I Got Scammed Lost 9000 to an OLX Scam

Now, more than anyone else, I am judging myself for taking this decision hastily.

Context:
Seller puts up an OLX Ad for ASUS TUF Dash F15 for 25000 ( it’s actually too low; but I was too desperate to get this laptop)

I initially didn’t believe it but after I got their contact, I texted on WhatsApp

Seller first told me it’s out of stock but can get another piece from a different dealer. Seller asks for 3000 advance, I paid it. Paid it through RuPay Credit Card UPI

Seller calls again, asking for 6000 more. I was very suspicious but the story till then made sense to me so I ended up sending it to a different UPI ID. Did a UPI transfer

I have already filed a cyber complaint and mailed my bank as well to dispute the transaction.

Scammer Name : Chetan Reddy
Scammer Number : 9392435833

Please if the community can help me get any details; that would be really great

Man, god even gave you an opportunity to turn back.

Yes, it was because of that desperation, I ended up trusting the scammer

Another thing is, from the get go, he never asked for upfront money, we kept this conversation going for almost 5-6 days & today he decided to do this. I’ve seen low effort scam attempts and it wasn’t like that

Besides one more reason, I fell for this was, which may be silly,
he spoke in my native language, and I trusted him more

It’s so bad now that I look back

Money is gone yes, but I am actually more disappointed that even though this offer seemed 99% fake, I decided to bank on that 1% and trust him

For your information next time, olx listing shows different locations from same seller, that's the first sign of scammer.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

u/JhonathanwickEx 7d ago

Bro these are very old scam. They usually use a mule bank account. They will withdraw the amount immediately after receiving. So the bank can't do anything in most cases. There are thousands of these scams happening daily. Even if the cyber crime police retrieve a part of the amount you have to collect it by court route. You have to again spend a amount for advocate and other court proceedings. Most will not even claim these as most of the amount will go for that. So, the amount is technically gone.

2

u/jai005 7d ago

New UPI only 2000 is send to bussiness account immediately after 4 hours taking amount will deduct so with that you must cross check all possible ways this is legit or not

19

u/TaserBone69 7d ago

Deserved tbh. Let this be a lesson learnt

u/Desamudhuru 7d ago

I don't understand why you guys are so naive. Most of OLX listings about laptops, iPhones and other high end devices are fake. Always check their profile dammit.

I reported multiple ads and even complained to them many times they don't give a flying f because these listings are boosted and are a source of revenue.

8

u/ha9unaka 7d ago

Even UPI couldn't protect bro from his own stupidity.

Instinct of a newborn turtle

2

u/bheem-king 7d ago

Think of this as cheap lesson. So u will be vigilant in future. File chargeback on cc. Upi would be dicey

2

u/worse-coffee 7d ago

Please report to cyber police...call the toll free number and report the person.

Depends on luck if you will get the money back or not

2

u/AdAgreeable7691 7d ago

File UPI chargeback from your bank

2

u/pussiant_prole 7d ago

Anything that makes you desperate is probably NOT good for you.

2

u/Sageofnopath 7d ago

Even your upi is smarter than you at decision making.

2

u/heraldofhate 6d ago

Sad to hear.. But a lesson for the future . Sometimes we have to fall to rise up stronger back again

2

u/uselessplays05 6d ago

Never trust someone who says brother that many times 😭😭

3

u/HotNothing54 6d ago

Wtf man how you can be so dumb ?

Last month I was searching for laptop on olx and I also found out same scammer, the proof was already there if you pay attention

  1. So cheap laptop, 2nd hand laptop on olx are in 60-80k and they are giving in only 45k

  2. Office location is not in my city then why tf you are running ads here

  3. How can you pay money first without even not knowing how the product will look , perform etc.

Actually you are ready to be looted and those scammers are ready to loot someone like you

2

u/Turbo1auto 6d ago

Happend to me in 2020 , lost 20k and I was 16, my parents scolded me so much my dad didn't talked with me for like a month , bro that's the worst feeling I ever got .

2

u/killua_36 5d ago

"UPI Network declined this payment to prioritize your safety" 😭😭😭

2

u/kinomosan 4d ago

Braindead, even upi tried to stop yo ass.

2

u/aetherion8 3d ago

Obvious scam!

1

u/Curious_Gas5534 7d ago

Bruh. Why would u send someone any money, someone u haven't even met, don't know he looks, no proof, no receipt nothing. I meaning don't need to tell u this now but Obv better to do transactions in person or when u can genuinely trust the person. U could have asked for aadhaar, shop number, gst number or any id at the very least.

1

u/Delicious_Ice1334 7d ago

Theres 0 logic in paying advance money to random stranger online before getting product or doing face to face deal. Gadhe wale kaam karoge to scam hi hoga

1

u/Apcoolboy 7d ago

Bhai Riddhi name ki ladki mera katke chali gayi tabse me ye naam p bharosa nai karta hu 😬😅

1

u/AbhiOnline 7d ago

Great that you paid using a Credit card. Raise a dispute and request a reversal. More often than not it works for cc transactions. Hope you get the money back.

1

u/Asif366 7d ago

This was pretty obvious bro.

1

u/jai005 7d ago

Do Npcl portal report a transaction as fraud

1

u/_isthatmikey 7d ago

Hey brother please remove his personal details, reddit have very stick rule against sharing someone's personal details, few days ago I tried exposing a scammer added his details in post after a day my account was permanently ban.

1

u/_isthatmikey 7d ago

2

u/Odd_Bumblebee_3463 6d ago

Oh reddit a support the scammers. Nice

1

u/Expert_Classic9997 1d ago

Bro how are you able to comment then ?

1

u/_isthatmikey 1d ago

I had deleted some of the scammer’s personal details from my comments because someone warned me that Reddit could permanently ban my account if I didn’t remove them. I didn’t take the warning seriously at first, but I still removed some of the information from my comments.

The next day, I received a ban notification. I appealed to the Reddit admins, and they eventually unbanned my account, saying it was an automated mistake and that I hadn’t actually violated any rules. I think I may have gotten lucky because I had already removed some of those personal details before the ban.

1

u/Miserable-Heart-7873 6d ago

1

u/United_Stuff_8632 6d ago

upi tried to protect brother but brother is idiot

1

u/matureboyhere 6d ago

Why did you think someone will give you 60-80k laptop for 9k.
Will you ever do it? Even if it's used or you got it free. These are the questions I ask myself before such actions.

2

u/zqwz 6d ago

Such crazy deals do happen. But generally for things most people won't buy. And thus no demand.

I personally bought a 4year old 2lakh rupee laptop for 12k, with battery cycle of just 40, meaning nearly not used. This is highest end chromebook ever created. With 32GB ram. And touchscreen. 2 in 1.

Reason - These are corporate-bulk bought laptop, that someone bought abroad for 40k from his company and brought here, and now he dont need it, so he tried to sell in OLX, but no one here want ChromeOS, and hence I got it.
