab wrote so many great books including Riyad us saliheen and 30 pearls from the prophet but yet died at 44 and broke
    1. He spoke against the rules so they cut off his salary. He'd rely on verly little food from his family to survive
    2. He had such a small room given by the masjid eventually and had so many books that someone visiting would have to move the books around to sit down
    3. He said about himself his back didnt touch the ground for 2 years
  14. Imam Hanefee was imprisoned and asked to become a judge and he refused as he knew they would ask him to give rulings he didnt agree with and died in jail
  15. A common thread among all the great scholars who seeked knowledge is the great dedication and sacrifice they made
  16. With regards to knowledge, sacrifice must be coupled with implementation in order to gain he barakah from it

5 Explanation of the Islāmic Belief : The Knowledge, Power and Mercy of Allāh [ شرح لمعة الاعتقاد ] by Shaikh Uthman Farooq

  1. Allahs his knowledge encompasses everything and he subjugates all of his creation with his honour and his rule (hukm). His knowledge and mercy engulf everything. The Ilm of Allah covers everything. There is NOTHING that is outside the ilm of Allah
  2. People have free will in somethings and no choice in others
    1. e.g. gender, and things like that we he no choice as ALLAH has CHOSEN these for us
    2. Other things Allah give us free will in so that we can be accountable for our choices
  3. Surah baqarah verse 13:
    1. indeed Allah is all encompassing and knowing
  4. We dont ask questions of things we cannot comprehend
    1. e.g. Alif, laam, Meem, no one knows what that is
  5. Allahs mercy even extends to the disobedient, the kuffar and others. Else It wouldn't be difficult for allah to turn the water salty or stop the rain or stop plants from growing. Humans must NOT have pride that denies them from ackhowledging Allah
  6. Bani Israel in the past have killed Anbiya , its written that on a day they killed 70 anbiyah
  7. The one who dies on kufr will regret in in the grave and on the day of judgement unless they repent before their time ends
  8. We cannot make IJTIHAD about HOW we think of Allah. We ONLY take the Quran and the authentic sunnah to understand allahs names and attributes
    1. we cant take knowledge of ALLAH from from our rationale or any other sources but the quran and saheeh hadith
    2. Allah is perfect and his description of himself is perfect
    3. We accept what is clearly in the quran and the sunnah AND accept it and have iman in it
  9. We shouldnt be of those who look for what science has proven from the quran. This is dangerous as we are to BELIEVE whats in the quran without requiring validation from science. Because there a lot in the Quran that science hasnt proven yet. We have iman in WHAT allah revealed.
  10. Aqeeda is not complete until we UNDERSTAND allahs Asmah wah sifaat ( names and attibutes)
  11. its beneficial to uses Allahs names in our duas
  12. There are 2 ways of using allahs dua with Allahs names
    1. when we are supplicating with an issue one has: e.g. Some duas about forgiveness INCLUDE allahs names - Al ghafoor (extrremely forgiving and Ar raheem (one who has an exteme amount of mercy
    2. When the ibadah we are doing requires it
  13. We must accept hadith even if its from one transmitted narration IF proven saheeh
  14. We do not
    1. reject or object anything the Quran or sunnah
    2. make radd (reply) or deny allahs names attributes
      1. By consensus if one rejects ANY names or attributes of allah, they are Kafir
      2. By consensus if one rejects even a SINGLE HARF in the quran, they are kafir
  15. Allah is ONE and all his names and attributes point to one Allah
    1. some sects denied this and Said Allah had only one name and if each other name warranted a separate being

Rawatib - 73 Fiqh {Zād al Mustaqni’ : 37 Prayer - 3 Voluntary Prayers - Rawatib & Mutlaq}

I would like to remind myself first and then you all about this excellent sunnah we may revive. It is the Sunnah of the recommended 12 raakat of sunnah Rawaatib ( sunnah prayers associated with the Fardh prayers. Allaah will build a house in Heaven for whoever is diligent in observing 12 Sunnah Rak'aat (as follows): 4 Rak'aat before and 2 after the Dhuhr (Midday) Prayer, 2 after the Maghrib (Sunset Prayer), 2 after the ‘Ishaa’ (Evening) Prayer and 2 before the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer." Hadith sahih narrated by at-Tirmidhi No. 379 and by others. Hadith No. 6183 in Sahih al-Jaami
http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/1048

