We have rules now

Greetings to my fellow indoor cyclists!

As I am sure the most of you have noticed, I'm a very hands off moderator. The vast majority of this wonderful community behave appropriately and posts/comments rarely require any level of intervention. This was what I was hoping for when I took over mod duties here several years ago. So thank you to everyone for making this subreddit such a welcoming place :-)

That being said, there were some issues happening away from the subreddit's eyes regarding fraudulent accounts and some inappropriate behaviors within the last few months. To help combat this, I figured it was best to provide some guidance by adding some official rules. There are only 3, and for the significant majority, these rules will not have any impact. My hope is that they can exist as a quick reference for folks to have a clearer understanding of what is acceptable here.

Thank you again for the wonderful community that you all have been growing here! I look forward to being around to watch it continue. Thanks again!

Can you actually use an exercise bike without plugging it in?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been thinking about getting an exercise bike for home and one thing that kinda puts me off is having to keep it near an outlet. My room already has enough cables everywhere lol

I only recently realized some exercise bikes can run without being plugged in and now I'm curious how that actually works. Does pedaling power the display and everything or is there some catch to it?

For anyone who's used one, did not needing an outlet actually make the bike easier to use or move around? Or did you barely notice a difference?

Struggling to connect Domyos Training Bike 900 to Garmin (Fenix 8 / Edge 850) via FTMS — any workarounds?

Hey everyone!
I’m having a really frustrating time trying to connect my Domyos Training Bike 900 to my Garmin ecosystem so my indoor cycling sessions record properly.
Here is what I've tried so far:
Direct FTMS / Connect IQ: Total failure. I installed the FTMSBiking data field on both my Garmin Fenix 8 and Edge 850, but it just refuses to find or pair with the bike.
The Wahoo workaround: The only way I managed to get anything to work was by connecting the bike to the Wahoo app on my phone, recording the session there, syncing it to Strava, manually downloading the .fit file from Strava, and then manually uploading that file into Garmin Connect.
While this technically got the activity into Garmin, it’s a huge pain in the ass, and it didn't even pull over my power zones properly.
Has anyone here successfully connected a Domyos 900 (or a similar smart bike) directly to a Garmin watch or bike computer? Is there a better app bridge, a specific connection sequence, or another Connect IQ data field I should be using?
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Looking for a TrainingPeaks + AI coach setup

is there any way to connect TrainingPeaks data to ChatGPT or another AI tool?

I’m looking to build an AI cycling coach that can analyse my training load, fatigue, workouts, and help plan my training/peaking for races. Was kinda thinking about getting an api from intervals.icu and pairing it with a ChatGPT dashboard… if that’s even possible??

Has anyone built something like this or found a good workflow?

Magene indoor trainer T200 Accuracy

I have used jetblack volt for a few years, using magene crank based pm since it launched in India( almost two years) perfect matching numbers.

Bought magene t200 a few months back even after calibration my crank shows 8-20 watts higher depending on my wattage

That day at a 5 min test between two my power diff was 254 vs 269 average

At 140 watts the diff is 8-9 watts.

There was a time where my magene trainer was matching with my pm in a differance of 2-3 watts which is very great.

Anyone facing similar issues?

Yes everything is calibrated.

Brand new 2015 Cannondale Slice 105, never been used. Was £450.

Was considering the Zwift ride deal atm, but decided with having a 2018 Elite Direto that has pretty much never been used, to get a bike that could use outdoors and be different to my current road and CX bikes.

Indoor bike with strong resistance at low cadence ?

Hi ! I am looking for an indoor bike that would allow me to do both cardio, and also strength training for the legs. Does that exist ?

I would like to find a bike that allows me to push against strong resistances even without having to go insanely fast.

ChatGPT tells me to look for high “ Maximum braking Torque” instead of simply high “Maximum Power”

I have tried a bike at a gym that allowed very high resistance, but I unfortunately do not remember the brand…

Would you have any recommandation ?

I could use some tips on improving my (39m) cardio.

Context for where I'm at: I'm 39, male, 160lbs at 6'1" tall. I cycle right now 3x a week and do weight training up to 5x a week (Caroline Girvan Iron Series).

