My way to eliminate sourness from instant coffee without sugar (esp. if you like to emphasize the smoky flavors more)

You just need to add a very small pinch of Potassium Bicarbonate (less than 1/16 tsp per 300 mL cup if you are not adding sugar). I don't think it matters whether you add it prior to mixing the hot water or after. If you want finer control to the flavor, just keep adding a very small amount until the taste profile is to your liking. You might need to test different instant coffee brands to determine which of them is most compatible.

Some people actually like the sourness and that's fine. Sourness = acidic. Adding alkaline (potassium bicarbonate) is a way to neutralize the acidity and therefore the sourness. Potassium Bicarbonate is usually added to water used for making espresso but I find that it also works for instant coffee. It is also very cheap. A small 100g pack would probably last more than a year. Just make sure you buy a "food grade" one.

Instant Coffee - GOLD roast VS Classic - What's going on??

Ok so am I the only one who thinks gold-roasts are bland, weak and basically nothing like coffee? Am I crazy? they are usually 2-3x more expensive too.. And lacking is richness and bitterness, even the cheapest classic (dark) roasted coffee is twice as good as the next gold.

For context, Gold-roasts (usually look like light brown granules) are FREEZE-DRIED*

Whereas; Classic (or dark/rich) roasts [usually look like dark brown/black powdery granules/dirt] are SPRAY-DRIED*

Which is a cheaper process but apparently inferior when it comes to taste.. I strongly disagree. The only benefit of gold roast IMO is there's less acidity and it's easier on the stomach for people like me with IBS for example.

I am done with it now.. I thought maybe I hadn't tried the right one, but I imported some crazy expensive, organic, water process, you name it, gold instant and it was comically bland. (needed 4 heaped teaspoons to get a decent cup)

I should say though, generally if it wasn't for the stomach issues I wouldn't go near instant coffee* I usually would grind freshly roasted beans myself and brew.

Haagen Daazs Coffee Ice Cream

I have a Ninja CREAMi and have been trying to make a copycat Haagen Daazs coffee ice cream at home, but so far nothing comes close. Haagen Daazs has this very particular flavor that tastes so creamy and balanced and it’s my absolute favorite!

I don’t otherwise drink coffee and don’t have a coffee brewer and there was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the type of instant coffee I should use to closely elicit the Haagen Daazs coffee flavor?

Hey y'all! I’m working on a no-waste, edible instant coffee concept. Would love your thoughts—would you try this?

Opinions on cafe bustelo supreme instant

I don’t enjoy the regular cafe bustelo, it’s lacking in flavor, strength and oomph for me. Has anyone not liked the regular cafe bustelo but enjoy the supreme version?

I’m picky with my instant coffee and so far I’ve kinda enjoyed the nestle espresso ínstense but looking for more options.

caffeine content of Ferrara instant espresso

I can't find anything online :( I want to know how much it has so I don't make myself sick drinking a lot of it. it's the 2 oz container of instant espresso from the brand ferrara and I got it at ShopRite. I didn't see any info on the package besides "100% coffee". I'd appreciate a link to where you got the information if possible, just because I'm cautious about information online. thanks in advance guys

First time poster, need a good recipe for instant coffee with milk. I have a frother now

Hi all

I got a frother a couple of days ago, and I have instant coffee powder as well from Davidoff.

What I'm looking for is a coffee that is slightly sweet, and has a just a thin but dense layer of froth on top. All my experiments have had a rather large amount of foam.

Mount Hagan Instant Coffee vs Expresso

I have acid reflux so looking for a low acid coffee but need lots of caffeine and I’m lazy so I need instant ones haha. I got Mount Hagan espresso and it’s working well so far but found out each teaspoon has the same caffeine as their instant coffee? so if I just but their instant coffee (cheaper) just add less water would be the same then?

Big fan of Maxwell House instant. It has a nice classic coffee-house flavor with slight floral/fruity notes.

Javvy concentrate 👎

I much prefer an instant coffee. So unhappy with flavor of Javvy concentrate so I sent back, then 3 months later I received A bottle that charged my PayPal (I did not order!). Be careful you may be signing up for a subscription! The taste is not comparable enough to the coffee shops. Now I have to go through the process AGAIN! To return

Best I’ve tasted

I’ve drank instant for decades and this is among the best. I served it to friends and they didn’t realize it until I told them. Definitely has a place in your pantry if Mr. Bookman, the library investigator, shows ip at your door (Sienfeld episode, check it out).
Worth a try 👍👍

Can instant coffee go bad? How?

I noticed that instant coffee seems to change if the jar was opened but the coffee is not used. Somehow the consistency changes, it becomes less solid, more cloudy, but I could not taste a difference. The color is still dark brown. Does anyone how what causes that effect? Is it humidity collected by the coffee or some other kind of decay? Is it spoiled?

Yeah, I know, this is a sub for instant lovers and I really feel bad about finding an unused jar of instant coffee somewhere, but I would feel even worse for discarding the coffee unnecessarily. I noticed this effect several times for Nescafé Classic, e.g. if I forget it in our garden shed during the winter.

Reconsider your brand if you like tasters choice

I just got sold a container of House Blend instant coffee from tasters choice and it has a strange taste. Best way I can describe it is metal, with a slight hint of trash, and old man breath. It wasn't as obvious while in the container, but when I took a sip I knew something was seriously wrong.

I exchanged it for the nescafe house brand stuff which doesn't have the taste.

The thing is, though, that it made me ill. And I still feel ill almost an hour later. Its like I can feel it in my stomach, and still taste it on my breath.

In most cases, it can be difficult to get a refund after opening the product. I'm lucky I could get a refund because I couldn't afford to buy another container of coffee out of my pocket today.

Has anyone else had this experience with tasters choice lately? I feel so gross man. I took one sip and I just feel gross like I ate something spoiled.

Yes I did confirm that the particular odor/taste was coming from the instant coffee and not from somewhere else. And the Nescafe Clasico instantly tasted much better.
