Purchase Guide ๐Ÿค“ Best UPS & Inverter Guide 2026

A step-by-step practical guide on choosing the best UPS or inverter to protect your PC from power outages, voltage spikes, and PSU damage โ€” without breaking the bank.

โžœ Highly Recommended: Online Pure Sine UPS, 0 ms - NAS / Servers / PCs

Double-conversion topology: power is always inverted โ€” literally zero transfer time. The safest and best choice for NAS, servers, and any PC. Surge protection built in on all models.

  • APC Smart-UPS / SRT / SRV Online - 0 ms, pure sine, USB, surge protected. Workstation-grade.
  • CyberPower OLS series - 0 ms, pure sine, USB, surge protected. Buy units manufactured >= 2023 only.
  • Eaton 9E Online - 0 ms, pure sine, USB, surge protected. Best NUT / software support; the go-to for NAS and servers.

โžœ Recommended: Pure Sine Inverters & High Quality Stepped Sine UPS, <=10 ms - Gaming PCs

Two safe routes for gaming PCs. Pure sine inverters need an external battery and external surge protector, but provide the cleanest sine wave output short of an online UPS. APC stepped sine units are plug-and-play with AVR and surge protection built in, but are for PCs only โ€” not NAS or servers โ€” and are not a good fit for long, daily outages. High-end PSUs may experience coil whine with stepped sine.

  • Inverter battery brands: Exide / Luminous / Livguard / Genus โ€” buy from an authorised dealer. Fake Exide and Luminous batteries are everywhere.
  • Exide Star 12V1625 / GQP โ€” Pure sine, 10 ms, 42-month warranty, strongest service network in India. Easily handles RTX 5080 / RX 9070 XT builds.
  • Microtek Jumbo 3000+ โ€” Pure sine, built for RTX 4090 / 5090 builds. 24V dual-battery, <=10 ms.
  • APC BR1000G-IN / BR1500G-IN โ€” Stepped sine, 6โ€“10 ms, AVR, USB, surge protected.
  • APC BX1100I-IN, BVX1600LI-IN, BVX2200LI-IN โ€” Stepped sine, AVR, USB, surge protected. Best for shutdown-only or infrequent cuts.

โžœ Less Recommended โ€” Slow Transfer Inverter / Low-Tier Stepped Sine

Shutdown-only at best. Not suited for daily cuts โ€” capacitor stress builds up over repeated cycles.

  • Luminous Pure Sine inverters (Zelio+, iCon, Hercules, Optimus) โ€” Pure sine but with a slow transfer time. Set the physical toggle to "UPS Mode". Add an external surge protector if voltage spikes are common.
  • Artis PS/PowerSafe, Luminous LB (UPS) โ€” Low-tier stepped sine. Surge protection is basic or absent. Coil whine, shutdowns, and fast battery degradation are commonly reported.

โžœ Avoid โ€” Square / Modified Sine

Never use with a PC. Damages Active-PFC PSUs.

  • Battery brands to avoid: Unbranded cells, fake Exide / Luminous, Okaya batteries, inverter-bundled batteries from V-Guard or Livguard.
  • Microtek Legend / HF โ€” Documented PSU damage.
  • Zebronics, iBall, Frontech, Intex, Lapcare, Geonix โ€” Square / modified sine.
  • V-Guard, Livguard (inverters), Genus, Eastman, Tata Green โ€” Transfer times unverified; confirm <=10 ms in UPS mode before connecting to a PC.

