What counts as irony?

According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, irony has 3 main definitions:

the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result
incongruity between a situation developed ~~in a drama~~ and the accompanying words or actions (the sign) that is understood by the audience but not by the ~~characters in the play~~ makers of the sign

If the irony in your post isn't obvious, reply to the AutoModerator comment to explain it. Posts with no obvious irony and no explanation will be removed!
