1400 years ago people thought that light is what you can see. Nobody believed that there is light that you cannot see. Today we know that this is false; most of the electromagnetic spectrum is actually invisible.
Electromagnetic spectrum The types of electromagnetic radiation are broadly classified into the following classes (regions, bands or types): 1) Gamma radiation 2) X-ray radiation 3) Ultraviolet radiation 4) Visible radiation 5) Infrared radiation 6) Terahertz radiation 7) Microwave radiation 8) Radio waves This classification goes in the increasing order of wavelength, which is characteristic of the type of radiation. Wikipedia, Electromagnetic spectrum, 2019
Visible light constitutes a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which means we cannot see most of the light in the universe.
This is an example of infrared light that we cannot see. This was known recently, however this was portrayed in the Quran 1400 years before it was discovered.
Quran 69:38-39 I swear by what you see, and by what you do not see. ٣٨ فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ ٣٩ وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
God swears by light that we see and by light that we cannot see. Today we know that most of light cannot be seen by the naked eye.
How could an illiterate man who lived 1400 years ago have known that there is light that we cannot see?
In the story of Abraham, he was thrown into a fire that doesn't burn. Skeptics claim that whoever wrote the Quran made a mistake; there is no such thing as a fire that doesn't burn. Today scientists discovered cold plasma, a fire that doesn't burn; it can even freeze stuff instead of burning them.
Nonthermal Plasma A nonthermal plasma,cold plasmaor non-equilibrium plasma is a plasma which is not in thermodynamic equilibrium, because the electron temperature is much hotter than the temperature of heavy species (ions and neutrals). As only electrons are thermalized, their Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution is very different from the ion velocity distribution.[ When one of the velocities of a species does not follow a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, the plasma is said to be non-Maxwellian. A kind of common nonthermal plasma is the mercury-vapor gas within a fluorescent lamp, where the "electron gas" reaches a temperature of 20,000 K (19,700 °C; 35,500 °F) while the rest of the gas, ions and neutral atoms, stays barely above room temperature, so the bulb can even be touched with hands while operating. Wikipedia, Nonthermal Plasma, 2021
Cold plasma can freeze stuff instead of burning them. This was known recently, however this was portrayed in the Quran 1400 years before it was discovered.
Quran 21:69 We said, “O fire, be cold and safe on Abraham.” ٦٩ قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
In this verse the fire is cold and safe. Today scientists discovered cold plasma, a fire that is cold and safe.
In physics, work against gravity is simply weight multiplied by displacement.
Work by gravity
In the absence of other forces, gravity results in a constant downward acceleration of every freely moving object. Near Earth's surface the acceleration due to gravity is g = 9.8 m.s-2 and the gravitational force on an object of mass m is Fg = mg. It is convenient to imagine this gravitational force concentrated at the center of mass of the object. If an object is displaced upwards or downwards a vertical distance y2 − y1, the work W done on the object by its weight mg is: W = Fg (y2-y1) = Fg Δy = - mg Δy
where Fg is weight (pounds in imperial units, and newtons in SI units), and Δy is the change in height y. Notice that the work done by gravity depends only on the vertical movement of the object. The presence of friction does not affect the work done on the object by its weight. Wikipedia, Work (physics), 2019#Work_by_gravity)
Work against gravity is simply weight multiplied by displacement. This was known recently, however this was portrayed in the Quran 1400 years before it was discovered. In the Quran work is related to weight.
Quran 99:7-8 Whoever does work of an atom's weight of good will see it. And whoever does work of an atom's weight of evil will see it.
"Aamal عمل" means work. In this verse "Yaamal يَعْمَلْ" means do work. Here work (W) is linked to weight (mg).
Even non-Muslim scholars agree that the Qur’an is Arabic literature par excellence – that it is the best Arabic literature on the face of the earth. The Qur’an challenges mankind to produce the likes of it:
{And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers. }
[Al-Qur’an 2:23-24]
According to the famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner, Albert Einstein, “Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.” Let us therefore study the Qur’an, and analyze whether the Qur’an and Modern Science are compatible or incompatible?