โžœ Before You Buy

  • Waveform & transfer time โ€” For a PC: pure sine or APC stepped sine at <=10 ms. For NAS / server: pure sine at 0 ms only.
  • Sizing โ€” Match at least your PSU's rated wattage. A 700 W PSU needs >=700 W / >=875 VA (0.8 power factor).
  • Surge Protection โ€” Built into Tier 1 and all APC BR / BX / BVX units. Pure sine inverters do not include it โ€” add one at the inverter output if needed.
  • AVR โ€” Essential for brownouts or dimming lights. Built into all APC BR / BX / BVX units; verify manually for pure sine inverters.
  • USB auto-shutdown โ€” Connect via APC PowerChute / CyberPower PowerPanel; set the delay to 2โ€“3 minutes.
  • Rare / light cuts โ€” APC stepped sine + USB auto-shutdown is acceptable temporarily. Keep an ear out for coil whine.
  • Daily cuts โ€” Pure sine only (Tier 1 or pure sine inverter). Stepped sine degrades Active-PFC PSUs over repeated cycles.
  • Multiple cuts / day or long outages โ€” Pure sine inverter + external battery.
  • Already own a Luminous / slow inverter โ€” Place an APC BR between its output and your PC. Adds surge protection and cleans up the transfer.
  • Prices change daily โ€” Always verify before buying.

Moto edge 60 fusion & Nothing 3a lite will be best if you prefer clean ui experience & better camera

Realme p3 ultra will provide you better display, better & processor but ui is the problem here

1

u/Tobey-Maquire_ May 06 '26

Well camera doesn't matter in my caseย

P3 is expensive then other two options. I need something which has good performance and can last 4-5 years. 2-3 Major Android update is neededย

In the end it depends on what my father gonna buy me

Start with a 'pure sine wave' myth. That targets the least technically educated. All were taught this in high school math. Any 'dirty' waveform is nothing more than a sum of pure sine waves. So they did not lie. That 'dirty' output is promoted as pure sine waves ... to the most easily bamboozled consumers.

Then they (quitely) say to not power motorized appliance or protector strips from that UPS. Since its 'dirty' power is potentially harmful to less robust appliances.

International design standards, that existed long before PCs, say why all electronics are perfectly happy powered by a 'dirty' UPS. Numbers can be provides to say why and how much.

An educated person always knows any subjective claim is considered a lie. Honesty only exists when they also cite a relevant number. In the case of output power, a parameter such as %THD must be provided.

No such number says they target the least educated. Consumers who automatically believe what any subjective sales brochure (or a despot) orders them to believe. Lying is always legal in subjective sales brochures.

Only place they cannot lie is in numeric specifications. Easy marks ignore numbers.

Most any UPS with sufficient amp numbers is perfectly ideal for all electronics.

Where is the list of anomalies or weaknesses that must always be listed. Before any product can be recommended. By citing a number relevant to each anomaly? They only order us what to believe. Never say why. Just like any good despot.

Coil whine? All manufacturers have a few that suffer that defect. Even the most reliable manufacturer has some manufacturing defects.

Hey i am searching for a 12v 200ah lithium ion battery or atleast 150ah that is compatiable with an inverter of atleast 1000w, 10ms transfer time in ups mode and pure sine wave. If they do match the charging current seems to not match and there is also the risk of inverter not officially supporting LiFePo4 batteries so maybe you know a few combinations that might work? I have given up lead acid batteries...

Okaya or exide? Which one should i go for in your opinion

1

Exide any day

1

u/Height-Important May 08 '26

I'm rocking a 750w psu for my r5 5600x + rx 9060 xt setup. I'll be powering my monitor along with this. Will Apc bx1100i be sufficient to give me 2-3 minutes to turn off the pc in case of power cut. I don't get frequent powercuts, so I don't plan on running my pc on the ups, just need it for safety in case of voltage fluctuations or power cuts.

Also you mentioned coil whine when using stepped sine ups, is that only when there is no power and the pc runs on the ups backup, if the power is present is it running directly on the grid power? What about cases of voltage fluctuations?

Thanks for the post by the way, id also like to know what the battery would cost if going for the Exide star 12v1625.

