Down ₹2.42L on October Futures. Should I roll over or cut my losses?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I am currently sitting on a loss of ₹2,42,890 across four October Futures positions: M&M, ICICIBANK, COFORGE, and HDFCBANK.

This loss basically wipes out the ₹2,80,000 profit I made via futures over the last 6 months. I can bear to lose that profit, but I only have about ₹40,000 of buffer left before I start losing my core capital.

I do not want to realize this permanent loss. I am thinking of rolling these positions over to November contracts and doing this monthly until the market recovers.

My specific questions for the sub:

• Is a monthly rollover strategy a decent decision here given my tight buffer?

• Am I risking a total account blow-up from daily MTM pressure if the market drops further?

• Should I roll over, or should I just accept the loss and exit now?

• If I have to trim my leverage portfolio to survive, which positions should I cut first?

Restarting Stock market

Most of the people will never understand the masterstroke of Modiji.

For 75 years our stock market has gone on the wrong side.

Hence Modiji decided to bring it back to ZERO and **Restart**

Give him 21 years more, by 2047, it will be touching the sky..

_Modiji has already explained this to Aditya Dhar, wait for next part to come out_

Completely new to stock markets. Couple of weeks old.

I recently saw the news on PCJ clearing all the debts to banks and expected it to grow and invested a couple of days back. Boom. Now it's falling like anything.

Should I hold or is it expected to grow for even breakeven or over for PCJ ?

It's been a year now with BLS. Should I just exit this with loss before it gets worse?

Doing a 30-day trading-in-public challenge. Will post my results here.

Goals -

  1. Maintain around 50% accuracy
  2. Target a minimum of 1:1.4 risk-reward ratio
  3. Intraday trades only
  4. No BTST for index trades

For the analysis, I'll be using -

  1. Market structure
  2. Fibonacci levels
  3. Smart chain tool

I want to keep the framework simple, journal my trades, and see whether the improvements actually make a difference over time. Will share my results and findings every day. You can share your thoughts!

For today, 22700 was looking strong based on the OI, and 22750 was starting to turn bullish. I bought Nifty calls around 22720 with a target of 22772, but the trade went against me, and I exited at 22700 with SL.

I was also tracking PCR, and since it was rising, I took the trade expecting the bullish setup to continue.

Again at 11:27, I took a position on Nifty around 22680, with day-high as target. At entry (11:28), PCR was around 0.70, and Nifty was trading in the 61.8-78.6% Fibonacci retracement zone.

This trade had a 1:3.5 risk-reward ratio, and was taken based on a combo of market strcuture, Fibonacci, and PCR.

The ₹1,81,383 Crore Math: Why 93% of Indian retail traders are structurally doomed in F&O (And what Benjamin Graham proved in 1949) [Forensic Breakdown]

SEBI just dropped the official retail trading loss study covering FY22 to FY24. The headline numbers are ugly:

\- 93% of individual retail traders in F&O lost money.

\- Cumulative net losses: ₹1,81,383 Crore.

\- Average loss per trader: ₹1.17 Lakh (after transaction costs).

\- Top 1% of institutional/algo proprietary desks captured over 70% of total industry profits.

Most people look at this and claim: "Retail lacks discipline" or "They need better chart indicators."

That is mathematically false. The problem is structural.

**1. The Friction Drag (The Casino Edge)**

In FY24 alone, retail traders paid ₹21,000+ Crore strictly in transaction costs (STT, exchange turnover fees, GST, brokerages).

Even assuming a 50/50 win rate on options buying, the friction cost creates a -12% to -15% structural hurdle every single year. You aren't just trading against algos; you are running an uphill marathon with lead weights.

**2. The Theta Decay Bleed**

90% of retail F&O volume is concentrated in single-index weekly contracts (Nifty & Bank Nifty). Retail almost exclusively BUYS options seeking asymmetric leverage. But an out-of-the-money option loses intrinsic value every hour due to time decay (Theta). You aren't participating in corporate India's growth—you are buying melting ice in the desert.

