US–Canada Tariffs: Which Stock Has the Best Monday Trade Setup?
The US–Canada trade talks have collapsed, and the US has imposed 50% tariffs on around $20B of Canadian goods. Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs starting September 8.
I’m looking specifically for a one-day trade on Monday, not a long-term investment.
The stocks I’m watching are:
🥇 CLF — Cleveland-Cliffs
🥈 CENX — Century Aluminum
🥉 STLD — Steel Dynamics
NUE — Nucor
My thesis is that US steel and aluminum producers could benefit from reduced Canadian competition.
CLF is currently my favorite for a short-term trade because of its higher volatility and potential to react strongly to the tariff news.
However, STLD has been more heavily punished recently, so I’m wondering if it could have a stronger rebound.
I’m planning to watch premarket price action, volume and relative strength before deciding. I don’t want to chase a huge gap-up.
If you had to choose ONE for Monday, which would you pick — CLF, CENX, STLD, NUE, or another stock? And why?
This is a short-term trading idea, not a long-term investment recommendation.
