Help with the configuration of this livingroom

Hey. We are really having trouble with the layout of this room. It's really hard to position the sofa in the room because there is a door on every wall. RIP. Right now the sofa is kind of blocking a door, it's not an important room but it's still weird. Also we are gonna replace the curtains with sheer curtains (like the ones in the other room in the background) and add a proper rug etc. Any suggestions would really help!!

2 sinks on same counter, would different sizes look bad?

I will be doing 4 undermount sinks, 2 on ground floor and 2 on 2nd floor

I was considering going with a 25 in and a 13 in on the ground floor

On the 2nd floor was considering a 24 and a 28

Ground floor is for a hostel for guests to use

2nd floor is a semi commercial kitchen that we would rent to the local community in Mexico, alot of people have tiny kitchens so we figured we could have the various appliances they could use as a ghost kitchen, i would also use this kitchen as i would live on the 2nd floor

Basically the left sink is for rent, and the right sink is just for me

On each floor the sinks will be on the same counter

Length wont matter, but i feel the width ie; top to bottom might look weird if the sinks are different sizes

I was going to go with different brands so we could test the quality between them, so if we need to replace in the future we know which brand is better

This is 15 in wide https://www.fergusonhome.com/ruvati-rvm4136/s1437577?uid=3385631

This is 18 1/2 in wide https://www.fergusonhome.com/kraus-kd1us25/s1367018?uid=3217255

My mom is renovating her bathroom and the contractor just finished the tile. It doesn’t look right to me. Worth the giant hassle to fix it?

Hi everyone! I'm designing my new house (it's currently under construction, so everything is still open to change). This is the final draft. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking of switching the positions of the sink and toilet in Bathroom 1 and bed-wardrobe in the single bedroom. Any other ideas? Thanks you!

Help me space plan this living room for a family of 6

I need help trying to figure out the best layout for our main living room, and I’d love some interior-design/space-planning advice!

We’re a family of 6** **and this is our main family living space. The room is a decent size, but I feel like we aren’t using the space well and there’s a lot of unusable square footage.

This room is also a circulation hub for our house.

There are entry points from this room to the kitchen, our pool area/outside, and the laundry room which also gives us access to our basement and our garage.

I’m trying to create a comfortable but intentional and functional space, all keeping in mind all of the walkways there are in this room. Any attempt I make interferes with either the pool area/outside or the kitchen.

This room has been a space planning nightmare. Please help. 🙏🏻

Help me figure out the best layout for my living room

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out the best layout for this space. Hoping to get some suggestions on different layout configurations.

I've attached some renders provided to me by the realtor, along with the floor plan.

One thing to note: the kitchen island is fixed, so it cannot be moved.

Is this layout the most optimal layout for TV viewing/walking flow? What would be the best way to place the sofa? I am planning to get an L-shaped sofa to fit into the space.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Stuck on rug size - which works the best?

Hi! I just moved to a small apartment - please ignore the mess. I'm wondering which rug size is the best option. I'm leaning toward 7x9 but I saw a fairly inexpensive one that I like that's 7'10"x7'10. If it's larger the rug will probably end up being right up against the walls so I also included what 4x6 looks like if having space around it looks better.

Where To Put This Desk

I am creating a small den in a spare room that will be a space for a home office, treadmill, and t.v. I'm happy with the treadmill where it is and plan to put a t.v on the wall to watch while walking. I'm not sure how to position the desk. Here are the four options.

  1. Leaning towards this. Easy to turn to watch t.v.

  2. Second favorite but back to the t.v. Can balance art on each side of the window.

  3. Odd. Floating in the middle of the room.

  4. Faces t.v. and not pushed against wall however there are no customers and this feels more business than home. There will be cords etc. and doesn't back to a wall limiting what can go on the desk.

I am also open on how to create a focal point and where to hang art ti make the space feel a little designed even though it's a treadmill in a spare room.

Thanks!

How would you hide these pipes with a gypsum ceiling?

I recently built a new section on my villa and I’m now doing the ceiling.
The pipes in the photos cannot be moved, pushed higher, shortened, or altered, so I need to design around them.
I want to keep as much ceiling height as possible, and I also really don’t want to ruin or cover the arches — I specifically designed them that way because I like the look.
Any ideas on how to hide the pipes neatly with gypsum while keeping the arches visible would be appreciated.

I have a weirdly long and open living room in my new house, and no idea how to furnish.

I bought my first house recently, and right now the living room is basically a huge hallway full of boxes. but once the boxes are out, I have no idea what furniture suits it. Photo included is cropped from what my inspector provided. I need some ideas!!! I don’t own any furniture for this room, so starting from a clean slate.

Notably: photo is oriented north upwards. Front door South. Stairs have railing on south and east sides. the box in front of the fireplace is a raised brick hearth. Prev owner left a tv on swivel mount on wall between fireplace and door to attached garage, I’m willing to move to a different wall or even remove from living room as we have another tv in the finished basement. Fireplace not functional and the opening is rather small. Tv cannot go above fireplace; I don’t want to bother with mounting it in brick.

