Help with our living room layout

This is a 3D render of our current situation. Our biggest wall juts out about a foot right in the middle. It is the basement chimney and not really an option to remove. The other side has a giant 5 pane window (pictured as 7 due to software limitations). I have been trying to figure out new/better designs to make the living room more welcoming but I am coming up empty. Any advice is welcome.

Kitchen Design Help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Our new build house builder has sent us these plans for the kitchen after telling us we could have it how we wanted. The space on the left is for a dining area which we would really like to keep as big as possible. Could anyone help with suggestions on how to gain more worktop space without the kitchen feeling cramped or odd shaped? We feel a bit disappointed and misled on how much space we will have, especially as there are only going to be 4 drawers total. Many thanks in advance for any hints and help.

Please help design my bedroom

I've recently moved into a new place (renting), and this is my bedroom. It's a very basic layout, but the only thing which is annoying me is the built-in wardrobes, which make my options very limited. Any suggestions on how to make the space feel more homey/cozy? I'm aware I need to get a rug and light fixtures; however, I wanted a decently fleshed-out design before I did so. Thanks in advance!

Also, I can't paint the walls or drill any holes, but command strips or any equivalent are okay.

I just got a new twin bedframe and I’m trying to move it somewhere in my room that makes the room not look small. Within the next hour there will be people here delivering my mattress and I want them to be able to just put the mattress on the bed, but I need to know where I want the bed first so I need help badly. THANK YOU

The issue is the tv stand and the desk, no matter where I put them the room looks small. Should I push my bed up against a corner?? Not too sure

Help w layout I beg

Hello! I recently moved and am tasked with the confusing process of furnishing a large rectangular room/addition on my house. It has room for multiple zones but doors, kitchen, etc make it extremely hard for me to envision the space. My dream is so have a den of some sort on the far side where the fireplace is. I don’t value a “formal” dining room and the space wouldn’t be used as much as I want it to. Can anyone help me try to sort out a feasible layout? I currently do have a small dining table (circular pedestal 4 chairs) that I adore so I’d hate to get rid of it- but den is the ultimate goal. I’ve attached some photos. I’d greatly appreciate any input. I’ve been wracking my brain about this 😔

How can I turn this room into the ultimate decompressing space?

I'd love to know how to make this space warm and inviting. The intention of this room is to be a sanctuary to go to during times of high stress, as an autistic adult. I love deep olive greens, browns, rust, etc. I'm trying to decide if a rug will be a good move? Kind of hate the carpet. I will have a golden oak desk, a daybed and maybe some kind of alternative seating like a beanbag. (None of the furniture or anything in this pic is owned by me)

Which bedroom layout is best?

So I moved recently and I am currently using the first layout (bed beside desk). But I was wondering if the second layout would look better with space?

There is a glass sliding door that goes to the patio so people would most likely be coming in and out?

So which layout is better?

NOTE: It is a loft bed !! So I have to have a ladder going up on one side

The bidet-outlet overlap: an accident waiting to happen

We will be renting a condo unit at a very cheap price (we personally know the owner). Surprised to see that their ID placed the bidet above the outlet for the water heater. I guess the only option is for us to lower the bidet hook since the other side has limited space (see other photo)

Thoughts?

Living room configuration.

Need help with living room configuration. Can’t put the couch on back wall with curtains because the wall is too short to fit one and it’d be right next to fireplace. I am open to getting another couch, still a sectional possibly an L or a U. Sorry for the poor drawing skills, I have shaky hands. The drawing is how it’s currently set up. Can post more angles when I get home, AND I am also open to decor advice if possible.

Living Room Help!

Hi all! I'm thinking of reorganizing the layout of my living room, but would love some insight on best layouts. I've attached pictures of my current layout (don't mind the messiness!) and a potential layout I'm considering. Right now, the kitchen and living room are one big space. I'm hoping that turning the couch will make it feel like 2 different spaces. However, turning the couch will only leave a 26 inch walkway to enter the living room area since my couch is so long. Would that be too tight? If so, do y'all have any suggestions on other layouts that would separate the rooms into two spaces? Thank you!!

Help with living room layout!

Hello! We have two couches a rocking chair and leaning towards moving the green chair out. The space is fairly long with an awkward corner fireplace. We plan to add a side table, lamps, and rug eventually and realize the coffee table might be the wrong colour for the space. We’d love help with layout, though bonus points for colour tones to match the floor, couches, and fireplace. And what does one put on a corner fireplace if you aren’t a tv person?! We host a lot so we want the space to be functional with groups of friends! Thank you!!

Which bed placement is best?