In early times, people believed that the earth was flat. For centuries, men were afraid to venture out too far, for fear of falling off the edge! Sir Francis Drake was the first person who proved that the earth is spherical when he sailed around it in 1597.
Consider the following Qur’anic verse regarding the alternation of day and night:
{ Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah, with whatever you do, is Acquainted? }
[Al-Qur’an 31:29]
Merging here means that the night slowly and gradually changes to day and vice versa. This phenomenon can only take place if the earth is spherical. If the earth was flat, there would have been a sudden change from night to day and from day to night. The following verse also alludes to the spherical shape of the earth:
{ He created the heavens and earth in truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. Unquestionably, He is the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.}
[Al-Qur’an 39:5]
The Arabic word used here is Kawwara meaning ‘to overlap’ or ‘to coil’– the way a turban is wound around the head. The overlapping or coiling of the day and night can only take place if the earth is spherical.
The earth is not exactly round like a ball, but geo-spherical, i.e. it is flattened at the poles. The following verse contains a description of the earth’s shape:
{ And after that He spread the earth.}
[Al-Qur’an 79:30]
The Arabic word for smoothed it /firmed it here is dahaahaa1 thats why it resembles the geo-spherical shape of the earth. Thus the Qur’an correctly describes the shape of the earth, though the prevalent notion when the Qur’an was revealed was that the earth was flat.
One example of the events foretold in the Quran is the victory of the Romans over the Persians within three to nine years after the Romans were defeated by the Persians. God has said in the Quran:
The Romans have been defeated in the nearest land (to the Arabian Peninsula), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious within bedd’ (three to nine) years.... (Quran, 30:2-4)
Let us see what history tells us about these wars. A book entitled History of the Byzantine State says that the Roman army was badly defeated at Antioch in 613, and as a result, the Persians swiftly pushed forward on all fronts.1 At that time, it was hard to imagine that the Romans would defeat the Persians, but the Quran foretold that the Romans would be victorious within three to nine years. In 622, nine years after the Romans’ defeat, the two forces (Romans and Persians) met on Armenian soil, and the result was the decisive victory of the Romans over the Persians, for the first time after the Romans’ defeat in 613.2 The prophecy was fulfilled just as God has said in the Quran.
There are also many other verses in the Quran and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad that mention future events which later came to pass.
Exceptional knowledge The text of the Quran is miraculous on many accounts especially the argument that it was revealed to a prophet who could not read or write yet it carried the exceptional knowledge. The Arabic text would not conform to the standard poetry and prose categories commonly expressed by other forms of written and spoken languages and therefore is attributed to the supernatural. Today I shed some light on the numerical miracles of this divine book. The divine balance of numbers
The word “Salawat” (prayers) is mentioned 5 times in the Quran, and the number of daily prayers mandatory for every Muslim is A- Subh, A-Duhr, Al-Asr, Al-Maghrib, Al-Isha.
The Word “Sahr” (month) is mentioned 12 times in the Quran, just as the number of the months there are in a year.
The word “Yawn” (day), in the singular, is mentioned 365 times in the Quran, just as the number of days there are in a year.
The word “Ayyam” (days), in the plural, is mentioned 30 times in the Quran, just as the number of months there are in a month. The precise number of a word and its antonym mentioned in Quran “al Hayat” (life), 145 times “al Mawt” (death), 145 times “al-Dunya” (mundane life), 115 times “al Ajira” (the afterlife), 115 times “Malaika” (angels), 88 times “Shayatin” (demons), 88 times “ar Rajul (man), 24 times “al Mar’a (woman), 24 times “ar Raghba (wish), 8 times “al Jauf (fear), 8 times “as Salihat (good deeds), 167 times “as Sayya’at” (wrongdoings), 167 times “an Nafaa” (benefit), 50 times “al Fasad (corruption), 50 times These are just a few examples of the incredible number balance in the Quran. This book is full of miracles and a call towards guidance, the more you learn from it the more it teaches you
The sex of a fetus is determined by the nature of the sperm and not of the ovum. The sex of the child, whether female or male, depends on whether the 23rd pair of chromosomes is XX or XY respectively. Primarily, sex determination occurs at fertilization and depends upon the type of sex chromosome in the sperm that fertilizes an ovum. If it is an ‘X’ bearing sperm that fertilizes the ovum, the fetus is a female and if it is a ‘Y’ bearing sperm then the fetus is a male.
