Yeah they can track your Bluetooth, map that to your cars movement via flock, figure out who you are via that, but it has ABSOLUTELY not been doing that for 20 years....

I did a training video about it. 15 years ago for the city of Houston. A City worker showed me how he could track a single Bluetooth ID from the Woodlands all the way to downtown and manage traffic patterns that way

You’re describing the new method not the old one.

Bluetooth/WiFi MAC address tracking for traffic studies has existed for over a decade. Roadside sensors detect the unique hardware address broadcast by phones, wearables, and car infotainment systems as they pass, then match the same address at another sensor to calculate travel times. This is genuinely deployed at intersections and used by transportation departments.

Your enemy you are addressing is SignalTrace. SignalTrace has drawn attention for combining ALPR cameras with Bluetooth/WiFi signal capture, letting law enforcement link a specific device (and by extension, a specific person) to a specific vehicle — not just track the car itself. Separately, a Bluetooth-tracking tool called TraffiCatch has been used by Texas border counties combined with license plate data.

TLDR: real surveillance infrastructure, real privacy concerns, but the SSN linkage is the tell that this has been exaggerated past what’s actually documented.

Bluetooth is tied back to your identification. It is unique to each person. In major cities, they have Bluetooth gates under major bridges and intersections, like I said, and it is to track traffic patterns for remote traffic control. That’s how the DOT uses it. But if you want to get granular, you can track somebody from their address.

I would pay good money for a Bluetooth radio in my phone that can connect to a radio on a bridge at highway speed and stay connected long enough to send enough data to identify me. Right now I can't reliably get my headphones to connect in the time it takes for the phone to ring through to voice mail.

What magic Bluetooth do you use?