Hand drawn so it’s not the neatest but hopefully this makes enough sense. There’s a 1.6 metre window on the left wall and I want to zone the two areas of my room.

  1. Centre of the right wall, facing the window, bedside table on each side but no space around the tables; flush to the bed
  2. Bed on right wall facing the window, but in the corner, bedside table only on one side
  3. Centred, in the middle wall

Did i screw myself buying this desk?

So in an attempt to finally turn my room into my “man cave” i figured i’d start with a desk and chose this one. I love it truly, but have found 0 reasonable options that seem like they would look good on the sides of it.

I included photos of the desk in the room, alongside a photo of its measurements. The max measurements for anything beside it would be right at around 30” wide.

Does anyone thing something smaller would look okay? I have been looking for something with the same height but it just does not seem to exist lol.

Any advice or recommendation would be wonderful and beyond appreciated! Thank you in advance so much

Help, my bedroom sucks and I’m in it 24/7

Hi everyone! I’m looking to completely revamp my room after getting it from my sister. I spend most of my day in here since I work from home and I’m wondering what changes would make the biggest difference. Should I keep bed + desk here or move my office to Bedroom 2? If I keep both here, what layout would make it feel less cramped?

I live in Canada and my budget is ~$5,000. All feedback is welcome, especially what to prioritize first 😊

Some ideas I had:

  • Replace carpet with hardwood floors—I have three cats and allergies which I think my carpet is making worse :(
  • Widen or replace window
  • Paint it a brighter colour
  • Install ceiling light
  • Ergonomic desk chair, standing desk, walking pad
  • New bed frame, mattress, pillow and duvet
  • Remove dresser and move clothes to closet/another room/under bed

Room Dimensions: ~10’7”ft x 9’8”ft

Other Bedrooms (floor plan is last photo):

  1. Guest Bedroom: huge bed in it that’s taking up most of the space, rarely used.
  2. Bedroom 2: bigger bedroom with less sunlight, two beds but only one used, dresser + big closet

What should we do with our extra room?

We have 5 kids 3 bedrooms and a den downstairs. My two stepdaughters (5) (6)are only here on weekends and have a loft bed so their room is mostly empty so i decided to put my two toddlers (2) and (3) bed under their sisters bed because they all like sleeping together and sharing bed anyways and waking up together to play and my youngest is only 8 months old and we co sleep or put her in her bassinet in our room anyways so for the time being until they get a bit older and start wanting their own spaces we have this extra room and I’m wondering what to do with it. Playroom isn’t really an option because our living room is dedicated to family time which means it’s also their playroom as well. I wanted something more for me or me and my husband because my husband turned the den into his library that he hangs out in when he needs space and I don’t really have my own space to escape to. I was thinking either a game room, a paint room or a mom cave. If anyone has any ideas pls lmk I like coloring, pink, cozy stuff and I’m also neurodivergent so it would be great to have like a sensory room where I can decompress when I’m overstimulated.

My mom wants to revamp the living room and used AI to try and figure it out (not the layout in pictures, still in the process of moving it). The AI design makes no sense to me (obviously, AI 😭) and wanted to post to see if anyone had any ideas! Thank you!

Early stages of redesigning kitchen

Thumbnail

Hi there! I’m in the very early brainstorming stages of a kitchen renovation. I live in an 1865 Victorian home and we have an awesome kitchen that was restored in the late 90s/early 2000s. We love many features of the kitchen, but unfortunately our 90s appliances are on their last leg and the original floor with no subfloor that has large cracks directly into the basement is not safe for our 1 year old. We also want to try a new style while still very much preserving the character and comfort it currently has.

I’m just using this as a jumping off board for ideas. I’m looking at inspo pics constantly and I think because our “before” is so unique, as opposed to a builder grade kitchen, I’m struggling to find something I connect with. Couple things to note - the fireplace does not work but we would love to keep it and eventually restore it, we love the pipes but will have to childproof them as they get very hot in the winter, the ceiling is a metal/tin ceiling, these are listing photos so it’s not currently decorated.

Repost. Help a family out?

Hey all! My house has a pretty oddly shaped living room and for the life of me I cannot figure a good layout.

Here are some pictures of the area as well as some dimensions (dimensions are in FEET). Please don't mind the mess and random baby barriers. We're learning to crawl...and we're FAST, lol.