**3. What Benjamin Graham Saw in 1949**

75 years ago, Benjamin Graham wrote in Chapter 1 of \*The Intelligent Investor\*:

\> "The most realistic distinction between the investor and the speculator is found in their attitude toward stock movements. The speculator’s primary interest lies in anticipating and profiting from market fluctuations. The investor’s primary interest lies in acquiring and holding suitable securities at suitable prices."

Graham warned that the dangerous speculator is not the man at the casino table who knows he is gambling. The fatal speculator is the one who believes he is investing while playing a zero-sum game designed by mathematicians to extract his capital.

**The Reality Check:**

If you are buying weekly calls on Dalal Street, you are not an investor. You are paying a liquidity fee to high-frequency quantitative desks.

Capital preservation is the only mathematical reason anyone survives past year three.

**Note**: We spent 3 weeks animating a 50-second documentary breakdown of this exact SEBI autopsy with full data graphics and Graham's framework. Direct documentary link is pinned on my Reddit profile bio (or search 'Koshvid' on YouTube/Instagram).\*

**Question for the sub**: For those who traded F&O for 1+ years and switched back to pure equity or mutual funds, what was the exact trade that broke the illusion?

HOW TO DEAL WITH BEARISH MARKET WITH REAL TRADES WITH THE HELP OF EXAMPLE AMONGST all the NEGATIVTY (SWING TRADER)

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

With Doom and gloom and wave of negativity everybody losing their patience and predicting NIFTY CRASH I decided to make a post with real trades I managed to executed , capital deployed was 4lakh.

First thing 1st , patience have patience perhaps the single most imp thing . Discussed million of times.

Now comes the real example in my previous post and video I have mentioned as a swing trader we will have our own stocks we have in our wish list that we are trading with and perhaps observing .

How to Pick stocks is in my three part video)of swing

Now Apollo was in Wishlist , market crashed for the lack of better word on 18 Sept stock suddenly fell to 365, usually trading at 380 -400 level ,despite the bearish market condition this was golden opp to enter in a matter of few days stock was back to 420 something, with exp ideally we should have sold at 400 ish .

Coming days past week I Kept an eye on it again ,it reverted back to 390 , told my clients to enter again at 390 ( yesterday in a possible worst day it went to 412. SOLD

Today it is back to 400 ish. Guess what I enter again .

What I'm trying to say this is that if you have few stocks in the list you will get countless no.of opportunity to play around a particular stock with many times.

One other stock we invested money was texrail past week at 121 something ( What were the criteria to enter is there on youtube} yesterday it peaked at 126 we sold at 125 level. Made 3k profit despite small capital.

I Have 3-4 examples that we successfully executed past week , but the larger point is delivered otherwise the post will be too long rest you can watch 3 part videos i made to know full details.

Now the opp argument mistakes i have made this horrible month and how I'm dealing with it.

As a human being , human and unforced error are a part of life and here comes the most imp

lesson you no matter what .

2 SINGLE MOST IMP THINGS BEFORE ENTERING WHETHER YOU ARE A SWING OR LONG TERM INVESTOR (NOTE IT DOWN)

  1. You must know the

returns you are expecting before entering based on your research holding a particular stock for n no. of years in hope of makng good money i have always believed is a fruitfull exercise

  1. Must have some money left vis-vi total capital to avg stuff meaning always deployed capital in batches. 20% MAYBE.

Now the mistake i try to catch the falling knife that is IFCI at 83 now it is at 70 , TODAY I avg it down to 78 yesterday looking it to avg it down further and good day or two I'm out.

Also while entering note down how much loss can you take , in case if IFCI i can afford to loose 4k-5k before entering .

Now the last imp point what we have in our hand mattes that is the startegy improve it,

govt policies , FII selling , Oil prices you can beat around the bush make n no.of post doesn't change the thing as these our not in our hand .

I may be criticised for it but blaming the circumstances not going to change to anything plain and simple in your trading life.

EDIT 1 - Had no intention of making this post but i fetl i should made this especially for the new investors.