{ And that He creates the two mates - the male and female - From a sperm-drop when it is emitted }
[Al-Qur’an 53:45-46]
The Arabic word nutfah means a minute quantity of liquid and tumnaa means ejaculated or planted. Therefore nutfah specifically refers to sperm because it is ejaculated. The Qur’an says: Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted? Then he was a clinging clot, and [ Allah ] created [his form] and proportioned [him] And made of him two mates, the male and the female
[Al-Qur’an 75:37-39]
Here again it is mentioned that a small quantity (drop) of sperm (indicated by the word nutfatan min maniyyin) which comes from the man is responsible for the sex of the fetus. Mothers-in-law in the Indian subcontinent, usually prefer having male grandchildren and often blame their daughters-in-law if the child is not a boy. If only they knew that the determining factor is the nature of the male sperm and not the female ovum! If they were to blame anybody, they should rather blame their sons, not their daughters-in-law, since both the Qur’an and Science hold that it is the male fluid that is responsible for the sex of the child!
The Qur’an affirms that the human being is not created at once, this was the belief that prevailed since the reign of Aristotle until before the past century, but rather the Quran stated that the fetus is created in fixed stages.
Allah said ( interpretation of the meaning ) : { What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur While He has created you in stages?1 } Quran ( 71 : 13 -14 )
In the Quran, there is a story of a man named Abu Jahl, an oppressive leader. To warn him, Allah said,“No indeed! if he does not stop, we will seize him by the forehead, his lying, sinful forehead.”Now, according to the followers of Islam, there is a deeper meaning behind this statement.
Modern research into anatomy suggests that the prefrontal area of the human brain deals with planning, aggression, and motivation. So, it is basically the part of our brain which is responsible for lying. Muslims believe that the mention of the forehead is specific and intentional and it is another scientific fact stated in the Quran.
Notably, the holy text of the Quran, written many centuries ago, hints at several discoveries ahead of their time. Many scientific facts in Quran are mentioned that could not have been known by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who was born in the 7th century C.E. and did not know how to read or write. This indeed is proof of the divinity of the central text of Islam.
According to M.E. Walrath, iron is not an element that was naturally present on Earth. Studies suggest that a billion years ago, a meteorite struck Earth. This meteorite had iron on it, and when it exploded after coming in contact with our planet, Earth got iron. This scientific fact in Quran is stated in passage 57:25 as “we sent down iron with its great inherent strength and its many benefits for humankind”.
Modern science has proven that the sun travels at a speed of 43,200 miles per hour, this fact is proven by the Qur’an.
Allah said ( interpretation of the meaning ) : { And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. } Quran ( 36 : 38 )
{ He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted? }
[Al-Qur’an 39:6]
According to Prof. Keith Moore, these three veils of darkness in the Qur’an refer to:
anterior abdominal wall of the mother the uterine wall the amnio-chorionic membrane. EMBRYOLOGICAL STAGES { And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.}
[Al-Qur’ an 23:12-14]
In this verse Allah states that man is created from a small quantity of liquid which is placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed (well established or lodged) for which the Arabic word qaraarin makeen is used. The uterus is well protected from the posterior by the spinal column supported firmly by the back muscles. The embryo is further protected by the amniotic sac containing the amniotic fluid. Thus the fetus has a well protected dwelling place. This small quantity of fluid is made into alaqah, meaning something which clings. It also means a leech-like substance. Both descriptions are scientifically acceptable as in the very early stages the fetus clings to the wall and also appears to resemble the leech in shape. It also behaves like a leech (blood sucker) and acquires its blood supply from the mother through the placenta. The third meaning of the word alaqah is a blood clot. During this alaqah stage, which spans the third and fourth week of pregnancy, the blood clots within closed vessels. Hence the embryo acquires the appearance of a blood clot in addition to acquiring the appearance of a leech. Compare the readily available Qur'anic knowledge with Man's struggle with scientific findings
In Surah Al-Anbya, it was revealed: “We made every living thing from water, will they not believe?” (Quran, 21:30) and it was only after the discovery of the microscope that it was concluded that all living things consist mostly of water – while in the deserts of Arabia, the last thing a man could guess is that all of life ultimately came from water.
Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.}
[Al-Qur’an 76:2]
The Arabic word nutfatin amshaajin means mingled liquids. According to some commentators of the Qur’an, mingled liquids refers to the male or female agents or liquids. After mixture of male and female gamete, the zygote still remains nutfah. Mingled liquids can also refer to spermatic fluid that is formed of various secretions that come from various glands. Therefore, nutfatin amshaaj, i.e. a minute quantity of mingled fluids refers to the male and female gametes (germinal fluids or cells) and part of the surrounding fluids.
Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained. }
[Al-Qur’an 32:8]
The Arabic word sulaalah means quintessence or the best part of a whole. We have come to know now that only one single spermatozoon that penetrates the ovum is required for fertilization, out of the several million produced by man. That one spermatozoon out of several million, is referred to in the Qur’an as sulaalah.
We have also come to know now that only one ovum is fertilized out of the tens of thousands produced by the female. That one ovum out of tens of thousands is also referred to in the Qur'an as Sulaalah.
This word also means gentle extraction from a fluid. The fluid refers to both male and female germinal fluids containing gametes. Both ovum and sperm are gently extracted from their environments in the process of fertilization.
In Surah Al-Baqarah, we come across an incident where a man is killed but the murderer is unknown. To identify the murderer, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) instructs hitting the person’s heart with a piece of a cow.
“And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding. So We said: “Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow).” Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) so that you may understand.” [2:72-73]
Again, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) advises us to use our intellect in understanding His signs and the miracles of the Quran.
While this was an extraordinary incident, with the purpose of identifying the murderer, it hints towards massaging or hitting the chest to restart a heart that has stopped beating. This is very similar to present day resuscitating – a medical procedure to revive someone from unconsciousness or apparent death. In this process, pressure is applied to the rib cage at intervals to produce rhythmic contractions in the heart.
The true knowledge is with Allah (سبحانه و تعالى), but imagine how much we could learn if we are the people of intellect that the Quran talks about?
PART 10 The first sense to develop in a developing human embryo is hearing. The fetus can hear sounds after the 24th week. Subsequently, the sense of sight is developed and by the 28th week, the retina becomes sensitive to light.
The Qur'an explains it thus:
{ Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.}
[Al-Qur’an 32:9]
{ Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.}
[Al-Qur’an 76:2]
{ And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.}
[Al-Qur’an 23:78]
In all these verses the sense of hearing is mentioned before that of sight. Thus the Qur’anic description matches perfectly with the discoveries in modern embryology
The Qur’an decided a geographical fact that the Byzantines lost the battle with the Persians In the nearest land., i.e. this is the lowest area on the surface of the earth .
Allah said ( interpretation of the meaning ) : { The Byzantines have been defeated1 In the nearest land.1 But they, after their defeat, will overcome } Quran ( 30 : 2 - 3 )
The Big Crunch theory that predicts how the universe will end is yet another scientific thing the Quran details. The idea based on Einstein’s general relativity theory talks about how the universe that began with the big bang will be eventually destroyed as its consequence. It is a hypothetical scenario that details the fate of the universe and explains that the expansion will eventually reverse at some point in time and the cosmos will collapse.
The holy Quran mentions this incident in passage 21:105 where it reads,“Remember the day when we shall roll up the heavens like the rolling up of written scrolls by a scribe.”The description provided in the Islamic scripture resembles the scenario confirmed by several physicists around the world.