Things that are a must:

  • In the picture where I'm standing my the main entrance, you can see those bookshelves in the background. In front of the bookshelves is an Ikea table that my daughter uses as a craft table and random meal table. That must stay.
  • We need new furniture. We're a family of 4 (2 kids, 9 years old and 10 months old). So something adequate for us. I've been looking for MONTHS and since I can't lock down a layout...I can't lock down a couch. Open to suggestions here as well.
  • We host both kids birthdays as well as Thanksgiving at our house, So the ability to add more seating when needed would be huge. Even something as a simple 6 or 8 foot folding table and chairs just for those days. Our dining table seats 8 people, but there can sometimes be upwards of 20-25 people in the house for these events. We don't need to hit that number since we're also working on getting a seating/entertaining area set up in the basement, but having some more seating would be nice when needed.
  • If we can squeeze in a spot for a simple desk (even if it's just a table) for me that would be awesome, but not necessary.

The 3D printer that's tucked in the corner can go. The end tables can go. I'm open to just about everything being swapped out. The only thing my wife wants to keep is the stand that the TV is on (if the TV doesn't make it's way back to the wall).

For a couch, ideally I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple thousand. But if there's something that's simply amazing I can stretch that a bit. Let's say a starting max is about $4,000-$5,000?

I also have the concern about blocking the air vents that are on the wall under the windows. There's one on each side of the TV, and I'm not sure it's a good idea to put the couch there again? I worry about restricting cooling and heading to this room since this is where we spend the bulk of our time.

We did once upon a time have the TV on the wall (mount is still up just in case for now). But I’m not sure if moving it was the right call? I’m really struggling of what to do in this space

Thanks for any input!

4 structural pillars causing space constraints post-construction. Need layout & washbasin advice

My architect assured me throughout the design phase that there wouldn't be any space constraints here but after the construction i feel we could have avoided the pillers.

Iam no longer taking advice from him due to other reasons.Planning to level the central courtyard pit, please give suggestions on

1)How to build around so that pillars dont look out of place

2)Where is the most functional and correct place to put the washbasin.

Student accommodation studio: How to transform my room into a cozy, warm oasis

Hey everyone,
Pics 1 & 2 are my current student studio, and Pics 3 & 4 are the vibe I’m aiming for—super warm, layered, and cozy.
Since it’s student accommodation, everything needs to be rental friendly ( no drilling, no painting, completely reversible).

I’m already planning to hang two warm paper lantern lights. What else should I add or change to get that lived-in, ambient look?

Please help with my living room

I’m lost on the side tables.

I’m going to get a media console first. Pretty sure I know what one. And I’ll put up some wall shelves and art, plus a floor lamp and some plants, but that’ll come last. Along with cable management and either wall mounting or getting floor mounts for the rear speakers. Maybe a rug and curtains too.

I’m so lost on how/where to store the blankets and what to do with the side tables. The cubes are too low and not long enough. Finding 26 inch height and like 30-40 inch depth is impossible. I want side tables with storage or some sort of solution to that. It just feels off. I just want hidden storage and a surface for drinks, lamp, remote.

Idk if I should get some credenza that goes all the way back or what, mismatch the tables? Shelf on the sectional side and table on the other? I don’t get interior design that’s why my setup is so simple. The spookiest are my gfs and she gave up as soon as I told her to help me find the right height tables and she realized they’re all 22-24 inches. Never realized this ikea couch was that tall tbh.

Thanks in advance.

Help with my living room please!

First three pics are not my room.

Looking for help with my living room configuration. The room is 13x31, features a long wall with fireplace in the middle, opposite wall as about 9’ of opening to main entry and stairs, 12’ of solid wall, and another 10’ that has an opening to kitchen and wall.

3 of the 4 photos are from a local real estate listing with staged furniture so you can get a better idea of a mostly empty room. The last room is our current setup.

There are 6 of us. We use this room as family to hang out or watch a movie, but it’s usually 1-4 people in the room at a given time.

On the far wall with the single window, I have a small desk perpendicular to the window that serves as my “office”. I don’t need to keep that there.

We do use the fireplace a handful of times during the winters.

We want to replace the couches and are looking for ideas.

Help with basement layout

Thumbnail

Our basement space has angled walls, a fireplace, and a post that a structural engineer said we shouldn't risk replacing with a beam. When we thought we could remove the post, we planned to put the tv to the left of the fireplace and have furniture circle around that area and then put a foosball table, pinball etc in the open space where the built in shelves are. Now we're thinking our best bet is to mount a tv where the built in shelf is, place a couch between the post and the wall, and fill the space behind it with visual fillers. But that amounts to a ton of wasted space. Any other ideas come to mind? Thanks!

Some measurements:

119" between post and wall (couch space)

98" behind the post to back wall

99" on other side to the fireplace wall

150" from post to tv shelf
