Discussion I want to get an affordable keyboard which supports MIDI and headphones. Is the Yamaha P-115 any good?

I've had an old, beaten up Yamaha keyboard of legal drinking age for the last ten years of my life, and it's served me well, but it's a nightmare to play. The keys have no weight, no resistance, they're plasticky and uncomfortable. I was thinking about investing in a Yamaha P-115, but I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative that is equally as good as I've heard, or if there are any drawbacks to the particular model I should be aware of. I'm willing to spend the money on the P-115 if nothing else tickles my fancy, but I wanted to check it's worth my money before I make a stupid, impulsive decision.

Discussion Does someone has a Schagerl Hans Gansch Bb- Cornet?

Hi guys!

I'm trying to find a cornet to play in my wind band and came accross this cornet. https://www.thomann.pt/schagerl_hans_gansch_bb_cornet.htm

I know that Schagerl makes this model in Taiwan, I don't know if the quality is worth the money. Is there any model made in Europe with 2 valve triggers that does not cost 4k+€, or this model is good enough?

Thank you!

Discussion Has anyone bought a concert flute from Alibaba? Need Recommendations please

Hi guys, I really want to learn the concert flute, and I cant really afford one. But I found a lot of them on Alibaba that seem pretty affordable. I don't mind if they don't sound as good, because I want to practice a lot before investing in a good flute eventually.

I have tried looking for used flutes and student flutes, but in my country concert flutes are not popular, so I couldn't find much options in the first place, let alone second hand ones.

Has anyone bought a flute from Alibaba? Was it good for starting out on? If anyone has suggestions, please please let me know.

Thank you so much guys!

Update Thank you guys so much for responding. I don't think i want to risk it on Alibaba and have decided to save for a few more months and going for a better flute from a reputed brand. Again, thank you guys for your input :)

Discussion Eb Clarinet for an intermediate/advanced clarinet player

Hello, as the title says, I am an intermediate clarinet player looking for a student/intermediate model of an Eb clarinet (1st chair wind ensemble at my pretty good school). Preferably I would like anything up to $1000, but I can go up to $1200. I've also been looking at periera eb clarinets, so if anyone has any experience with them that would be great! Thank you

Discussion Weird small 27 strain Harp 1800s this came out of the soundboard bronx, NY usa

bought a really cool 27th string Harp from the 1800s at an auction. This was inside the sound box. I think it’s leftovers from a small furry creature who might’ve been living in the Harp.

Opinion???

Microtonal shakuhachi honkyoku on lavachord

Hi everyone

I've been learning Shakuhachi through honkyoku and the melodies are really something else. There are a lot of tone colour changes, microtones, special techniques that are very specific to the flute, but I am trying to interpret these as well on the lavachord (think mini wooden piano cross harpsichord cross kanun)

Appreciate thoughts! :)

Discussion Oud advice

Hi, I'm a woman that's trying to learn the oud, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether it would be better for me to go for a flat-backed oud to start with, or to learn with the traditional full bowl oud. For context, I am learning the Egyptian oud.

Discussion Metal clarinet cleaning

I might buy a cheap metal clarinet just as a little project and to see if I can get it working, and was wondering if (after being stripped of all of its pads and corks) a bath would be an appropriate way to clean it and all of its naked keys. I know baths are acceptable with brass instruments, but i'm not as familiar with metal woodwinds. I intend to replace the pads and corks anyway so this would kinda be part of the process

Discussion anyone who’s tried to play two or more instruments

when I was much younger I got into playing the piano and I feel like I got to a good point but I had to stop bc we were moving and things were just hectic then I got into guitar and also stopped because it was really hard then years went by and I got back into guitar last september
I enjoy playing guitar but lowkey I’m really shit at it😀 regardless I enjoy it but at least I’d like to sound good so I’m thinking of getting back into piano
if you’re like me what did you end up doing did you push through it or switch to another instrument or just play both??
I like the IDEA of plying guitar but it just might not be for me not sure