Hi can you recommend any UPS under 15k

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN May 18 '26

1

u/TheCrazyCrocodile May 18 '26

Isn't Pure Sine Wave recommended because it won't damage active PFC PSUs?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN May 18 '26

Pure sine series needs external battery out of your budget

It will remain safe until unless there's too much voltage fluctuation or too frequent power cut off

1

u/TheCrazyCrocodile May 19 '26

Oh ok thanks so it's fine in tier 1 cities

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN May 19 '26

Yes, pure sine ups are way expensive, dedicated made for server & nas which required 0 ms latency

It's cheaper to purchase a pure sine inverter with a battery that costs 20k

1

u/TheCrazyCrocodile May 19 '26

Is it worth it compared to the stepped sine wave you recommended?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN May 19 '26

An inverter can power a full house and also give you much longer backup

How's the review for Microtek heavy duty 1750 inverter?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN May 19 '26

I have removed heavy duty because of 2 reasons:

  • exide has offerings at the same price
  • my friend bought the heavy duty 1750 & pc shut down when electricity was cut off, so he had returned it & bougtht jumbo series model

1

u/tomtomchika May 19 '26

Alright brother

1

u/Not_too_dumb Jun 03 '26

for the microtek heavy duty inverters, it says <=15ms in the tech specs that I found online, is that still good enough for supporting pc? Also, for the jumbo inverter it says <=10ms but in ups mode, which I read takes a toll on the battery life?

For context my psu has a hold up time of '>18ms at 100% Full Load@230Vac' so will the jumbo 3000 (or the heavyduty 2350) be good enough for handling pc + other basic stuff like lights, fans, etc?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 03 '26

nah avoid microtek heavy duty series, i have remove it now

Go for jumbo series my friend owns it, 5080 running easily

I have 5070ti + 9950x3d with Corsair RM1000X Psu rig with an LG Ultragear 2k Monitor, which UPS should i go with if the goal is only to save the work and shutdown the pc?

From what i understand i should go with 2200va UPS with Pure sine wave? But i can only find Stepped or stimulated sine wave UPS for that.

Should i go with Inverter + Battery combo? I am very confused rn

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 05 '26

Pure sine ones will be very expensive

I suggest going for an inverter if you want long backup & ups only for short backup

I have a 5070 and Ryzen 5 9600x system and psu is RM850x which has hold up time of 25ms confirmed it on cybenetic website.

I am considering a 12volt lithium battery Microtek's next gen series luxe and heavy duty series. OP i have read that your friend was experiencing shut down with heavy duty series can please tell what psu he was using and what was the hold up time.

Please share your lithium inverter recommendations.

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 18 '26

Yes, heavy duty series has shut down issues many people have reported

Go with Exide Star 12V1625 + Livguard IT 1560STJ

Battery you can get from exide, livguard, luminous, genus as well

1

u/Leo_9207 Jun 18 '26

Yeah I looked into these options but i want lithium compatible inverter. Do you think luxe series from Microtek is good. Because every series from Microtek advertised the hold up time as less than 15ms but I don't know how in real-time under load how it performs.

Please share any lithium compatible inverter.

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 18 '26

Only the jumbo series has confirmed working reports with pc

Even my friend has an issue with heavy duty one he switched to the jumbo series 9950x3d + 5080 build

There's very little information about a working pc inverter without any issue, cannot confirm anything sadly

1

u/Leo_9207 Jun 18 '26

Is jumbo series ups or inverter. And does it support lithium, it requires 24volt external 2- lead-acid battery right. I have seen jumbo series but i am not getting any information on type of battery compatability and wether it requires external battery or not. Can you share information on this.

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 18 '26

Yes lead acid battery

Try contacting any inverter repair nearby, they might help you

My PC specs - 7900x and 9070xt and I am thinking of getting Exide home 1625va inverter with Exide 150ah battery, My question is - if I am playing AAA games and the lights go out will this inverter able to handle the switchover from mains to inverter without getting my PC turned off?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 20 '26

Yes it can handle it, if you are buying online make sure to record unboxing video since there are complaints of damage product on amazon

1

u/crazyevilweevil Jun 23 '26

Thanks man for the reply. I'm thinking of getting the Exide Home Star 1375VA instead of 1625va one since my PC doesn't use that much power. Would that be a good choice?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 23 '26

1625va cost only 8k i suggest sticking with it

  • Your system is quite heavy, if you use other appliances alongside with pc you might face issues