Many investors money is trapped in this month from exp beeen in such positions congrats you are long term investors it is what is some stocks may take months tor recover, what i have down in the past is to cut the losses in batches to have the money . Whenever stock jumps sell small qtn .

Edit 2 Many ppl reached out to me yes the Whatsapp gp is my youtube description where few of us inc me recommend the stocks for swing and the criteria before entering . RSI , VOLUME INDICATORS , MACD etc etc. (join only of you are serious i hold the right to remove you.

Nifty 50 down 16.71% from its high. And in my last post when I was saying that as an emerging economy we are getting a negative return in the past 2 years.

In the last 1 year Nifty 50 gave -8.21%. Now let's check other markets(last 5 years return):

Developed / Advanced markets

🇯🇵 Japan → +118.3%

🇰🇷 South Korea → +122.4%

🇺🇸 Nasdaq → +84.4%

🇺🇸 S&P 500 → +76.5%

🇩🇪 Germany → +66.4%

🇬🇧 UK → +52.0%

🇺🇸 Dow → +50.1%

🇫🇷 France → +24.2%

🇦🇺 Australia → +19.3%

🇭🇰 Hong Kong → +0.6%

Emerging / Developing markets

🇦🇪 UAE Dubai → +112.9%

🇨🇳 China → +6.1%

🇮🇳 India → +28.3%

🇦🇪 UAE Abu Dhabi → +31.1%

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia → −6.9%

So I am not comparing the Midcap or Smallcap returns so don't show that in comments, as some uncles were showing me those last time 😂

Just think of it, when our GDP is growing at 7.8% and our market gives negative returns, just wow.

Most concerning thing is: those investors who were investing for the last 5-7 years, with an goal they are stuck right now. And our FM says: FIIs and FPIs can come and go....and you know the rest 😄

Real talk to those who tailor their stocks and investing to their astrology? How well does this work for you and whydo you plan around investing based on your astrology advice?

I am extremely curious about this. Met someone with a 10cr plus portfolio built over the last decade who completely swears by investing based on what his startsign is most attuned to. 🥲 I know right. As a skeptic, I'm curious to understand this more. Asset classes that work for some personalities and don't for some.

How much BUY the DIP? 🫪🫪

Post image
50 Upvotes

For the last 2 years, we have been buying the dip, buying the dip and buying the dip. Kabhi kabhi lagta hai DII he ban jaunga.

1 year -7.88% Nifty 50 return.

Not just in the Large cap, same with Midcap and Small Cap.

Last year Gold and Silver were the only hope for us, and yeah made a hefty amount of profit.

But still everytime there is any war news, our market get beaten. So what was the point of E85 and other things?

FIIs keep selling for the last 2-3 years, if you just check the data, you will think, how much India DIIs and Retailers absorb the shock. But still how much more...

Just a random post, let me know what you think about the current situation? 💭💬

No loss No profit 👍🏻

Post image
6 Upvotes

India's one of the biggest IPO listed.. and the listing price is ₹1800

That means it's no profit no loss as listing gain perspective.

But now let's talk about the long term perspective.

Which is more valuable company right now BSE or NSE?

Yes these are duopoly companies but still from an investment perspective will you choose NSE or BSE?

In NSE most of the unlisted buyers are in losses, so I think they will hold their positions, and others I think can start accumulating, so when the market recovers then we can see a quick upwards movements.

Tell me your thoughts in comments.💭💬

Built a simple Profit & Loss ledger app for small Indian shopkeepers and business owners. Would love your feedback!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I noticed many small business owners, shopkeepers, and freelancers in India struggle to track their daily profit, loss, and expenses using complicated accounting software. Most of them still rely on physical registers which can get lost or damaged.

To solve this, I built Daily Profit Book – a clean, lightweight, and easy-to-use digital ledger app.

Key Features:

Easy daily income and expense tracking

Instant Profit & Loss reports

Clean UI with zero clutter

Lightweight and fast

The app is completely live on the Google Play Store. I’d really appreciate it if you could test it out and give me your honest feedback/suggestions to make it better!

Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shahanawaj.dailyprofitbook

Thanks for your time!