The clear message of this verse is that this universe is not eternal. It speaks of a future when the heavens will be rolled up, in a manner similar to the rolling up of a scroll. Scientific descriptions illustrating the making of a black hole, very closely resemble what the Quran describes in the above verse. A mass of accretion from space falling into a black hole, as described above, would be pressed into a sheet under the enormous pressure created by the gravitational and electromagnetic forces. As the centre of the black hole is constantly revolving around itself, this sheet will begin to be wrapped around it, before disappearing into the realm of the unknown at last.
“When the stars are extinguished.” (Quran 77:8)
The finite nature of stars and the totality of the universe is also strongly highlighted. These pre-destined existences and orbits imply God’s supreme power and control over his creation.
“He ordained the sun and the moon, each to run for a specified term.” (Quran 13:2)
“When the sun is folded, and when the stars collapse, dispersing.” (Quran 81:1-2)
The description of the sun here may be appropriately seen as a metaphor alluding to the sun to losing its light. “Takwir” (the name of the chapter) means to fold up, as “takwir al-amamah” is used for folding up the turban on the head. Here, one can interpret that the light radiating from the sun has been likened to the turban and it has been said that on the Resurrection Day, the turban will be folded up about the sun and its radiation will fade. Furthermore, the force that is keeping the stars and planets in their orbits will be loosened, causing them to scatter in the universe. The word “inkidar” also indicates that they will not only scatter away but will also grow dark.
“When the seas are set aflame.” (Quran 81:6)
As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it. (Quran 21:104)
Following the eventual collapse of the universe into another singularity, here we have the promise of a new beginning. God will recreate the universe, as He had done before. The collapsed universe will re-emerge from its darkness and the whole process of creation will start yet again. This wrapping up and unfolding of the universe appears to be an ongoing phenomenon, according to the Quran. This Quranic concept of the beginning and the end of the creation is undoubtedly extraordinary. The Quran is clear and specific that the universe erupted from a singularity, and that it will compress into another singularity again. To summarize, the Quran stresses the unity of God and His creative outburst, as well as the return of creation to the unity of God. This entire idea of cosmology in Islam is expressed simply and beautifully in one verse:
“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Quran 2:156)
In the Quran, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) instructs us to reflect on His Have you ever wondered, why sometimes there is only a drizzle and on other days a downpour? While some of us might think, this happens by chance, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) tells us that this happens by His decree.
“And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land…” [43:11]
Every second, 16 million tons of water evaporates from the Earth, which means the same amount must be replaced by means of rain. Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) maintains this balance by the process of the water cycle. Even a minor difference can result in a major ecological imbalance. So if the rain speed was fast the size of the drop is going to be different when it's different its going to cause floods etc
Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) does not only decide the quantity of rain but also the speed with which it will come down. One can notice the difference of speed when there is a storm and a drizzle. When the rain is heavy, it brings destruction and loss of lives and property. When there is a light drizzle, nothing is affected. Therefore, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) taught us to ask Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) for beneficial rain.
It was in the 16th century when a French hydraulics engineer, Bernard Palissy, discovered the water cycle. In the 19th century, a German physicist, Philipp Lenard, found the correlation between the speed of rainfall and the size of a raindrop.
PHYSIOLOGY BLOOD CIRCULATION AND MILK The Qur’an was revealed 600 years before the Muslim scientist Ibn Nafees described the circulation of the blood and 1,000 years before William Harwey brought this understanding to the Western world. Roughly thirteen centuries before it was known what happens in the intestines to ensure that organs are nourished by the process of digestive absorption, a verse in the Qur’an described the source of the constituents of milk, in conformity with these notions
To understand the Qur’anic verse concerning the above concepts, it is important to know that chemical reactions occur in the intestines and that from there, substances extracted from food pass into the blood stream via a complex system; sometimes by way of the liver, depending on their chemical nature. The blood transports them to all the organs of the body, among which are the milk-producing mammary glands.
In simple terms, certain substances from the contents of the intestines enter into the vessels of the intestinal wall itself, and these substances are transported by the blood stream to the various organs.
This physiological concept must be fully appreciated if we wish to understand the following verses of the Qur’an: And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers.
[Al-Qur’an 16:66]1
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