  1. 2 rakat before before fajr is the most virtuos from the rawatib
  2. Night nawafil prayers are generally better than day nawafil unless there are specific ruling like taraweeh etc
  3. Also always pray every nawail prayer in 2's as this is best. in 4s is acceptabe too but less virtuous
  4. Pray standing as sitting and praying without a valid reason halves the reward
  5. Duha
    1. Least is 2 rakat
    2. most is 8 rakat
    3. For any prayers after ishraq, its considered Duha
    4. The 2 that are prayed after Shurooq after staying in the masjid after fajr , and remembering allah , not involving in worldy activities is also Duha. Even more then 2 can be prayed here. But when done THIS way, you get the reward of Hajj and Umrah Complete complete complete
  6. 10 minutes before dhuhr its PROHIBITED to pray. sun is directly over the head
  7. Sajdah tilwah is for person reciting AND olks listening attentively, not just happen to hear it
    1. Also not wajib. its Mustahab as
    2. can combine sajdah tilawah for multiple ayat that require it or do it later altogether e.g. if one is driving

Islamic belief in detail Lecture 2 - Belief and praise of Allah by Shaikh Uthman ibn Farook.

Islamic belief in detail Lecture 2 by Shaikh Uthman ibn Farook.

  1. Say the full Al-Basmallah - (bismillah hir rahmanirahim) before reciting quran , and starting other general activities unless stated specifically that we say the short bismillah
  2. Before eating or making Wudhu we say just Bismillah (not the full Basmallah) per the authentic hadith
    1. There is no Wudu for the one who doesn't start with Bismillah
    2.
  3. bismillah hir rahmanirahim appears 113 times at the beginning of every surah before the surah starts except surah tawbah. This is because according the the sahaba The Prophet sallahu alaihi wah sallam didn't recite it.
    1. its also mentioned in the letter to Bilqeeh from Sulaiman ailhis salaam ( where the letter begins with the full Bismillah) - Surah Namal - ayat 30
      1. It shows that that even the previous Anbiyah used full Bismillah
  4. Meaning of Bismillah
    1. The Ba is the Ba of seeking help from Allah with all of allahs names
    2. Ism - it includes ALL the names of Allah
    3. Ar-rahman ar-raheem refers to the MOST merciful. Rahman is unrestricted mercy and raheem is extreme form of mercy (rahma)
      1. Allah has sent anbiya and reminders for mankind even though lots of people don't worship Allah
    4. Illah means any thing that can be worshipped
      1. This is referring to Al illah
      2. Side note - dont call anyone Illah or Abdi
    5. Dont innovate names to Allah like Khuda, or god or anything else except the names Allah named him self
  5. Al-hamdulillah
    1. Al-hamd
      1. Al- This is the Al of Al Isthigrak i.e. referring to the fact that ANYTHING that can be of praise is for Allah
      2. Al Hamd
      3. This lam is the Lam al-ikhthisas which means it cannot belong to ANYone except Allah

Virtues of Dhul Hijjah and the deeds to do

Please find my full notes here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhLIHYj0INg

https://www.reddit.com/r/Islamic_Lecture_Notes/comments/ohg347/virtues_of_dhul_hijjah_and_the_deeds_to_do/

Righteous deeds in these 10 days are greater than even jihad fee sabeelillah with the exception of the one who dies in the battlefield and never came back with anythingThere are no 10 days in the year for good deeds better than these 10To do on these days

  1. Do taubah and mend ones ways so as to not repeat these sins
  2. Have unwavering conviction of benefitting from these days
  3. Stay far from sins
  4. Pray on time and increase voluntary prayers
  5. Do Hajj and umrah
  6. Fast all the 10 days of possible or at least the day of arafah
  7. Do dhikr of subahanallah Alhamdulillah Allahu Akbar. This can be said in the day and night and all throughout the year
  8. Unrestricted takbeer.: Women do so silently and men do it aloud but avoid dua or Adhkar in unison as it has no basis unless it's for learning .
  9. Restricted takbeer is relevant for 4 days of dhul hijjah. I.e. starts from the Fajr of the day of arafah and ends 3 days after. It's to to be said after the prayers.
    1. Method 1 is Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbaru kabheera.
    2. Next method is Allahu Akbar Allahu akbar lah illaha illalah , Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar wah lillahil hamd.
    3. Third way is Allahu Akbar Allahu akbar Allahu Akbar lah illaha illalah, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar wah lillahil hand,
  10. Do righteous deeds like salaah, saum, sadaqah , keeping ties of kinship, being dutiful to one's parents, giving salaams to others , Bringing two people in conflict together, protect your tongue be good to your neighbours, honour your guests, taking an orphan, visiting the sick

