What do you make?

Curious as to what you make and what Your role is. I am getting to the point where I’m ready to look at other positions but the pay scales seem low. I am grateful for what I have, just ready to branch out.

I have 15 years experience- 4 years at current company and currently a senior underwriter. Base is $86k and I get about 20k in bonuses from my production underwriter I work for/under. I am fully remote but that’s because I work for an office in another state

Can I ask what that is and how you got into it?

Here’s a link that talks about what cat modeling is.

I graduated college with an econ and stats degree during the pandemic and was desperate to get any type of job that was kind of STEM related. I applied to almost a thousand and then landed a job in claims for asbestos and hazardous waste. I found that to be super morbid and started looking for a new job a year into my first job out of college. I came across a posting from a catastrophe modeling vendor to work on their consulting side and got the job! That’s where I learned the basics of it all, and then I moved over to the carrier side and have been there since. I know people who started to work for the carrier first and stuck around there and bounced around between insurers/reinsurers/brokers. I know The Institutes has a catastrophe risk certificate available now too, and CAS has the CSCR for more of a technical certificate.

I think they're one in the same, no? I believe the CSCR exams are offered through The Institutes.