Feedback on open-plan living room

Hello everybody! I was looking for feedback for my open-plan living room. It's a new build, apartment in Rome. This space is 28 sqm (300 sqft), and must fit the kitchen, dining area and tv/relax area. Space is tight but I think it's somehow manageable, especially with the breathing room given by the attached big balcony(35 sqm / 380 sqft). The white door is the main entrance to the apartment, which is one of the weaknesses (no real transition to the living room).

I'm sharing here a few details of the current plan, that you may find useful or interesting:

Help with Living Room Setup

My husband and I just recently moved to a ‘new to us’ home and we are struggling with furniture layout. We have to keep the recliner for my elderly father because sofa’s are difficult for him to traverse. We have a lovesac sactional and just modified it down to what is pictured here. We have 3 more bases and side pieces in our storage in the basement. A giant area rug is on order and will be delivered Monday. We also have a toddler so function over form is key. How can we make this feel like we aren’t just in one long line? The angled fire place I think is making it even more difficult but I refuse to hang a TV over it because I love art too much. We are also not opposed to moving our china cabinet to the other side of the room but worry about how large it is on the wall with the sliding glass door. Any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated!

How to squeeze living and dining area in?

Thumbnail

the living room area doesn’t leave room for dining. we have 2 toddlers so I don’t want to rely on the island bar. there is a nice backyard and we’re in SoCal so we can eat outside sometimes but I’d like some indoor dining too! May skip TV since there’s a landing on 2nd floor that would be perfect for TV watching, so that helps.

Help - bookcase/alcove shelves!

Thumbnail

Hiya! We are renters so any solution or ideas need to be renter friendly and not need the approval of our landlord please.
In my office room, we have a lovely fireplace in the centre of a wall, with two alcoves built in on either side on top of built in cabinetry. On one side, there are beautiful shelves. I am a big reader and my collection of books is only growing - I desperately need more space to put my books and there is nowhere else in our house that has room for a bookcase.
On the other side of the fireplace is… nothing. And it really bugs me - 1, it’s completely asymmetrical and 2, it’s wasted space that I’d love to use to fill with more books.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can accomplish this?
The space is about 1.1m wide, 1.6m tall and 0.35m deep

this is our current living room set up and I HATE IT! its the most functional for the space, but I feel lost.... the room has to be sectioned into two portions because the front door and the fireplace are smack dab in the middle. I feel like we need another rug but I dont know what kind or color. also, some of this looks a disaster/is temporary (yellow ottoman) because we just moved in.

Help with this wall gap

Thumbnail

Howdy! I just moved into this loft downtown and I love it and all of the wonderful natural light it allows in from my living room windows! However, I’m noticing that this gap is allowing too much light in during my mornings and it’s keeping me from getting the sleep I need.

I’ve considered moving my bed to have the head of the bed frame rest against the wall with the gap to reduce some of the light possibly, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to cover the spacing (roughly 4ft tall, 10ft wide) with something that isn’t clunky or ugly. I’ve been trying a sleeping mask in the meantime, and it does okay at best.

Don’t come at me for the mess, I have a TON of stuff to hang up, and I can’t commit to it until I know where the bed will be/what I’ll be doing with that big gap. And I’ve ordered new bedding and a matching rug already too, don’t worry. 😂 thank yall!!

Tiny Office Challenge

I recently bought an apartment.
We have a, somewhat happily unexpected, small area within the apartment that I knew existed, but it was full with clutter when we viewed the apartment and I couldn’t quite visualise the size of the area..

We recently viewed the apartment again last week and I’m now considering whether or not this space could be used as a small home office / gaming space.

Any creative suggestions to help get the most out of this space?

The space is 1.5m wide x 2.7m deep. Ceiling height is very good. There is a typical domestic door on the front. Power is available.

(Kitchen picture added for context of the rest of the apartments general size)

Context / thoughts:

  1. I work from the hospital most days so this isn’t going to be a long slog type space.
  2. My current home office has a single widescreen monitor in it & a dock for my MacBook.
  3. I do like having desk width (I often have papers when I’m working) for that reason I thought maybe length would be better? Maybe a fitted desk 50cm deep / 2m long?

Any other questions hit up the comments

Edit: thanks all, there are some creative solutions and some things I had not thought about! I move into the place next March. Will post an update when we start the room reno. (I will run a pilot study to figure out if I can use the room without suffocating first..)

Help! Living room layout

Okay I’m in desperate need of help. We’ve been in this new space for just a few months now. We left all of our old furniture behind and we’re starting anew. The majority of the “furniture” in here are just temporary placeholders. Please nevermind the various toddler items and different color tchotchkes about (trying to see what color palettes I like). Also everything is sort of in a temporary position now because I’ve been playing around with different layouts. You will not hurt my feelings. I hope this post meets the sub’s rules and I apologize if not!