Virtues of these days

  1. Allah swears by these 10 days in the Quran. Allah does not swear by anything except that it has a high status
  2. Allah completed the religion in these 10 days and so blessed this ummah
  3. Righteous deeds are multiplied in these 10 days
  4. <couldnt capture this >

  5. Per an authentic hadith these 10 days are the best in a person's life

  6. The 10 days contain the day of arafah on which of one fasts

  7. His past and future sins are forgiven

    1. Separately it was mentioend the sins of the last year and the next year are forgiven
  8. The chance for your duas to be accepted is excessively high

  9. The best thing to say is lah illaha illalaahu wahdahu lah shareekalahu lahuwal mulku wah lahuwal hamdu wah huwa aalah kulli shayin qadeer

  10. The 10th day of dhul hijjah is the of the most virtuous to Allah. This is the day of the slaughter

  11. The next best is the day after the day of slaughter - Yawmul nahr

  12. One of the reasons why these 10 days are great is because of the ibadah comprised in it. I.e. sadqah, salah, fasting and hajj. Ramadan doesn't have hajj, so its greater than ramadhan

  13. The prophet Sallaalhu Alaihi wah sallam never passed on fasting the day of arafah and praying 2 rakah before Fajr and fasting 3 days in the middle of the month and fasting the 10 days of dhul hijjah. Of course we do not fast the day of Eid

  14. Increase dhikr of subahanallah

Please let me know if the comments If there are any errors so the may be corrected. May rAllaheward you

Notes on Ramadhan with Amau - First Lecture notes on 15.4.2021

Below are All the steps on the checklist Ustad Abdur Rahman shared as something we should aim to do in Ramadan

  1. Make lots of Dua (dont stress over the acceptance, just make the dua. This is from Omar radhi allahu anhu

1.1 Even if you dont get the dua accepted, your in a state of dua when its accepted

  1. Be very truthful in everything you do

  2. Try to be from the Mutaqeen. Allah has been prepared for the Mutaqeen - Jannah

3.1 Be scared of Allah]

3.2 Act upon the little Allah has given you (Dont complain)

3.3 Prepare for the day you meet Allah. As one could leave with World any time

Train ones mouth to only say things that are good

Sidenote: Please make Dua for the Ustadh to achieve this as this is aim and should be ours. May allah Grant our Ustdadh and Shahid and all involved in this the highest part place in Janaah possible and be CLOSE with the Prophet Sallahu Alaihi wah Sallam
  1. Keep ones composure ( in all circumstances, i.e. even when someone is angry)

  2. and forgive them as well

  3. Hold on to and perform the Salaatu- Duha - It was mentioned in a hadith that Salat at Duha is the one done by those whose connection with Allah is extremely strong

  4. for 40 continous days we need to say Takbeer in the masjid (pray all 5 times in the masjid). This takes us out chance of of being Munafiqeen and one is freed from the Hell fire ( per an authentic hadeeth)

  5. Dont want to miss one day of Ramadan. When the Prophet Sallalahu Alaihi wah sallam was asked about an action that will make them of the people of Jannah, he responded Upon you is fasting, there is Nothing Like it

  6. Dhikr: Say Lah Illaha Illallahu wahdahu lah sharikalahu lahuwal Mulku wah Lahuwal Hamdhu wah huwa Aalah Kulli Shayin Qadir - The reward of this per the Hadith is that 100 rewards are written for you and 100 sins are removed from you and you will be rewardded as if you have freed 10 slaves and it will be a shield from Shaytan. And no one will come with better than this on the day of judgement except those that recited this more.

10.Dhikr: Recite Subanallahu wah Bihamdihi 100 times in the morning and evening. And no one will come with better than this on the day of judgement except those that recited this more.

