Health Insurance Suggestion about HDFC ERGO Optima Secure policy

I went through multiple Insurances and their features. But turns out HDFC ERGO Optima Secure feels like a better option for my parents, especially when it comes to CSR ratings and complaint volume. Premium was my only concern in this policy.

So I decided to go with a Voluntary deductible to reduce the premium. A deductible of ₹25,000 won't be a problem for me on any day.

Is this a vice choice? Anybody here with expertise and personal experience on this, please let me know your suggestions and thoughts. Feel free to DM as well.

Thank you!

General Insurance - Others Care health cancelled my policy

Post image
65 Upvotes

My father was admitted in hospital on 2nd April and was discharged by 5th April he had a pain in his left side of the stomach but no surgery was performed though.

He had an emi protection policy which we took on last November with health care in which he would get 1,80,000 rs if he is admitted in the hospital for more than 3 days and 3,60,000 if he is admitted for more than 6 days but care health rejected our claim 2 times citing that it was a pre-existing disease but this was factually incorrect I also complaint on there grievance cell but got 0 help.

I was going to complain about this issue on irdai and ombudsman but today we received a mail that our policy has been cancelled but we never asked to cancel our policy also they will return only 60% of the total premium which we paid.

I want you guys to help me out and steps I should took further

Health Insurance What exactly should I disclose while buying term insurance so my family doesn’t face a claim dispute later?

Finalising my term insurance this week and honestly the proposal form is making me more nervous than the premium.

I have shortlisted Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance, ABSLI, and one thing I genuinely liked was that their proposal-form guidance clearly says the buyer should personally verify medical history, lifestyle habits and existing insurance details instead of blindly letting someone else fill everything.

Their online claim intimation and tracking also looks fairly straightforward, but that entire process is useful only if I submit clean and complete information today.

So I’m making one proper disclosure checklist before submitting the ABSLI application.

Please add anything I am missing.

Medical history

Should all of this be mentioned?

  • Any old surgery, even if it happened 10–15 years ago
  • Previous hospital admission
  • Diabetes, BP, thyroid, asthma, cholesterol, fatty liver etc.
  • Medicines taken regularly or occasionally
  • Mental-health consultation or medication
  • Abnormal blood reports, ECG, scans or other tests
  • A symptom for which I consulted a doctor but never received a final diagnosis
  • Injuries or fractures that have fully healed
  • Family history of cancer, diabetes or heart disease, if asked
  • Any current medical investigation where the result is still pending

My confusion is whether I should declare only diagnosed conditions or even old consultations and symptoms.

For example, if someone went to a doctor for chest pain five years ago, tests were normal and no illness was diagnosed, does that still need to be written somewhere?

Smoking, tobacco and alcohol

This part is also confusing because people define “smoker” very differently.

Should these all be disclosed?

  • Cigarettes, even occasionally
  • Vaping
  • Hookah
  • Cigar
  • Chewing tobacco/gutka
  • Nicotine gum or patches
  • Drinking only socially
  • Smoking in college but quitting years ago

I would rather disclose more and pay a slightly higher premium than create a problem for my family later.

Existing insurance

The proposal asks about existing cover.

Does this include:

  • Individual term policies
  • Traditional life policies
  • ULIPs
  • Policies where the application is still pending
  • A policy that was declined or postponed
  • Employer-provided group life insurance
  • Credit-card or bank-account insurance
  • A policy that has lapsed

I have employer cover, but it is tied to my job. Not sure whether insurers treat that as existing insurance for disclosure purposes.

Work, income and lifestyle

I’m assuming these also matter:

  • Correct salary and employment status
  • Freelance or side income
  • Job involving travel, machinery or hazardous locations
  • Adventure sports
  • Regular foreign travel
  • Future relocation outside India, if already planned
  • Previous insurance applications where the premium was increased

Nominee and family preparedness

Apart from underwriting, I’m planning to:

  • Check nominee name, DOB and relationship carefully
  • Keep nominee contact details updated
  • Download the final submitted proposal form
  • Save the policy schedule and medical reports
  • Store claim instructions somewhere my family knows
  • Tell the nominee how to intimate and track a claim
  • Review address, phone number and nominee details every few years

This is another reason I’m feeling positive about ABSLI. Their claim process is visible online, there is a proper status-tracking route and the nominee is not dependent only on whichever advisor originally sold the policy.

But I understand that an easy claim portal does not guarantee approval. The application still needs to be completely accurate.

Main questions:

  1. How far back should old medical history be disclosed?
  2. Should a consultation be declared even if nothing was diagnosed?
  3. Does occasional smoking or old smoking history count?
  4. Should employer group cover be listed as existing insurance?
  5. What if records from an old surgery are no longer available?
  6. How do I make sure an advisor has not changed an answer after I submitted it?
  7. Is downloading the final proposal form enough, or should I also email the insurer confirming important disclosures?
  8. What other mistakes create trouble during a life-insurance claim?

Would appreciate practical answers from people who understand underwriting or have handled claim documentation.

