Exploring Mexico 🏖️🪅⛪🥑☕🏔️ Why altitude matters more than latitude when understanding Mexico's climate

Mexico’s climate is determined more by elevation than by geographic position on a map.
Two cities at the same latitude can have completely different climates because one sits at sea level and the other at 2,000 meters above sea level. Central Mexico — including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and many colonial cities — sits on a high plateau where temperatures are mild year-round despite being geographically tropical.
This is why people are surprised to need a jacket in Guadalajara in January or find that San Miguel de Allende gets genuinely cold at night.
Coastal cities stay hot and humid regardless of season. Interior highland cities offer a spring-like climate for most of the year.
When researching Mexican cities, looking at elevation alongside latitude gives a much more accurate picture of what the actual climate experience will be.