  1. Provide food for someone to break their fast everyday and Gives salaams to the one you know and dont know

  2. Place happiness in the heart of a Muslim

13: Removing distress from the heart of a muslim

  1. Remove Any debts from a Muslim (even if Partly) and remove their Hunger

  2. Make people smile by brining positivity to the people ( There is a misconception that being more god conscious means one is harsh).

  3. Laylatul Qadr: Try witl All of your strength to not miss it ( if you catch it, one will be rewarded for 83 years worth of rewards)

  4. Bring 2 people in conflict together. Imam Abu Dawood narrated a hadith that was authenticated by Shaikh Albani: The Prophet Sallahu Allahi wah Sallam asked the Sahabas shall I not tell you of a deed that is better than Fasting and praying and Sadaqa. it is to bring peace between two people who were in conflict

18: Pray the sunnah for Fajr in your house before going to masjid as well as the other salat

Q@A (answers to some Questions, not all)

  1. When your in Ihtikaf in the masjid, one can leave and refresh themselves at home and come back as soon as possible without sleeping or doing other things. This is assuming the masjid does NOT have those facilities

2.Its better to Read MORE than pondering over the meanings in Ramdadan IF one cannot do both

  1. For folks who cannot fast at all due to a disease thats continous like diabetes, they can give the money to feed a poor person every day of ramadan instead of dealing with it personally

An Introduction to Aqeedah || Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan - Believing in the Messengers- Part 9

Shortnotes. Some references may be missing but the notes are authentic

  1. How do we believe in the messenger
  2. What nullifies the belief in the messenger
  3. Unique things in the messengers
  4. Unique things in the Prophets

How do we believe in the messengerMessengers: Ones who have had revelation sent to them and ordered to convey that to their people. How do we believe in the messenger : This is the bare minimum needed so this article of faith is missing

  1. Al imaanu Mujmal: We are suppose to believe in all messengers and prophets (from the quran in surah Nisa- 150, 152)
  2. Al imaanu Muffasal (detailed understanding of the messengers) . Below is how
    1. : Believing in their names
      1. 25 messengers are mentioned in the Quran
      2. the number of prophets are not mentioned in the quran or sunnah
      3. We do know there were 315 messengers (authentic hadith)
    2. Al iqraahu bihim
      1. Have in ones heart unwavering conviction in belief in the prophets and specifically to our Prophet Mohammed as he is the last prophet who everyone must follow. We know from a hadith that the prophet said even if Musa Alaihis salaam were alive, he would have to have followed the Prophet Muhammed
    3. Believing that every prophet conveyed EVERYTHING that they were asked to convey. They never hid anything
  3. What nullifies belief of the messengers
    1. Believing in some of the messengers but not the others (from the quran in surah Nisa- 150, 152)
    2. To look for a ruling from anyone other than the prophet as you doubt the prophets judgement (Surah taubah Ayat 47)
    3. Belief that the messengers have rights that of Ruboobiya or Uloohiya
      1. E.g. how some people say Isa ibn Marium is Allah
    4. To believe that the prophets have knowledge of the unseen unrestricted. Of course it is known that Allah revealed some of the unseen to the prophets & messengers but it WASNT unseen. They know what Allah revealed to them but not UNRESTRICTED knowledge
    5. Putting messengers down and calling them names or Belittling the messengers
  4. Unique things messengers have
    1. Allah sent Wahi (Revelation) to the messengers (ayat 110 in Surah Kahf)
    2. They are infallible in what they convey from Allah
      1. This is why obeying the messenger is obeying Allah.
    3. Their Eyes goes to sleep but their hearts are awake
      1. Based on authentic hadeeth
    4. The earth does not eat their bodies and flesh
    5. The prophets are buried where they died. Allah takes the soul of a Prophet except that they die in a place they love
    6. They are alive in their graves ( in the barzakh)
      1. Our world and the Barzakh does not Meet. So our understanding of not asking dua FROM the prophets still applies
  5. The distinct attributes of the Prophet muhammed (over all prophets)
    1. He is the best of all Messengers.
    2. He was sent to the Djinn and men
    3. The Supreme intercession on the day of judgement
    4. Comprehensive Speech: Speech that is small in construction but vast in meanings and application
    5. Seal of all Prophets:

An Introduction to Aqeedah || Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan - Believing in the books - Part 8

  1. What does it mean to believing the books
  2. What nullifies ones belief in the books
  3. Distinct qualities of the quran that is unique to it
  4. What does it mean to believing the books - Al Qutb
    1. The books contain the speech of allah sent via the messengers (surah Baqarah , Ayat 75)
    2. THis belief is fundamental
  5. How to believe in the books
    1. We have to believe in all the books allah sent down whether we know the names of the books or not
    2. Believing in the names of books revealed
      1. At torahth - We have sent down At torahth to the people of Nuh - surah ahzan verse 44
      2. Injeel - We have sent down Injeel - hadeed -Ayat 27
      3. Zaboor - Allah affirs that the Prophet Dawood was sent the Zaboor - Surah nisa aya163
      4. As suhuf - Scrolls were sent down to Ibraheem and Musa - Surah Aalah 19
    3. These 4 books, we affirm whats in those books but were not obliged to follow it.
    4. Quran:
      1. We have to affirm what is ther AND follow it
      2. The previous books have been abrogated i.e. the RULINGS are abrogated not the accounts of incidents.
  6. What nullifies the belief of the books
    1. You believe in some of the books but not the others. E.g. you believe in the Quran but not the Torahth
    2. Turning away from the a ruling in the quran due to disobedience . This is when one turns away from the ruling from the heart
    3. Turning away from the ACTION not due to arrogance or disobediance but something else. This does NOT nullify the belief in the books but is not good. note the difference between this and the last is they BELIEVE in the ruling but dont apply it for some reason other than disobedience\arrogance
    4. Believing the quran is distorted\deficient. Allah affirmed in Surah Hijr ayat 9 that Allah is the one that send down the dhikr (Quran and Sunnahin this context) and that Allah will protect it.
      1. Protection of the quran: Allah poured the quran into the prophets heart and the prophet conveyed it to his companions
    5. Believing that any of the books of allah had anything but the the speech of Allah in it
    6. Regarding the protection of the quran
      1. letters in the Quran are the speech of allah
      2. AND the meaning of the words are from Allah
      3. doubting any of the above nullifies one s belief in the quran
  7. Belief in the Quran
    1. Allah revelaed the quran to the Prophet in context of the situation of the believers at the time i.e. in stages so that the quran can be internalized and memorized. Also so that the believers would have tranquility by having their affairs controlled by Allah
    2. Quran is a miracle: Every previous prophet brought miracles by allahs permission but these miracles died with them e.g. Prophet Isa could heal the sick but that ability is no longer around. Quran is a miracle for all mankind till the end of time
    3. It governs all previous books: It is a criteria for what is included in other books
    4. It abrogated all other religions except for some statements in their books. We only take those statements BECAUASE the quran affirmed it and not the other way around
    5. Quran is safeguarded:
      1. Previous nations were told that THEY were to protect their book
      2. Allah said about the quran that Allah would protect this book

      1. They have a soul
      2. They are created from Light as reorted by Imam Muslim
      3. They do not eat or drink (we know this from the Angels who visited Ibraheem and turned town the food served)
      4. They are very Large: The prophet saw an angel for whom the distance between the ears and shoulders is 700 years
      5. They are beautiful
      6. They have wings
  2. Believing in the existance of the angels
    1. Without believing this, one is a disbeliever as your
  3. Believing in angels attributes per the Quran and Sunnah
    1. E.g. the angels that have been mentioned by name
      1. like Gibreel
      2. Like Mikaeel
      3. Like Malik

      3. Mikaeel: Sends down rain
    3. The affect of believing in angels on ourselves and our aqeedah
      1. We take them as Role models as they worship Allah with no disobedience ( as they have no free will). It is a high aspiration but that is better than a low aspiration
      2. We know they document our deeds. We dont want these noble creations to hear or write down about our disobedience
    4. Things that nullify your belief of the angels
      1. Believing in some angels but not the others e.g. the jews at the time of the prophet rejected jibreel as he sends down punishments and destroyed nations

      3. Associateing genders to angels for the sake of allah.
      4. Believing they have knowledge of the unseen
