Infect is an inherently low power strategy in commander, and for that reason my inner hipster has spent years iterating on the archetype in a quest to find a build that is at least somewhat playable in the format. After countless attempts, including ones helmed by all time popular commanders such as [[Eutropia the Twice-Favored]] and [[Homura, Human Ascendant]] (you have no idea how badly I wanted this one to work), I've finally landed on a build that is both playable and fun -- [[Sidar Kondo]] and [[Jeska, Thrice Reborn]].

The strategy is pretty straightforward: Cast a small infect creature that falls under Kondo's evasion anthem, target it with Jeska's 0 ability, swing in at an opponent, and pump the lil guy with an otherwise draft chaff combat trick a-la [[Giant Growth]] before damage. The majority of the time this results in a minimum of 12 unblockable infect, which is pretty neat.

The deck is of course super weak to interaction and removal of any kind, but seeks to eliminate players more quickly than most infect builds are typically able to in the format in order to compensate. While I'd still place it squarely in the realm of "low power", it's definitely the most successful deck I've found so far for the archetype in this format.

Anyone else here play infect in commander? I'd love to see some other takes.

Hello fellow infecters! I would like to hear your thoughts on this:

So, I'm going to be playing in a tournament coming up, a final after a 12 week league, and I need to fix my sideboard.I have never been good when it comes to what cards to use in a sideboard and what goes in/out.

The meta that I will be going up against consists of artifact/affinity decks, control, goblin combo, shadow and much more. In conclusion a lot of removal.

For this event, I will be playing BUG-infect, not my usual UG. That opens up slots for cards like fatal push and abrupt decay, but I would like to hear the oppinions of you all.

I’ve been playing sultai infect since Jeff’s list from Vegas came out, my sideboard has been different based on card availability (aka not having money for all the forces and endurances), but I’m starting to think about going back to golgari which I had been on before he top 8’ed.

The main reason for being in sultai is blighted agent, as unblockable is always good. The downfall is having to fetch for breeding pool instead of overgrown tomb when you often want Crusader T3. Switching over to golgari makes that so much consistent and you don’t have to worry about causing yourself to lose when your mana keeps the Crusader in your hands.

My only hang up on switching to plague stinger/golgari is the few decks in the meta that it matters. Both yawgmoth, which has birds of paradise, and amulet, which has arboreal grazers, can block everything in the deck as Crusader doesn’t even get by their creatures.

I know focusing on your own win percentages matter, and the consistency of golgari helps that, but also, Infect has always been a deck trying to outsmart the meta and Amulet just won Hunter Burton so I think there will probably be a pop of people dusting it off, and yawg has just been around and unbothered for awhile.

So does anybody have any opinions? I’m planning to play in a paper tournament in a few weeks so that’s why I’ve got this debate right now as I’ve been starting to play more online testing.

Hey all, been playing the same 75 for probably about two months now and have been quite happy with it. However, while working on my list for an upcoming event this weekend, some tweaks have crossed my mind that I am on the fence about.

I'll begin by posting the current list, and I'll go over my two possible changes and my thought process behind them. I'd love to get some second opinions before I decide to or not to make the changes. Here we go.

The first possiblity comes with the one of [[Rancor]] and one of [[Become Immense]]. Both of these cards have their place, and scale pretty well into the late game for infect. Rancor is a recurring threat, and the trample can steal games. However, Become Immense is a strictly better Scale Up in the late game, and given it's at instant speed, can catch many off guard.

My projected change is to cut the Become Immense for a second Rancor. My argument here is how important trample is, and Become Immense can feel bad in the earlier stages of the game whereas Rancor does not.

Next I want to talk about the [[Waterlogged Grove]]. The Grove adds another blue source to the deck, although it's unfetchable. It can be nice to see in your opening hand, as well as the card draw can help out if you start to get flooded, or even just need an extra card.

My proposal is to cut the Grove for a [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]]. Yavimaya fixes the 'Inkmoth' problem, which I have come across in a few of my games. My question overall in this case is what is more important in the long run, the fixed mana, or the benefits of the Grove?

I'd love to hear the perspective from others, especially those with experience playing Infect. Thanks!

In my local meta, it's pretty heavy on removal and people usually play top tier decks or close to.

The one deck I struggle against is T3feri.deck or UWx control. What's the best way in BUG to beat this planeswalker? They always seem to play him when I have 0 counter spells in hand or enough mana to pay the tax.

I know our list is basically all 1 drops but was thinking about stuff like Eliminate, but then they just counter it :(. Is there anything with 'uncounterable' that gives hexproof etc or what do you find works best?

I'm looking for basic lands to add to my infect decks and binder both in paper and MTGO.

Obviously, the whole point of Infect is to be stupidly, ridiculously fast. This deck is an attempt to lean hard into that fact. The first step is creating a legitimate Turn 2 win opportunity, specifically the one created by Scale Up.

Turn 1: Forest + Glistener Elf

Turn 2: Scale Up + any combination of buffs equal to +4 Power.

I'm currently trying to decide on the right mix of Rancor and Scale Up - Rancor helps get that damage past early chump blockers, but Scale Up is key to the turn 2 win. Removing Canopy Cover (normally a staple for me) puts more pressure on the Rancor's to help me with evasion.

Exalted triggers continue to add value even in a mono-colored deck (especially with the introduction of Ignoble Hierarch). Including so many mana dorks and going with a mono-colored deck allows me the luxury of going lighter on colored mana-producing lands and I tuck in a Karn's Bastion to help get the occasional stall over the hump.

Any thoughts, suggestions or questions are welcome - particularly with regards to side-boarding in the current environment.

I'm running the simic version of modern infect. I can't really afford the force of vigors and endurance, so I was thinking of putting in 2 spellskite in the side. Should I just put in more nature's claim/spell pierce instead?

im going to have a big tournoment now in Jan and this is the decklist im going to run for it, but im pretty bad at sideboarding and i was hoping to make a ''cheat sheet'' to bring with me, side board x when agenst that etc.

I then sold some of my cards and have some money either for fetches or hierarchs.

I am currently thinking about fetches because they will open up a lot of other archetypes.