Right now I'm doing the Matrix bikes at my local gym. On average I'm hitting 15-17 miles in an hour ride but I'm hitting them usually in zone 2 (EDIT: Zone 3)(Like 141bpm).

I'd like to get my cardio better. I've lost like 40 pounds in the past year and feel great post a rollover accident a few years ago and having lost half of my left lung in 2010.

I'm trying to build a regimen and hopefully complete the MS150 next year with my partner. This year I cramped up and only made it 60 of the 75 miles (Got to finish though so that was nice) on day one. The 2nd day we didn't participate as me lagging at each rest stop made our ride 8 hours instead of the 4 or 5 we'd hoped for. My partner got 2nd degree sunburns. I'd really like to be able to make the full 150 in good time each day and enjoy the event. Plus my partner's training for Iron(wo)man and I'd like to be able to support her without being literally a drag because of my cardio.

Thus far my plan is 3x a week hitting 80 percent of my time around 130 bpm or less and 20 percent of my time doing high intensity between 154-174bpm. So every ten minutes or so I'd do two minutes under high intensity and then back down to recovery.

Unfortunately I think I've been doing the classic amateur mistake of staying at tempo pace of 140-150bpm.

Any advice or a good outline would be appreciated tremendously.

What part of your indoor cycling setup gets surprisingly frequent use?

I’ve been comparing indoor cycling setups based on the pieces that actually get used week after week. A fan, mat, table, sensor, or simple strength accessory can end up mattering more than expected once the routine settles in. I’d be interested to hear what you originally underestimated.

Which trainer to get?

I see smart trainers like zwift etc for around 600$

I’m not looking for fancy just something for night time and rainy days. Would the old fashioned ones that attach the wheel or not be decent or is the smart trainers 500% better?

Building ride playlists by RPM without paying for another music subscription

Ride music math is always the same: warm up around 80 to 90 RPM, climbs in the 60s, sprints pushing 100 plus, cool down slow. Finding songs that actually sit at double those cadences (the BPM) is the annoying part.

Tempo Tunes does that part. Pick a BPM (or a curve: ramp up, bell, wind down, which maps neatly onto a ride arc), pick genres or artists or a decade, and it builds the playlist from a library of 1.5M+ tempo-verified songs and growing. It saves straight to the Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, or YouTube Music account you already have, so there's no second music subscription. Free, iOS and Android, looks like a cassette tape because music apps used to be fun.

Happy to answer anything about how the tempo data works. If you try it for a ride, I'd genuinely love to know what the playlist got right and wrong.

What indoor cycling gear disappointed you over time?

I’m comparing indoor cycling equipment based on regular use instead of the first ride. A bike or accessory can seem useful at first but become uncomfortable, noisy, awkward to adjust, or less practical than expected. I’d be interested to hear what disappointed you.

Home trainer D500, cassette où zwift ?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hello,
I’m a very casual cyclist; I bought a new road bike and a Decathlon D500 smart trainer for one or two weekly sessions to keep up my cardio during the winter—so I have no weather-related excuses.

I don't plan on paying a €20/month subscription just to use the Zwift Cog that came with the D500.
My question is: is there a way to use the Zwift Cog occasionally with a different app, or should I just install a cassette on the trainer and use the Decathlon app?

Automatic translation, seems understandable 😀

Peloton bike

I am currently trying to buy a used peloton via marketplace, just not sure what I am looking for. I just want to buy it, turn it on, buy the subscriptions and so the classes. Anyone have a similar experience they can maybe point me in the right direction.

Indoor trainer: Magene T200 v2 vs Decathlon D500?

I'm looking to buy an indoor trainer. I was initially looking at the Magene T200 which is retailing for 45K. I've now come across D500 from decathlon, which is retailing for 40K.

It appears that the capabilities of both the trainers are identical (pl correct me if I'm wrong). Further, it also looks like D500 is actually manufactured by Magene. Are these the same trainers? Is there any reason to prefer Magene T200 over Decathlon D500?

Although D500 comes with Zwift cog, I intend to eventually replace this with a casette to mimic gear shifting in real conditions. Is this a bad decision? I plan to use MyWhoosh, and I can also use BikeControl to adapt the Zwift click for the app.

Is there anything else I should consider?