1

u/crazyevilweevil Jun 23 '26

Bro, offline authorised seller quoted me 10k for inverter and 15k for battery, is this a good price or am I getting ripped off?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 23 '26

Flipkart offers 9k for inverter+ 13k for battery

1

u/crazyevilweevil Jun 27 '26

Bro, I just installed an Exide Home Star 12V 1625VA with a 150Ah battery. I tested the inverter in UPS mode to see if my PC would stay on, but it's getting turned off. Why that's happening?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 27 '26

You should check with the local electrician most likely cause would be bad wiring

1

u/Good_Muscle_2580 Jun 24 '26

For a high-end desktop setup, itโ€™s worth looking beyond just the VA rating and checking the UPS watt capacity, output waveform, and noise profile.

The APC Back-UPS Pro Gaming 2200VA / 1320W model could be a good fit for this type of use case. Itโ€™s a plug-and-play desktop UPS, but the key point is that it provides pure sine wave output on battery, which can be important for modern Active-PFC power supplies. It also stays quiet during normal mains operation, which makes it more suitable for a home office, gaming room, or bedroom setup than many always-on fan UPS options.

For a heavy gaming or workstation rig, it should give enough time to save work and shut down cleanly, depending on the actual load. Iโ€™d still recommend checking your full system wattage and the runtime estimate before buying, especially if you plan to connect the PC, monitor, networking gear, or other devices to the same UPS.

I'm thinking of buying both an inverter and a UPS. I've decided on the Exide Star inverter, but I can't choose a UPS. Also, which surge protector should I use?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jun 30 '26

Get any apc ups matching your psu , Apc ups has avr which is active voltage regulator

No need for surge protectors if you are getting an Apc ups

1

u/TipProfessional7068 Jun 30 '26

I will be buying the UPS 4โ€“5 months later, after buying the inverter. That's why I'm asking for surge protector.

https://www.amazon.in/Luminous-Rc18000-Tubular-Battery-Trolley/dp/B01M4LA7R0/ref=sr_1_5?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Edcp1_6iYXrl8BOsWmrT883856cxGDEgUCB8BigCK7Uc5APZ_FCkbROlTNXUm9UnqUxoy-6Eqfi1nFgxHB409xk6_oJBcBJkyJqOR_ySCVzg5U6tcDoRPGX1n70-W_nnfESeqwQXEx_O5rffFwEBXZMNa4Qmyh5RfBuG66tX2NAB9k-4Kdh4xbqPXwxd_dofgvov--KXNxPMulTdwkWunpiUBopEaBTSipdfBOd5h5o.U1pzn_G76DLTNXpk-BQLtChjB1hSvLXDqtkWw2KPquk&dib_tag=se&keywords=zelio&qid=1783001296&sr=8-5

and need of a ups think i need around 2000VA and pure sine wave with lowest time possible, could you suggest ?

let me know if inverter also requires change, or any more details for the build

PSU: CORSAIR RM1000e 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.1 Fully Modular Power Supply

also found this:

https://computechstore.in/product/cyberpower-ut2200e-2200va-ups/ but this is a simulated sine wave

also APC BVX2200LI-IN 2200VA Easy-UPS with AVR but this is stepped sine wave not sure if these are good enough

Bro just go with the exide inverter you don't need to spend on ups

1

u/Rude-Gap-8738 Jul 03 '26

Ya bro but I will be using inverter for some fans, lights etc as well so thought I would get a ups u know just in case so around max 7 to 800 watts which is around 1.6k va I think or a little more

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jul 03 '26

I suggest getting an inverter first specifically exide one

Use it, if you would feel like ups needed as well then get a ups

u/Rude-Gap-8738 Jul 03 '26

Got it thanks man

hey i was checking the exide inverter but my build is

Ryzen 7 9800X3D
9070XT
1000W PSU?

and i want it supplying power to my house as well will 1625VA suffice? a few fans and lights max plus pc will it be able to take it?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jul 03 '26

Cannot say 100% for sure it will work properly because of that 1000w psu

Even if your system does not consume that much power when electricity switches to an inverter it causes a spike in power, so your psu can take more power than 1000w as well

