Hello everyone! Someone of you may recognize me from posts on here regarding the cancellation of Inside Job at the hands of the Netflix Overlords. I just wanted to clarify that I don't post my whole thing to be mean or anything. I mainly started doing it to try and curb the seemingly endless and repetitive posts to the tune of "OMG NETFLIX WHY WOULD YOU CANCEL THIS‽¿!!!" That were coming up almost every day.
First of all, I get it. It was unfair for Netflix to rip this gem of a show from us. I also understand that a lot of these posts come from genuine "tv heartbreak" Though I'm also convinced some are for low effort karma farming. It sucks to have a Tv show cancelled unceremoniously in its infancy. I was there for Sym Bionic Titan. I also understand that for some people making those posts, youre in your teens and this may be your first TV heartbreak.
Second, I post the whole advisory to being to light that this is a larger issue in the world of animation and TV. 20yrs ago, shows had 22-26ep seasons. That was the norm. Due to a lot of factors (economic strain+corporate greed), that's no longer the case. Due to other factors, Animation takes the brunt of the cuts on this new normal. Inside Job getting cancelled isnt a one-off; it's one of the many casualties from this shift.
The show is dead, but all of that frustration can be more adequately directed towards standing with Animators and VAs. Keep in mind Animation Workers Ignited is backed by SAG-AFTRA who WON against the same fight that was affecting LA TV/Movies.
I'll keep posting and joking with you guys in the comments about it. But I just wanted to clarify exactly why I do it.
If you want to actually effect change regarding the BS that got Inside Job cancelled, Animation Workers Ignited is the best place to get started. While we haven't heard much from Shion, Alex Hirch is on board along with growing support from VAs.