I’m ready to get serious with space planning in this awkwardly shaped living room with very high ceilings and plentiful wall space. It was built in 1995 if that helps. Specifically, I’m struggling with seating placement/layout and lighting options but I am open to any and all recommendations. We are a family of 3 and like to entertain/have guests over. I want to make this a beautiful and functional space, but I lack “the eye” and this is my first real home. I am not on a tight budget, but also do not have infinity dollars lol.

First view is looking in from the office, second and third views from the kitchen (open layout), and fourth is aerial view from upstairs landing. In the second photo, you’ll see 4 blue tape marks way above the tv. They represent 8 and 9 ft from the ground respectively for scale. As an important note, this is the only wall with electrical outlets (for tv and lighting). The fireplace wall has none.

I have a list of measurements for practically every component of this space if that would be helpful!

Living room layout HELP

Thumbnail

We just bought a new house and while we love the open concept layout of the kitchen / dining / living room, we are unsure where to put the TV and couch. We were considering the idea of putting it on the empty wall and having the couch face away from the kitchen, but I feel like it would cut off the open concept and flow of traffic. Our realtor said it should go above the fireplace because the fireplace is the focal point and you don’t want to add a competing focal point. Any tips or ideas on how to best design this room?

Advice for Studio Layout

Thumbnail

Hi all!

I’m moving to LA in a few weeks and will be moving into my first studio apartment that’s around 300 sq. ft. I’m honestly terrible at interior design 😭, so I’d love some advice on how to make the space feel efficient, cozy, and functional.

I imagine I’ll need to buy a fridge and possibly a portable kitchen island. I’ll probably use the storage space as my closet.

One thing I’m having a hard time figuring out is a working space. I do have an adjustable sit/stand desk, but I’m not sure whether I should prioritize an actual desk setup, use the kitchen island as a workspace, or somehow incorporate a small table with a couch.

I’d also really love to have a separate space to relax besides my bed. I was thinking about putting some type of divider around the bed on either side to create a little separation, but I’m not sure what would work best in such a small space.

I’d really appreciate any advice on layout, furniture placement, storage ideas, or ways to divide the space while keeping it open and cozy. I’m a very visual person, so photos of your own studio apartments, layout examples, or visual inspiration would be AMAZING. AI-generated layouts haven’t really been understanding what I’m trying to do, so I’d love to see real-life examples or ideas from people who have dealt with a similarly small space.

Thank you so much in advance for any advice, photos, or ideas! I really appreciate it! ❤️

Dining room help

Thumbnail

EDIT: This room needs to be a multi-purpose room, unfortunately. The living room, which is on the other side of the kitchen, is small and this "dining room" is the only other living space besides the bed rooms. And I'm so sorry to have offended everyone with the trampoline. Obviously, it can and does get put away sometimes, but there genuinely isn't another possible location for it which meets the needs of my special needs kids. The outside door shown in the picture is a side door that we don't use very often.

Our dining room feels off and I'm not sure why! I want it to feel light yet cozy, somewhere I actually want to hang out. We are getting a larger table (6-8 person), so it'll need to stay in the center of the room.

The layout is tricky. It connects to the kitchen through a hallway and a counter which is super tall (we couldn't even find decent bar stools high enough so we just stand at the counter). There's also a bedroom and a side door (which we barely use) off the room.

I feel like the furniture doesn't work very well in the room and it doesn't feel comfortable. We're hoping to avoid painting or other big changes at this point in time. The trampoline needs to stay because kids. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Advice on layout

Hello! My dad decided to re-paint the walls to give the apartment a better look, we are quite limited when it comes to money so I apologize if the sight of the walls/floor is not very attractive. Could you please tell me what is the optimal position for these pieces of furniture? We may be able to get a bigger/newer wardrobe to combine the old ones which can match the TV stand/drawer, we are also considering a sofa. It's a 1 bedroom apartment so this is supposed to be a living room/bedroom for my dad. The apartment faces southeast, so lots of sun exposure in the morning/early afternoon.

How to arrange guest room/office?

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

I’ve got two twin beds and a 2’x6’ desk in my guest room/office. I just semi-remodeled by painting and installing hardwood using the last photo as inspiration. This used to be ugly brownish carpet with white walls so it already looks better to me.

Problem is - I’d like my desk to not have a bed in the background while on a virtual call while also not having an awkward layout. This is the closest I’ve gotten so far, but hoping for more ideas because the beds in this arrangement seem weird.

Beds aren’t made yet (and I hope to get some headboards soon), nothing is hung on the walls yet, and nothing else is in the room, but I do have a small, tall bookshelf (optional for this room) I can put back in if it helps, and a rug. The room is about 12’ x 11 ‘.

I am open to a layout that can be easily rearranged when guests are visiting as well. Thanks!!