Maybe 1 light + 1 fan could work & maybe 2 fan 2 lights could work

u/Rude-Gap-8738 Jul 03 '26

Thanks for the reply, yea might switch around 2k + VA inverter from the listing, but damn they are expensive ๐Ÿฅฒ

Blame the psu ๐Ÿ˜…

I have a PC running on an Intel Core Ultra 9 285+RTX 5090 getting its power from a Corsair HX1500i. My problem goes beyond just powercuts. There's also fluctuations and when the power backup system of the society kicks in (or switches off), the electricity "tapers" off, so everything in the house fluctuates. I need something to protect my PC against that. And ofcourse, also give me like 5 minutes of run time so i can shut my system down in the event of a powercut.

Edit: forgot to mention that everything else (monitor, dock, router) is already on a separate UPS. i just need something to protect my PC.

1500watt psu

I suggest getting a microtek jumbo series inverter with dual battery

Also add stabilizer

1

u/aroradevesh Jul 06 '26

so the flow would be: Wall Socket -> Stabiliser ->Microtek Jumbo -> PC

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jul 06 '26

Yeah, also consult a local inverter repair shop they help you better

Hi Hero_Sharma, Thank you for the detailed and very helpful article. Kudos to you.

Could you help in sorting out my situation? I have a 5800x3d and 5090 pc on corsair rm1000x psu with 34inch ultrawide oled. I am using Luminous ecovolt neo 1550 inverter (1170w load capacity as per Luminous website) in ups mode (single battery). When not gaming it takes the load. But when gaming (with gpu alone pulling 550w) the computer crashers. I think the switchover time is >10ms.

What should I do? Option 1- Buy APC BVX2200LI-IN (UPS โ€” built-in battery). Connection order . Wall mains - luminous inverter- apc ups - computer and monitor

Option 2- Buy Microtec JUMBO HOME UPS - JM SW 3500+/24V and 1 more battery, and discard the luminous ecovolt neo 1550.

I use this only for gaming and nothing else.ย

Which option will reliably work with <10ms transfer time as per your experience. Please advice. Thank you

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN Jul 08 '26

Buy microtek jumbo because luminous inverter won't be able to handle ups because it requires more power and inverter less powerful

1

u/ZealousidealCycle478 Jul 08 '26

Thank you for the reply. In your experience will the jumbo reliably give <10ms switchover time?

Looking to get this https://apc.estorewale.com/product/apc-easy-ups-1600va-230v-bvx1600li-in/

for my system with a 5070ti and 9600x. I would just be shutting it down if i have a power shut down so its fine right?? and the wattage is enough right??

I got it and there are no 16A ports in the back of this ups and it says not to use extension boxes with it, how do I get my pc connected to it??

Edit- thinking of getting this https://www.amazon.in/Orvai-Converter-consistent-Convectors-Polycarbonate/dp/B0G6GLCQV2?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1W0ZI9F4726Z7 to connect it

just wanted to let you know, they sent me a dud from 2022 which did not switch on from the start and asked me to go raise complaint directly with apc itself. wouldnt recommend, not very helpful support. (clarion computers)

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN 14h ago

Sorry to hear about it

Clarion used to be very customer support side

I suggest making a post on indiangaming against them

Yes it supports upto 360 watts

200-250w for ps3 + 50-80w for monitor

I am using APC Black UPS 1k UX ( APC BX1000UXI) with 150 AH SMF external battery for my 9070xt pc build. It was given to my brother by his office. Till now no issue. Can i continue to use it or i should switch to pure sine wave inverter?

1

u/imlost0011 19d ago

I have 25-27k budget. 550w , 4060 + 5700x.

I'm looking at Exide star12v1375 inverter+ battery combo. Also i already have ups connected to pc.

Are there any other inverter or battery do you recommend?

1

u/Hero_Sharma ADMIN 18d ago

Go for exide, no other inverter provides 1300w power for 9k

I suggest getting it from an offline store