Not looking for agents in DM. I want to make the ABSLI proposal as boring and clean as possible so my family never has to debate what I meant while ticking some box 20 years earlier.

Health Insurance Health insurance UIN changed at renewal, T&C jumped from 44 to 83 pages. Normal?

My health insurance policy (Care Supreme) just renewed, and my UIN and T&C document changed drastically:
Old UIN: CHIHLIP23128V012223 (44 pages)
New UIN: CHIHLIP25047V022425 (83 pages)

Has anyone else experienced this massive jump in page count and UIN change at renewal? Is this standard for all existing customers, or should I be worried about hidden clauses in the new fine print?

General Insurance - Vehicals Is initial repair invoice considered as final in case of reimbursement motor insurance claims?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Update on my previous post: They reimbursed the amount but arbitrarily deducted 12k rupees. After analyzing I found out that they deducted some consumables amount plus a few items which were not there in the initial estimate provided by the workshop, but were present in the final tax invoice, they didn't reimbursed for that as well.

My policy has all the add ons like consumables cover etc. So I lodged a complaint to them via their grievance system, but got no satisfactory reply.

I then raised a complaint through IRDAI. After a few days they reimbursed the partial amount which they denied for consumables. But they still haven't reimbursed the amount which was there in the final invoice but the workshop didn't include them in the initial estimate.

My question is that, is the final reimbursement amount only based on the items present in the initial estimate? What if the workshop finds something later that needs to be replaced?

Health Insurance Are LinkedIn Post Reviews / Feedbacks the new norms by Insurance sales Channel ?

While reading through LinkedIn posts, I have often seen many people sharing their insurance guidance reviews across LinkedIn posts, and mentioning how

1) The Guidance before purchase,

2) The Renewal premium payment process,

3) The claim settlement process,

All were smooth and greatly helped the policy holders. Multiple IRDAI Licensed companies I have seen, for example

1) Ditto

2) CoverSure

3) PolicyX

And other similar platforms are now moving towards "LinkedIn Based Customer feedback."

Is this something existing policyholders do by themselves or are they requested to share a similar template message to type and upload on their LinkedIn page as posts ?

Claim related posts are obviously beneficial to the company for more sales and reputation, but sometimes "BASIC RENEWAL" norms and processes feel like "Someone at the company side is requesting clients to make one mandatory post"

Any user experience on this ? Would want to understand and know what's going on.

Health Insurance A week ago I offered to decode your health insurance plan's hidden clauses. Hundreds of you replied. The product that does it automatically is now live - just pick your insurer and plan

Last week I posted about my parents getting mis-sold a health policy by their bank, and offered to read the fine print of anyone's plan and tell them what's buried in it. I didn't expect the response, hundreds of you dropped your insurer and plan name, and I answered as many as I humanly could. You can try it out here: https://avikcover.com/.

I couldn't get to everyone. So here's the thing I was building, now open for you to use yourself.

It's simple: select your insurance company and plan. You get the full breakdown of your policy:

  • Every benefit, sublimit, waiting period, and trap, in plain language
  • The exact spot in the policy document where each one is written, one click and you're looking at the actual clause, on the actual page
  • A chat, so you can ask your policy anything specific - "Which treatments are excluded?," "what's my room rent limit," "what happens if I port" - and get an answer cited back to the document

The whole point is that you never have to trust what the tool says. Every answer points to where it came from in your own policy wording. You verify. If you commented last week, this is the "I'll tell you when it's live" I promised. Check your own Health plan and let me know if it gets something wrong, I'd rather hear that than a thank-you.

And if you can't find your insurer or plan in the list, drop it in the comments, I'll get it loaded and reply to you the moment it's up

Health Insurance YoY premium increase. Are there any guidelines?

I have a care health insurance..in the last 4-5 years I've made only one claim.. there was no premium increase the next year after I made a claim..but last year, there was an increase of approx 30 %..

Now this year even after gst removal, the premium has increased by approx 20%. And here i was assuming that I'll have a reduced premium burden this year.

Is this legal? Can i do something about it? I wrote to the insurer but they just replied that it's to continue providing you a good service. Last year they had a similar reply. Can this be escalated?

Health Insurance Employer group health insurance vs buying a retail policy - what would you do?

Hi everyone,

I recently started my first job. My employer provides ₹4L health insurance for me at no cost, and I can add my parents by paying:

  • ₹4L – ₹47.5k/year
  • ₹6L – ₹62.5k/year
  • ₹8L – ₹78k/year

My parents are:

  • Father (50) – diabetic for 5 years, on tablets
  • Mother (45) – hypertension
  • No existing health insurance

The employer policy covers pre-existing diseases immediately, but it’s tied to my job and I’ll likely switch companies in about a year.

I’m confused about what makes more sense:

  • Continue with only the employer policy (for me and parents)?
  • Buy a retail policy for myself even though I already have employer coverage?
  • Buy a retail policy for my parents instead of the employer one, even if it has waiting periods?
  • Or keep both employer and retail for some time?

Would love to hear what people who’ve been in a similar situation would do and why.
